Harassing Phone Calls

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA -- I have received numerous calls from 24 Hour Fitness gym for the past 2 weeks. I received 9 calls (5 within 2 days) just in the 1st week after missing my $20 monthly dues. I have asked the collection company to remove my phone number from their call list and I expressed my frustration and the feeling of being harassed over $20. IT'S 20 dollars?! Are you kidding me?

They continued to call even after I had asked them not to call me. For the second time, I requested 24 Hour Fitness collections not to call me. They still are calling me at least once a day. So, now for the 3rd time, I have asked them not to call me. We will see if their harassment continues. This is ridiculous and poor business practice. Based on 24 HOURS FITNESS's relentless harassment, I will be taking my business elsewhere.

Terrible Customer Service

CALIFORNIA -- The employees at the Member Service department at 18004326348 have NO customer service skills at all. They do not understand English, very rude, do not listen, do not give time for customers to explain the situation and refused to get their supervisor on the phone as requested by the customer.

My family of six that I pay $189.00 a month for have been members of 24hr fitness for five years now. We just moved here in California within the last three months and been trying to change our address and billing methods since but it seems like NO ONE from the member service department could do RIGHT. It is now 2012 and they still have all our OLD info. Today was my fifth call and because of their POOR customer service, my family and I are cancelling our memberships!!!

Finger Print Scan

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA -- I went to 24 Hour Fitness today and have not been in several months, to my surprise I was told the card is no longer necessary, due to the new system. They ask me to enter a 10 digit code like my telephone number and then ask me to have my index finger scanned in their system. I ask why they needed a scan of my finger, I refused to do so and did not give my number. I was told I had to bring two forms of ID with my picture in order to enter the club.

This is such an evasion of privacy and can't believe they are allowed to get away with this policy. I hope someone brings a lawsuit against them and I hope to be part of a class action suit. My membership is up in Oct of 2011 and I will not re-join.

Bad Policy & Poor Customer Service
By -

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA -- I had been a member of this club for about 8 years. I came in today to request a refund of my pre-paid Kid's Club childcare. The unused portion remained as my kids had outgrown it, and amounted to about $35. The manager said they don't issue refunds, period. Nevermind they didn't provide the services I paid for. They're keeping my money. That's their company policy.

In November 2010, I requested and received a 3 month hold on my membership when I knew I would not be using it. The corporate customer service told me it would automatically reactivate in 90 days. On this same visit to ask about the childcare fees, they told me my membership is now permanently canceled at the 90 day mark when they tried to reach me using an old phone number and didn't have a current credit card number to bill. If I want to re-join the gym, the monthly fees are now 75% more than my original membership rate. The manager would not make an exception. The kicker from the manager, "Can I help you with anything else?"

This is a club that was never very good. The bathroom is moldy, shower tiles and towel hooks missing, no paper towels provided. The TV's in the gym are locked to channel changing, the background music doesn't suit the age group of the members, the air conditioning and fans only sometimes work, the personal trainers and those in charge of guest membership push their services by shaming you. The main front desk girl is condescending and uncaring. And any complaints to the local or corporate office about any of this have no effect. If you're looking for a good gym, understand that the policies of 24 Hour Fitness take precedence over pleasing their customers.

Are you kidding me? WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!
By -

I called at 3:00 in the afternoon on a Monday and couldn't get anyone who spoke English? When I asked for a supervisor I was told ALL supervisors were busy with other customers. I told the girl that I am not reinstating my membership until I speak to one, and the problem had been fixed. She then told me that her supervisor would call me within 24 hours then read back my "phone number" - which was not my phone number. She then took down my number and I had her read it back to me - she got none of the digits correct. After failing this basic task 3 times I told her I will just wait until one is available, I had time to wait.

I waited over an hour and 30 minutes, which she checked back to see if I was still waiting every 20 minutes. Finally on the last time she checked to see if I was still waiting, she sighed and said "FINE!" two minutes later I was transferred to a "supervisor". Not even the "supervisor" spoke enough English to effectively communicate. Ridiculous! Needless to say I did not go through and reinstate my membership...

Do Not Give Up Fingerprints To 24 Hour Fitness - Fight
By -

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS -- BEWARE! WARNING! DO NOT GIVE YOUR FINGERPRINTS TO 24 HOUR FITNESS. Remember Hitler and the Nazis? That is how they started the Holocaust. They slowly but surely started taking peoples human rights away... many very trivial at first. WHY ARE WE SO WILLING TO GIVE UP OUR HUMAN RIGHTS??? SO WILLY NILLY. Just to make 24 hour's job easier or easier for us to get into a gym??? DOES THIS MAKE SENSE??? Isn't 24 Hour Fitness just a gym membership... is there that much fraud going on there???

Why are they collecting fingerprints? Are there a lot of criminals that go to 24 Hour Fitness??? What's next, full body scans, strip searches, DNA samples, retinal scans??? I was denied access to a 24 Hour Fitness in the Woodlands, TX because I was not willing to give up my fingerprints and even though they verified my identity.

24 hr fitness and homosexuals
By -

I have been thinking about buying a membership at the 24 in my area. I was searching for information and reviews on this 24. It appears that this 24 hr is more of a place for homosexuals to commit sexual acts in the showers and locker room. I have a family and would never put my own son in a position of walking in the men's locker room and upon homosexuals in the act of sex. I will either seek a membership at another location, which is further away from my home or look elsewhere for a gym membership. This is just not right and if this 24 is aware of these activities, they are just as much to blame and they also are going to lose members!

Contract Cancellation Scam
By -

I recently cancelled my membership (2-7), and was shocked to see a charge on my credit card 3 weeks (2-25) after cancellation. I had the membership for 6 months, and when I signed the contract, I paid 2 months (60) days membership in advance, and every month afterwards I paid 1 month's membership, so I was never prepaid for less than 30 days.

So, I called and asked why I was charged and this was the response I received. "Your contract states you will give notice 30 days before your contract expires, and you were paid through February 25, so the payment applied on February 25 is valid through March 25, and the initial payment at contract signing will then cover you through April 25." So, basically, they will apply the initial payment to whatever dates they see fit and then fill in the gaps with new required payments. In order for me to cancel on February 7, I had to pay through April 25, 2 months and 19 days, way longer than 30 days.

What's Wrong With Doing What's Right!
By -

PLANO, TEXAS -- Once again, I've wasted more of my time because 24 Hour Fitness can't seem to do the right thing. Just like other reviewers, I cancelled my membership a few months ago, but 24 Hour seems to have attached themselves to my bank account and they don't want to let go. I heard every excuse this morning, including they have no record of my canceling, and I must've called the wrong number. I had very similar issues when I canceled my husband's membership a few years ago. Bottom line, notify your bank, though it may cost you a fee if you've been on auto pay.

P. S. The club wasn't that great. The only towel dispenser on my end of the locker room was in the process of being fixed about 75% of the time during my 5 year stint. I almost offered to buy them a new one! Also, they had to set out more than a few buckets to catch the water that was leaking in when it rained. Very sad considering this location is in an affluent community.

Unauthorized Withdrawals
By -

CALIFORNIA -- I cancelled my membership in March 2008. After traveling for work for 3 months, I finally sit down to review my statements to find that withdrawals for my account for the membership were still being made from March until June. I called again, and they stated that it was cancelled and gave me a confirmation code. Today, I checked my account and saw that they were withdrawing money from my account - again. I called, was placed on hold for 39 minutes and was told that my account was only frozen for six months, not cancelled. I demanded to be cancelled (again) and that they not withdraw money for my account. They said that it was automatic and could not stop it.

I informed my bank that they were not authorized to make withdraws from my account. Hopefully, I can recover the money and finally be done with them. Beware of 24 Hour Fitness!
