The AARP Is an Insurance Agency Disguised as a Nonprofit Organization

The AARP makes out like it endorses insurance products because they offer good value to their members. In fact the AARP is an insurance agency and earns commissions on every insurance policy it sells. It uses its nonprofit status to shield its earnings from federal taxation and then funnels all this money into electing left wing politicians and lobbying for ultra-liberal legislation.

People who believe that the AARP is some kind of a watchdog for senior citizens are just deceiving themselves. Recently, the AARP became as enthusiastic supporter of Obama Care even though Obama Care will rob the Medicare Trust Fund to give free health care for people who never paid into the system.

The fact that Obama Care guarantees that Medicare will go broke doesn't bother the AARP in the least. All they care about is furthering the agenda of the left wing of the Democratic Party. After all they stood by and did nothing as Congress raided the Social Security system using Social Security payments to fund massive government welfare programs. The AARP has been ignoring this problem for decades now. The Social Security system has a 100 Trillion dollar non-funded liability that even the federal government is unable to pay off.

The fact is the AARP really doesn't care about seniors at all. Why else would they design the insurance products they sell to their members to maximize their own commissions to the extent that they only provide mediocre value to their members? If you have any doubts about this just run a Google search for complaints on any product that the AARP sells. What you will find is pages and pages of complaints from seniors who have been ripped off by the AARP.

Suckers Old Folks Into Bad Insurance Deals

SCHENECTADY, NEW YORK -- AARP is a marketing agency for -- among others -- UnitedHealthcare, which sells Medicare advantage plans to old folks like me. UnitedHealthcare, in turn, uses this as bait for other -- non-AARP -- insurance for areas where they do not choose to offer the more complete AARP "approved" programs.

Availability and coverage vary from county to county, and AARP takes no responsibility for assuring that the products it markets for UHC will actually be delivered. I had such a policy; I moved. The policy was no longer applicable. AARP offered no other plan; UHC supposedly switched me to another one. But it didn't happen, and I can no longer get medications and services I need.

Hartford Auto Insurance

Hartford Insurance, bad experience. Bought an insurance policy for a 2010 sedan on 12/2014. Drive strictly for pleasure about 6500 miles per year. First year renewal 20% increase; second year renewal 40% increase. Had no claims or traffic violations and drove same low miles each year. Hartford's explanation, repair cost have gone up. This is in spite of a close to zero inflation economy. When I went to the dealer for routine preventative maintenance throughout this period, my costs were consistently the same, no inflationary spiral. AARP offers zero help.

NEW JERSEY -- I joined AARP thinking it would be a benefit. Wrong! AARP sold my information and now my cell phone gets slammed with sales calls from around the world. I tried to talk to one of the solicitors to get my number removed from their list and was treated very rudely by someone who acted like an immature moron. Thanks AARP - with friends like you who needs enemies?

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO -- I have a major complaint about the AARP roadside assistance. I paid for my tow and was to be reimbursed. My plan says under 100 miles. The tow was 40 miles. I paid $198 to the AARP representative on the phone. I was only reimbursed $120. I called and the person I spoke with said that is all I will get back. I am very disappointed in this service and have asked to cancel. I do not recommend this service at all.

WASHINTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA -- For those of you who have a membership with AARP be careful if you paid your membership fee using a credit card for that year. They will automatically renew it the following year without you knowing, even though you didn't sign up for automatic renewal. Check your credit card statement.

Sold an Incorrect Policy That Is Costing Me a Lot of Money

NEW JERSEY -- Avoid the AARP UHC Rx plans at all costs. When transferring states we were sold an inferior plan when we requested our same plan be transferred. Since they enroll you you are committed. It is now costing a huge deduction we never had and doesn't cover our drugs properly. It now can't be changed until January so I will not be filling any of my prescriptions until we are able to get the plan we had and that we requested. They took our money and delivered a substandard product. Avoid them.
