I had a good experience...
Posted by Pleasedwivory on 10/06/2008
COMMERCE, GEORGIA -- I went last Friday to Affordable Dentures in Commerce, GA with my mother to have a major dental overhaul. She and I have both suffered with dental issues due to lack of dental benefits and flat out neglect. So we decided to get something done about it. We went into this situation having done our research. We knew it was an all day affair, first come first serve, and that we would be one of many having the same exact thing done. So needless to say we went in with an understanding mind...and we really didn't know exactly what to expect, but hoped for the best. We were treated with respect and dignity. The staff worked diligently to get our entire process complete. We had x-rays, mold fitting of our mouth before extractions, MANY extractions (me-10, my mom-8), and dentures made same day. I really walked away from this feeling as though I was taken care of. Thankfully we have had no problem with our dentures thus far, and I feel confident that if we did, we could easily go back and be taken care of once again.

I would certainly recommend that anyone in our same situation visit Affordable Dentures in Commerce, GA. We were very satisfied with our care, and our product.

Good luck!

There are still some good doctors around

CARTERSVILLE, GEORGIA -- I am writing to compliment dr. Adedyin and her wonderful staff of the Affordable Dentures in cartersville, Ga. I have read so much reviews about Affordable Dentures that I was skeptical about going there but my boss (the mayor in my city0 said he had a good experience so I decided to try. He told me to request the lady doctor. I did have to get there at 7:30 am and there was a lot of people there, so you must be patient. The lady at the front, was exceptionally nice, I was nervous, so I had lots of questions and she did not get mad. when I was called back, xray was taken and this young black girl came in, ( I thought she must have just been out of high school) but she is the DOCTOR! she was VERY sweet, and patient, she advised me not to pull all my bottom teeth but to get a partial. when I came back after lunch, she numb me and pulled my teeth- I didn't even know she had pulled them all. My dentist always sent me to a surgeon because he says my teeth are hard to numb and have to pull. I can't believe this small lady got the teeth pout in about 10 mins, all 22 teeth! she was so gentle and talking to me to calm me down throuh out. then my temp denture was placed- looked really good. I was crying and my wife cried to. this was such a good experience for my family. I start a new job in 2 weeks and my self confidence is back. her staff even called me the next day to check on me. no doctor or dentist has ever done that before. try the cartersville office and if you are lucky to see dr adedyin, I'm sure you will not regret it- I didn't

Very nice review. I'm glad you got through it with such ease thanks to Dr. Adedyin.

Good luck with the new job!

Here's The Rub About "Affordable Dentures"
Posted by TheCanadianDenturist on 10/24/2008
I have been periodically checking into this forum to see what sort of feedback people are relaying about the concept of one-day "affordable" dentures, and the service they receive from such a practice.
From what I have read, it's not at all good.

First of all let me tell you about what qualifies me as one who can advise about said topic.
I am a registered denturist in Canada, and have been authorized to do so by the College of Denturists in my province.

I have been in private practice for just over fifteen years, and I have other members of my immediate family in this same trade.

Here in Canada, and in some American states Denturists are a "direct to the public" resource for people who need our services.

We specialize in the fabricating and maintenance of denture prosthesis for the general public.
In other words, no dentist referral is needed.

You can walk in right off the street into a denturist practice/lab and have one made from start to finish with additional adjustments included after the service. You work with the builder of your new dentures directly.

In most Dentist's offices, if a Dentist is to make you a set of dentures, he would have to take the impressions and send them to a dental lab who in turn would have to make the dentures without seeing the person who was to wear them. Not very personalized an experience is it? You can see how making dentures in this way leads to a LOT of issues.

Don't get me wrong, there are a LOT of really fantastic dentists out there who are very skilled and well trained at what they do. However the art of making a set of "good" dentures requires a SEPARATE set of technical knowledge from that of the Dentist.
A dentist is still a VERY important part of your denture treatment, the extraction of any teeth and the care and management of your remaining teeth/supporting tissues still require the skill of a good dentist.
Here in Canada Denturists consider your treatment a "team effort" involving our skills and the Dentist's.

When making a personalized set of dentures, there are NO shortcuts. Proper construction means taking the time to do it right in every step.
INCLUDING the processing of the denture itself.
A proper curing time for a heat cured denture is approximately 4 to 9 hours. From what I have read, these "quickie" labs use what is called a Pour n' cure type resin. It's a cheaper, softer, more porous resin which is weaker and isn't nearly as good as the heat cure resin.

Furthermore, the most important part of your treatment is the period AFTER you get your dentures. Adjustments are always needed, and in most denturist practices are included in your treatment.

Just remember that you really do get what you pay for. There are no "quick" fixes, and there are no shortcuts.

Stay Away!

LAKELAN, FLORIDA -- I went to Affordable Dentures in Lakeland, Florida and have been very dissatisfied with them. I had to have an upper denture made after 7 extractions. The fit has never been proper on the immediate denture and even after adjustments have never been right. I know the gums heal and change but still never had a good fit with soft or hard relines. Then I went for my final permanent denture. The first wax try-in made me look like a horse. The second one did not have a good bite. The third one had teeth sawed in a straight line across and totally unacceptable and the bite still wrong. None of them EVER had a good midline either. I told the dentist they looked like crap. Well, he was insulted and refused to finish my permanent denture and made me go to the Tampa office. I'm a tough cookie, but this dentist was extremely rude and impatient and never took time to do things right and to my satisfaction and had me in tears several times. The trip to the Tampa office was quite a distance, but I finally have an upper denture that fits and looks good!

I wrote to Affordabe Denture headquarters and nobody ever contacted me. I would never, ever recommend anyone to go to this Lakeland office!

I had my last 6 teeth removed last Friday. The dentist I went to wanted to fit me with immediate dentures but I told her "No" because I found out that HER office uses "Affordable Dentures" too & as the "Middleman" she charges an extra $400. I was told by "A. D." that for an extra $100 they'll give me "Glamour white" teeth & for an additional $100 I can bring in a picture of the kind of look I want my teeth to have. Still $200 less than my dentist's office. After reading these reviews- I find that if I do go to them- it would be best if I'm the first one there, have my cell phone with the # to the local sheriff's dept. handy & that I bring a small tape recorder or video camera so anything said by either of us (doctor or me) that may be considered mean, condesending or rude can be taken to small claims court later.(if need be) But a friend of my hubby went to the Lakeland, FL one & because he opted for the most expensive set & WAITED TWO WHOLE MONTHS before being fitted for their "temporary denture". He says he's had no problems at all.

Ripped Off By Affordable Dentures West Palm
Posted by Ripped.Off on 06/17/2009
WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA -- Went in for consult and exam. Was talked into purchasing the New Denture Wearers Package. This consisted of a full set of temporary dentures and several months later fitting and dispensing of permanent dentures.

The Temporary dentures never fit, despite having to go back to the office and wait for hours to be seen and refitted, only to return and receive dentures that did not fit any better at all, after the time and aggravation of returning for adjustments.

After only a week or so of trying to wear the temps, I decided to just wait a few months for the fitting of the permanent dentures.

Upon returning six months later, as advised, I was fitted, if you can call it that, and had to wait several days for the supposedly 'premium' dentures to be made.

Then, you are called to come in for a final set of impressions and fitting.

Upon insertion of the full set of dentures, I immediately noted and stated that the dentures did not fit well, and looked terrible.

I was told to wait a wek and come back in for yet more adjustments.

And, BTW, I paid these crooks up front...about 1400 dollars...they have my cash, and I have absolutely nothing of any value to me...the dentures they fitted and sent me home with are terrible in both fit and looks.

When you complain, they give you a lot of BS, and in addition one particular dental tech, I don't know if she is even licensed, is absolutely a lying, obnoxious young lady. Very obnoxious and not helpful at all. And totally unprofessional, as is most of the staff at this business. They are in it just to make money off of people with no regard for the finished product, a very poor quality medical dental device which they are very bad at fitting and creating.

I am going to go back and ask for a refund, and if they do not comply, I intend to report the dentist and this business to the State Dental Board / Board of Health, the State Attorney Generals Office and the BBB.

Stay away from this place. They are dis-honest, unprofessional and a total rip-off.

Ok, let's take a step back...NEVER accept temporary anything while waiting over 6 months for your regular dentures. It doesn't take that long. This is a hustle or scam plain and simple and I'm sorry you fell for it. I would suggest filing a complaint, checking to see if they have the appropriate credentials, sounds like they aren't even licensed...but just a guess...and I hope you have insurance so you can get the proper dental care.

Since I took 2 patients with HIV to have full dentures fitted I learned a little along the way.

Usually patients who require tooth removal prior to getting dentures get temporary plates for about a year or so, due to gum swelling and shrinkage over the course of several months. Then they are fitted for their permanent dentures.

The temp dentures can be fitted and worn the day the teeth are pulled even and in fact both patients that I took wore them home!

So, while its not a scam, you need to let them fit and adjust your new teeth to your face and mouth. They can file them and correct them to fit better. Don't just give up. Let these people finish their job.

There can be additional circumstances however both my parents had their teeth pulled and were fitted for dentures prior to leaving the dentist's office. They had to go back a week later to make sure the dentures were fitted correctly but had their properly fitted dentures by week 2. I've had several friends follow the same process. Not doubting you in anyway Boki, but in my experience I've seen many folks taken care of in a couple of weeks...not months or years. Again, circumstances can definitely play a big role in the process.

Affordable Dentures offers 3 different kinds of dentures..they use an immediate economy model when they extract the teeth and from there, patients have upgrade options.

They can do dentures in a day. Its when you upgrade that the time factor comes into play.

The way it was explained to me was that you want to let the tissues in your mouth settle before getting fitted for the upgraded versions, as they are more expensive.

From their website:

When you have had extractions, remember that the healing process takes time…often at least six months, and sometimes more. Each person’s physical health and oral conditions are unique, and the healing process will vary from patient to patient.

The New Denture Wearer Package is available for first time denture wearers and offers a significant savings to patients who have had extractions and require an immediate denture. For one package payment you will receive an immediate denture, a final denture and all the other services needed to help you adjust to wearing dentures for the first time. Our staff will be glad to explain the details of the package and the related savings that you will enjoy.

---

I just don't want to give the impression that this OP is being scammed. I am hoping, that for her/him, its just a matter of some fine tuning to make them happier with their new teeth.

don't know much about dentures myself but.... i do know that sometimes it's best to get some word-of-mouth about a dentist ... especially for important stuff like that.

my parents moved to a new city and found a new dentist and ... hated him.

they talked to a few others and found out about another one who had a good reputation. they went to him and ended up having some of the best dental care they've ever had

well... it was a long time ago now... i must have been 17 or 18 I think, so almost 20 years.

i just remember getting sick a lot the first day because of the general anesthesia. and i was being light with the pain pills because i read on the bottle that they could be habit forming. (ended up giving the leftovers back to the pharmacist even)

i did finish the pizza tho... i just had to nibble it to death :)

Good Idea Gone Bad
Posted by Archie7 on 01/25/2009
WACO, TEXAS -- There is no such thing as one day dental service. You have two different dentists here who compare and redo what the other did wrong. So, two long trips, in the beginning.

The adjustments to the dentures are another nightmare. You will meet a lady who has no idea what you're talking about and GOUGES your denture a half inch away from where you were pointing. She needs to be a door greeter...keep tools away from her! BEWARE! Do not let her touch your new dentures at all!

This clinic is happy to get your money, and turn out the product. They expect you to be happy with it and just go away...even if you have concerns. Go back and let them GOUGE your new dentures. I'm not a happy camper.

Dr. P. is a good Gouger, too, as he flat topped my upper denture when it only needed to be smoothed a little. He also said not to worry about the "dimple" on the outside of my upper denture, where SHE filed off the excess acrylic blob they left on it. How nice. It's very visible.

People in business, especially this type of business, should be more caring and professional! If you get dentures here, YOU SHOULD GO ELSEWHERE FOR ADJUSTMENTS. They have no clue on how to do adjustments. Keep that in mind.

No complaints
Posted by Seefron62 on 03/05/2012
CHESTER, VIRGINIA -- On February 15th I had thirty teeth pulled and an immediate denture placed. I researched Affordable Dentures thoroughly before taking them my business. The Chester, VA office has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureu and no complaints within the past year.
I was very anxous and fearful - thirty is a lot of teeth. I made a lot of phone calls to the office and every time my questions were adressed with patience.

The dentists treated me respectfully. They had gentle hands, my extractions were painless after all the lidocaine took effect. The injections were painful - they are injections after all. But the fear that pulling my teeth was going to be awful was quickly put aside.

My mouth was filled with cotton and I was immediately fit with a temporary full set of dentures. I was prescribed appropriate pain control and a prophylactic antibiotic.

I consider my course so far as better than expected. No dry socket, pain controlled, no infection. I use adhesive on my dentures as instructed and am slowly learning to speak more clearly and eat soft foods. My dentures look just like the teeth I lost and I am going in for my first adjustment on the 21st day after the extractions. The office was clean and the staff wore appropriate gloves and masks. They washed their hands upon entering my area and cleaned up soil with the proper solution. Cleanliness and infection control are key to my returning for care. I've been an RN for 27 years.

Up to this point I don't have any complaints. Nor do I expect any based on my previous experience.

Dr Iris At Affordable Dentures, Columbus Ohio
Posted by Freddunkle on 07/13/2010
COLUMBUS, OHIO -- Ok, first off I was TERRIFIED to visit affordable dentures based on some of the reviews I read on here. This is the main reason I am posting this. I need to have several teeth pulled and dentures placed. I went to a couple other dentists, one said I would need bone work first, the other said I could get the dentures without an issue, but charged WAY TOO MUCH. so I tried affordable dentures. I read reviews on here of the old dentist at this location and almost decided not to even give it a shot. Well, I'm glad I decided to go!! Dr Iris was great. not only was she very understanding of me being a big chicken, but she RELAXED ME!! can you believe that, relaxed at the dentist??? Well, I will admit its an all day process, but you do not need to be in the office all day. I started out at 745, was seen by 810ish, and was out of the office before 9. I did have to come back at noon. took the medication I was given when I got there at noon, was seen by 130, and was on my way home, with new dentures, by 3ish. Dr Iris was very gentle, yet firm. she really made me feel like she was concerned more about my being nervous then she was about my money. I am praising her a bit I know, but this is more for the people that are researching affordable dentures to decide if they should give them a try. I won't say my visit was PLEASANT, I am a chicken, but it was no where near the nightmare I expected!! I do recommend going to Dr Iris. As far as affordable dentures, so far I have no problems other then the initial discomfort getting used to them. And yes, you will notice that they push out your top gum a bit, but it is not as bad as people make it sound on here. NONE of my friends have noticed it at all, only I have. OHHH I also noticed a complaint about the receptionist. well, I personally think she is great.

She not only talked to me in detail about what to expect the night before, but she too was very understanding about me being scared to come in. Over all, I would rate my experience an 8. ok, might be more, but I'm not giving a 10 to ANYONE that pulled all my teeth until I can eat steak again!! LOL
Basically, give them a chance people.

Bad Dentures and Questionable Proper Extractions
Posted by Bfritts1947 on 05/23/2012
CARTERSVILLE, GEORGIA -- On Jan. 14, 2012, I went Affordable Dentures in Cartersville, Ga to have tooth extractions as well a root tip extractions (where teeth had broken off at the gumline). I was on a morphine pump for back pain for over 10 yrs which destroyed my teeth. When all was extracted, there was no stitching of the extracted areas, as I was expecting. A temporary upper plate was immediately put in and was so bad, that a second one had to be made. I have gone in several times for adjustments to no avail.

I cannot imagine anything more uncomfortable being in my mouth. They may as well have put in a ball of plastic which probably would be more comfortable. 4 months later, I am still gagging and cannot chew. It looks like I will be on a soft diet forever at this point. I tolerate them each day as long as I can, but by about 4:00 pm, they have to come out. It's awful, and I am supposed to have the premium package. Don't think so! I know many, many people with upper plates and have had no problems at all. My Father had them for years and never had a problem. But compared to his, these things I have in my mouth are the thickest ones I have ever seen. I went here because I have no dental insurance and am on disability. I went to other dentists and was quoted prices of $7,000-$10,000 which I could not do. I thought that if I went with their premium package, things would be much better. What a surprise! It's bad, bad, bad!

Doesn't sound like this place knows what they are doing. If you are not able to get them to fix the problems satisfactorily you might want to try Dixieland Dental in Midland City just outside of Dothan Al. They are economical much more so than regular dentists where I live. My husband had several extractions done there and a full upper denture plate. From his experiences so far I would say they have good dentists that know what they are doing and his denture fits well and feels good.

Do Not Use Affordable Dentures
Posted by TamiS on 08/09/2011
SUN CITY, ARIZONA -- In August of 2010 I went to the Tempe Affordable Dentures location to obtain consultation and to get an upper denture. We live in Northern Arizona and that was the closest and was 5 hours south. He did an extraction on 8 teeth and gave me a temporary denture.

After days of severe pain and swelling, I developed a fever of 102 and called the emergency number he had given me on my sheet of instructions. It took hours to hear back from him and then he just called in an antibiotic and suggested it may be dry socket.

After 10 days on the antibiotic I was no better at all. I developed sores inside my entire mouth and the gums were so painful I could still only consume liquids weeks after the extractions. I drove back down and told him I couldn’t stand the pain anymore. At that point, he examined me and informed me the sutures had not dissolved but had grown up into my gums. He removed them and advised me it should heal fine.

I went back down after the gum swelling had subsided and he did a soft reline (even though the package I purchased called for a regular reline). I went back home with the denture fitting better. However, by the beginning of 2011 it was again quite large due to more swelling subsiding and I called and found out that the Tempe branch location was closed. No word from Affordable Dentures as to why, but I was told my files were transferred to the Sun City, AZ location. I went there and was given a reline and told that I was ready for my permanents. In the beginning of March I went in for a permanent denture.

Now, almost a year after my initial visit with Dr. Acosta, I have some protrusions on my gums which lead me to believe there may be other foreign things in my gums. I’m not sure if it’s additional sutures or pieces of teeth or what is causing it, but want to get it taken care of and do not believe I should be financially responsible for an exam/x-ray. I feel it is Dr. Acosta’s responsibility. And NOW, not even 6 months after receiving my permanent denture a tooth fell out. And I purchased the "exact duplicate" pair they advertise and it is NOT a duplicate. It looks like wax teeth. DO NOT fall for this business' advertising. It has been—and is—a continuing nightmare.

I'm sure sorry to hear of all the problems you seem to be experiencing. The most important aspect to keep in mind is getting better, so you can live a happy life. I would consider the expense of x-rays or extra work you or your insurance providers cost until such work proves otherwise. If it later shows that something was done improper, then you would be entitled to seek restitution from the original surgeon.

Best of luck and stay well.

What a terrible experience. I think you should get a second opinion. You may have grounds for a malpractice suit.

Yes, please get a second opinion from an oral surgeon.

Sorry you've had such a miserable experience, but it's surgery when you have teeth extracted and you cannot foresee what may happen, as to how your body responds and heals.

Very sorry to hear of your pain. However, you only get a soft reline until your gums are healed, because the gums change every month during that process, and the soft relines make it easy to keep up with that. Hard relines you get every year or two when you have the permanent dentures. I'm about 7 months out from first getting my temp denture, and I get a soft reline done about every 6 weeks for a good fit.
