Affordable Sunroom in IL stole our money
Posted by on
LAKE VILLA, ILLINOIS -- We hired Affordable Sunroom in Lake Villa, Illinois about 3 years ago to provide a $30,000 Sunroom. Affordable Sunroom required $15,000 up front, which we paid. Affordable Sunroom was to provide a sunroom 3-6 months later. Well, I spoke with them every month and they started saying it would take a little longer, blah blah blah. Next thing I know, it is a year later and still no sunroom or even a promised start date. What!? We demanded our money back. Affordable Sunroom said they would pay us back over a year. I said what!!!? I called my lawyer and had some paperwork drafted up. Affordable Sunroom paid back $11,000 over the year, but still owes us $4,000 now over 3 years later. I strongly urge anyone considering using this company to reconsider. Affordable Sunroom has now officially cost us years of grief and $4,000 for absolutely nothing. Feel free to call me, Brad, at 630-400-6037 for more info. Spare yourself the agony!

Brad

Brad Goldstein, This sounds like a nightmare and I wonder why your lawyer couldn't get them in court and sue for time and pain not to mention fraud?

Sorry about your experience and hope you come out on top. Keep us posted

I agree with Lid, but I think now that your amount is under $5000 it might be worthwhile to look into small claims (for which you might not need a lawyer). Good luck.

Sounds like they were on the brink of going on our business when you signed up with them since they wanted so much in advance for a job that wasn't going to start for months.

Since I'm a local in IL... thanks for the warning...

Wow - replies? I am shocked. If I can help one person avoid getting screwed the way we did than I will be pleased. Again, beware of Affordable Sunroom in Villa Park, IL. Affordable Sunroom did sign a Promissory Note agreeing to pay us back about a year ago. I guess I should be grateful that I got back anything at all. My smart lawyer made it clear that in reality had they paid me back nothing, there was very little - nothing I could do. He said that suing for less than $50,000 was a losing battle as lawyers would consume at least 1/2 of that, if it was ever even received. Nonetheless, I have been robbed of $4,000. I do intend to file a small claims suit on Monday, so I will keep this community updated as to what happens with that. In the mean time, if you need a sunroom, you may want to consider alternatives to Affordable Sunroom - http://www.affordablesunroom.com.

Well it appears that Affordable Sunroom is still ripping off victims. I was just called by another victim who has paid a deposit and seen nothing in 8 months. He claims he will be filing a lawsuit soon. There must be many other Affordable Sunroom victims as well. It seems to me this operation needs to be shut down. Though their bankruptcy won't help me get my money back, it will hopefully prevent others from being robbed by this criminal.

Some good sites to check out before you sign a contract with a company is www.ripoffreport.com (which I personally like) and/or www.angieslist.com (I think you need to pay for membership to see the list of accepted contractors). Beyond that, homeowners need to understand some of the trade practices of home improvement companies so they can avoid costly mistakes. www.consumerstrategies.org offers an online seminar which educates homeowners about sales tactics, negotiations, and contract traps. Good info for any homeowner because a lot of contracts are signed as a result of free estimates and not some pre-planned intention.
