Proof of Loss Form...Get a Public Adjuster
By -

ASBURY PARK, NEW JERSEY -- September 29 2008 had a fire at my house; Deluxe Policy for 8 years; as I submitted all paperwork Allstate requested of me such as copy of deed etc. The only thing left was the Proof of Loss Form; as I have never filed a claim I was not familiar w/ form; I asked Allstate for help; Allstate emailed that Adjuster "D" would help me; I called her & left message; Adjuster never contacted me; I asked many Allstate people for help; but in the end received none.

So Allstate then rejects my claim for... that's right Proof of Loss Form. Status now.. my house sits in an indefinite state of limbo & unlivable & I'm expected to battle Allstate's Lawyer. Now I realize that Allstate was never going to help me, even though I believed I would get help, just one of their tricks to try to get out of paying on my claim. Moral of this story: Get a Public Adjuster. They are familiar w/ the tricks & deceit. My claim continues on... and to end on a positive note... I have Allstate's tricks in writing... and there's more than one.

Making a Claim
By -

PHILADELPHIA -- Avoid Allstate. I went to Allstate because it offered a good deal, and I naively believed their ads. They are fine -- as long as you don't make a claim. We had roof tiles blown off by a storm. When I went to Allstate they refused to pay, saying that it was normal wear and tear, despite evidence of the storm (it was in the papers!).

The roofing contractor did say that the roof was old and age may have been a contributing factor. The claims rep told me that the contractor said that the tile loss was due to normal wear and tear; the contractor says he did not say that, but that the storm was the immediate cause. In any case, if you have an old house, expect Allstate to deny any claim, saying it must be wear and tear. I'm cancelling the policy asap!

Denied Leak Damage
By -

About a year ago, I noticed that my kitchen tiles were cracking. Last month, the wood beams in my basement ceiling started leaking. The plumber finally found the problem, when he slid out my stove and saw the wall behind the stove and sink was crumbling at the wood was rotted, as well as the wood under the tile floor. A pinhole leak in a hot water pipe in a wall, over time put a leak in the drainpipe. Allstate says none of this is covered because any damage over time is excluded. Rotted wood is not covered.

So I have to tear out my kitchen and rip up and repair the subfloor and lay new tile. A cabinet was also damaged and is buckled. I was told this is a standard NYS policy. There is nothing deluxe about my Allstate Deluxe Policy. Read the fine print in your policy. Only sudden damage is covered.

Agent Lied About Home Owners Insurance Coverage
By -

CINCINNATI, OHIO -- When I had signed up for my car insurance with Allstate a year or so ago, my agent talked me into going with Allstate for my home owners insurance as well. One of the selling points she used was that if I was ever visiting my friends in another city, and someone broke into my car and took my shoes or anything, they (Allstate) would replace them! I thought this sounded great.

So a few months went by, and then someone broke into my car... I filed the police report, listing the items missing. I think it came to around $255 dollars worth of stuff stolen. I call my agent the next day and come to find out, they won't replace any of my belongings because they said my policy had a $250 deductible! At no time did my agent ever mention this deductible when she sold me the policy, and yes, maybe it is my fault for not reading the 40 page document they sent me regarding the details of my insurance, but for her to lie about the coverage she was selling me was just not professional... I would recommend reading the fine print next time you sign up with Allstate.

Solicitation Misrepresentation

DENVER, COLORADO -- I received a solicitation letter in the mail inviting me to contact them for a quote. The letter was addressed to me at my current address and contained accurate information about my home. The letter also had a breakdown of coverages that was close to matching my current coverage.

I spoke to the sale manager and she emailed me a quote for coverage. It was over 300% higher than the original letter I received and $600.00/year higher than my current coverage. When I called her back, she was unable to explain why the quote was 300% higher than the original letter I received. I feel that this company is engaging in a program of misrepresentation by sending unrealistic solicitations.

Don't Get Groped by the Good Hands of Allstate

MIDDLETOWN, CONNECTICUT -- Due to living in CT and experiencing 1) the snowiest winter in record in 2011; 2) a hurricane in August; and 3) a freak blizzard in Oct (in 2011) my insurance premiums went up by 50% due to weather/storm related claims. Allstate says it can't do anything, and my snide arrogant agent said that I had to stay with Allstate because no other insurance company would insure my house. Then he said that I should never have filed the claims to begin with.

What, he could not tell me that when I called the office to file the claims? END RESULT IS THAT I WILL BE GROPED BY THE GOOD HANDS OF ALLSTATE FOR THE NEXT 2 YEARS. BUY INSURANCE FROM ANOTHER COMPANY!!

How To Get Help On A Homeowner's Insurance Claim?
StarEmpty StarEmpty StarEmpty StarEmpty StarBy -

CALIFORNIA -- We just recently had a leak in our kitchen - turns out it was a busted water pipe behind the kitchen cabinet wall. I understand that the insurance company does not cover faulty plumbing but will cover damage caused by the water leak. We had to turn water off to our house, otherwise we would be living in a river. We can't use our kitchen at all, nor can we take a shower, wash up, or flush the toilet. Allstate offered to reimburse us for our meals and mileage (as we live 45 miles to the closest establishment).

The right thing for Allstate to do is put us up in a hotel since our home is considered "non-usable," especially with 2 disabled adults - driving 45 miles each way, three times per day, is really not feasible. First, I'd like to know why Allstate has refused to put us up in a hotel room? I understand about not paying to fix the plumbing, but because of structural repair and lack of use in the home, this should be covered by insurance. Why would they pay for our meals and mileage but not a hotel room? Isn't that the same concept?

Second, I do not believe that the adjuster has any idea what he is talking about (and our agent sure has no clue), so who should I contact in Allstate to solve this problem? In the meanwhile, I am sitting in a home with a kitchen that is partially demolished and have no access to water. Do I have a good case to take to an attorney?

Commercials Very Misleading

ST PAUL, MINNESOTA -- I see the commercials and just start seeing as to how misleading they are about "accident forgiveness" and deductible going down each year. What they don't tell you is that these "perks" do not apply if you have their so called "value plan". Now I know how they were able to come in under my current company in premium pricing. I had a claim with my old company just before changing. Which kicked up my homeowners premium up about $100 (which I was never notified about) and now I have to wait 3 years before I start checking into different companies. I really should have stayed with my old company.

Policy

Allstate inspected my house last month. I received a letter dated August 25, 2011 that my insurance policy would be cancelled Oct 5, 2011, because I don't have porch rails. I had 30 days to respond. I received another letter dated August 30, 2011, they have cancelled the policy. Could you please tell me what happen to the 30 days? But they are still drafting money out of my account.

I call customer service two different times and was put on hold for 30 minutes then I was disconnected. The second time when I called by I put on hold for 45 minutes and disconnected. Who are these people, good hands my **. You're in good hands as long as they get your money. Have a problem, see how fast they slap you in the face with their good hands.

Homeowners Insurance

We filed a claim, last month. Someone broke into our building in the yard and took quite a lot of tools. Even stole a cast iron bathtub. We turned in the police report, receipts. The adjuster was never in the office. Calls not returned. So we complained. We got another person now. She called today and asked, if we had ever been married before, last 3 years of income tax papers, are we late on any bills.

Sign and mail back paper for her to check our credit report. What is the amount of our house payment, are our cars paid for. I guess I just want to know who the hell does she think she is. I have paid my insurance on time. So I think if it comes down to it they should make a FAIR SETTLEMENT, not ask me for all of this because they did not ask me this when I started with them.
