American Laser Center was the worst experience of my life!!!
Posted by Unhappily ripped off on 04/01/2010
TUCSON, ARIZONA -- I had problems with this company from the moment I first started going there. Besides the fact that I always sat in the waiting room for at least 20-30 minutes before I get seen. The managers were terrible. One told me that sometimes burns can happen and there is nothing they can do about. The turnover rate is so high that I never had the same person doing my treatments. One manager told me that my legs were too tan to do the treatments so they would suspend my account until my legs were less tan. Well now my "so called" warranty is over and they owe me at least 3 treatments on my legs and they will not perform them. I was told that supposedly the manager that told me that was wrong (of course she is no longer working there!) I still have hair on my legs and bikini area. It was a total waste of money! I know other people who have gone to other treatment places and have had great results. However, since the techs at American do not know what they are doing half the time they were not using the correct settings on me. One manager said no sun exposure 2 weeks before and now I was turned away because apparently no sun exposure for a month. I live in Arizona it makes it a little hard to wear pants in 100 degree weather. They are extremely unprofessional. Have no clue what is going on. The managers are as incompetent as the techs. I have seen no hair reduction at all on my upper legs because my hair is too thin. Of course they didn't tell me that when they were taking my money. BEWARE!!! This place is horrible and a total scam. Imagine going there for 2 years, still having hair on my legs and bikini spending well over $5000 and being treated like crap by unprofessional staff and managers. The worse part is I have a burn on my bikini area and the only response I have gotten is that can happen. My husband went somewhere else after I started at American. They performed different test to ensure his safety. After 6 treatments he has seen much better reduction than I have!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! AMERICAN LASER CENTER IS A COMPLETE RIP OFF AND MORE THAN LIKELY YOU WILL HAVE A NEW, UNTRAINED TECH PERFORMING LASER ON YOUR BODY. THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER GREAT OPTIONS IN TUCSON!!!

I really wouldn't like to have these folks using a laser on my body.
Posted by Soaring Consumer on 2010-04-03:
I suggest suing them in civil court for a full refund for failure to properly render services and refusal to provide services paid for, plus punitive damages for the pain and injuries resulting from their unprofessionalism.
Posted by Anonymous on 2010-04-03:
Aside from unprofessional attitudes, they are correct. Some people do get burned and there is nothing they can do to prevent it. Not everyone can have laser hair removal and it does not work for everyone no matter how many times you go. The fact that your husband had good results means his body is receptive to the treatment.

Shady business practices, No refund
Posted by Devonian on 03/09/2010
ORLANDO, FLORIDA -- I've been undergoing treatment for laser hair removal for 3 YEARS and have had 0% success. In March of 2007 I was told I'd "won" a $300 gift certificate for laser hair removal from American Laser Center. I went to the free consultation, and was offered almost 50% off the normal price for a treatment on the bikini area. Seemed too good to be true, and now I know that it was. The package I purchased was for 6 treatments and I was told that even though I'm strawberry blond, it would work-- guaranteed. Beyond that, I was told, if hair did grow back at any time in the following 2 years after my 6th treatment I could return for further treatment at no cost. But now 3 years later, I have one appointment left in my 2 year guarantee, and I've continued to be treated this entire time. I've seen 0% reduction!!! When I asked for a refund I was told it wasn't company policy (even though that's not specified in ANY of the paperwork I signed), but instead I could continue to be treated for $50/per 30 minute session. I feel completely helpless, and I'm totally out over $1k. I've asked to speak to the Regional Manager, but was told that she would give me the same information. DO NOT PURCHASE SERVICES FROM THIS COMPANY AT ANY LOCATION!

It doesn't work for every body and the location can do nothing about that. Now, does your guarantee happen to be in writing? Unless it is, you are pretty much stuck.

American Laser Center

BARRINGTON/FOX RIVER GROVE -- I have visited several ALC's and different spas that specialize in skin care. The treatments I have received at the center in Barrington were amazing The girls are all very professional and have a vast knowledge of the different types of treatments that I receive. I have been dealing with skin issues all of my life. Not only do I see a difference when I look in the mirror but people comment on my skin all the time.

I highly recommend this center.

Of course they tell you your skin looks great, you are forking over a boatload of cash for them to say that to you. Do you think you'll come in and they'll say 'wow, last week's treatments didn't do a thing for your zits'?
Posted by Anonymous on 2010-02-02:
*LOL* (BA) Ken!
Posted by Roxxx on 2010-02-03:
Hey Popcornken... Girls use mirrors and are very conscious of their skin. I really don't think you should comment on this issue unless you have been to the center. Maybe a trip there would do you some good. And BTW just to give you a heads up on skin treatment, it is definitely not just for "zits". Maybe stick to your popcorn issues.
Posted by Anonymous on 2010-02-03:
Roxx, I am a guy and I am very conscious of my facial skin and have long eyelashes as well (natural) but I don't go to places like this.
I take it that you are getting some type of cosmetic work done, correct?
Posted by Anonymous on 2010-02-03:
Roxxx, that was just my polite (or not so) way of saying that we all recognize this post as a shill, and don't take it seriously. You probably do more harm than good by doing this because now you have made the usiness look sleazy.

Zz doesn't need treatments, he has inner beauty.
Posted by Roxxx on 2010-02-03:
Ken, I don't know what you mean by a shill. But, nevertheless. You cannot bash a company if you haven't used it. I have been fighting skin problems my entire life. The service at ALC is fantastic and so is the staff. I have had treatments at other centers including dermatologists, cosmetology specialists, long before estheticians came into place. The only thing I was commenting on is how you basically said these people lied to the girl who posted because she had a boatload of cash. I know first hand that they do a wonderful job and take the time to discuss any situation or concerns a client might have.
Posted by dmoss on 2010-02-03:
Posted by Roxxx on 2010-02-03:
Zz no they don't do cosmetic work at ALC. They do skin rejuvenation, skin care treatments as in microdermabrasion, different treatments with laser light, laser hair removal, and so on. And I have seen plenty of men there.
Posted by Anonymous on 2010-02-03:
Guys go there? For what? To get a few pock marks rubbed off? Hair removal?
Just how do they rejuvenate skin anyway?
Posted by Roxxx on 2010-02-03:
Zz Men go there for a number of reasons, back and arm hair removal is big on the list. Men have skin issues also. Microdermabrasion gently exfoliates skin and helps to reverse sun-damaged skin and to remove or lessen scars and dark spots on the skin. It also deep cleans the skin and helps prevent breakouts or what ever. I am by no means an expert on this although I have been doing it for years. Like I posted to Ken I just didn't think it was fair for him to bash a compliment that someone posted about this company, by just reading it and never experiencing the product. I have referred many clients to ALC and have never heard anything negative. And one of them was a male...

Thanks for the info, Roxxx. (VH)
I'm good for now but I do have an ex g/f that is in dire need of the hair removal services!
Posted by madconsumer on 2010-02-03:
laser hair removal has very very limited effect. other than this, any type of treatment they do on you, can be done with chemicals and costs hundreds less.
Posted by Roxxx on 2010-02-03:
Zz Hey thanks for the lightheartedness of your post... whew this was getting to me!!
Posted by Anonymous on 2010-02-03:
Anytime, Roxxx. That's what I am here for.
MadC, what kind of chemical would one use to rid themselves of unwanted hair?
Products like "Nair?" Everyone can't use those products and the hair does grow back.
Posted by Roxxx on 2010-02-03:
I have had some chemical peals and they are very invasive. The microderm is a lighter less invasive treatment that basically does the same thing without the healing time. These are just my feelings on the procedures, I am not trying to sell a clinic or a product. I have extremely sensitive skin and all I was trying to do was post a compliment about a clinic that lives up to my expectations.
Posted by madconsumer on 2010-02-03:
a chemical peel is invassive!! what do you expect by removing a couple skin layers???????? if a laser peel is not invassive, then it is not worth it.

there are far to many bad reviews and experiences with laser work than good reviews.
Posted by madconsumer on 2010-02-03:
Z, the review does not state this is about laser hair removal. there are NO chemicals to remove hair permanatly.
Posted by Anonymous on 2010-02-03:
How do they do it, MadC? Whatever they do it can't be much fun.
Thank gawd, that I was born beautiful! *j/k*

Dang, what happened to shaving?
Posted by Nohandle on 2010-02-03:
What's going on here folks? Chemical peel, go to your dermatologist for that. I wouldn't trust the procedure to any other place. With a chemical peel to fully understand, stick your face in a pot of boiling water for about 3 to 5 seconds and you will thoroughly enjoy the experience. Trust me on that one. No one is standing around and cutting up.
Posted by Roxxx on 2010-02-03:
madconsumer, I was talking about microdermabrasion compared to a chemical peel. I have had both and neither can even be compared to laser skin resurfacing! When using hot light skin resurfacing the condition is similar to burns, the new cool light technology is much different and does not produce blistering.
Nohandle. I have used up to 60% glycolic for chemical peels and it is nothing near what you describe.
Posted by dmoss on 2010-02-04:
Actually laser hair removal is great, it last a long long time depending on the person (hair type) and this is not the outcome of other kinds of treatments. Not buying razors for 2 years or more, for some way longer then that- You spend much more shaving everyday or using other chemicals! For as many times as you go in even to get waxed -if your good with numbers figure it out!

American Laser Center Unprofessional
Posted by MandyGD on 01/06/2010
In October 2009, I visited an American Laser Center located in Greenwood/Indianapolis, Indiana. I have since then been receiving bills for procedures I never fully committed to. Since my first visit, I have never been back to that office, nor have I been treated there for any procedure stating on my bills.

On January 5, 2010, I received a phone call from the financial bank stating these late fees have been reported, affecting my credit. I explained the situation, and was informed to contact American Laser customer service. After talking to a supervisor there, I was directed to dispute these charges, considering I have never been treated, and the transaction was false.

I have been working in an office for four years, collaborating with banks that will finance patient’s payments. No charge, what so ever, should be accounted for until the patient has started a procedure.

Thus being said, the bills I am receiving will not be paid. American Laser Center should have never posted the transaction as a credit, therefore, needs to be refunded to the bank in which it has been leant from. I’ve contacted the office previously, and in return have received no call back. This whole situation seems unreal to me. How can somebody be billed and expected to pay money for a procedure that has or will never be done?

Americal Laser Center is very unprofessional.

American Laser Centers. "Are you Kidding me, why so many bad reviews?"
Posted by Jamilla on 12/04/2009
SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA -- I read a review on here about negotiating prices. My sister and I visited the same American Laser Center at different times. We do not share the same last name, so there was no way for the nurse or manager to distinguish this during our consultations. I had been wanting laser hair removal for 4 years. I waited for years, because where ever I had gone, Laser Hair Removal was costly. My girlfriend who had it done 4 years ago kept telling me that my wax appts and boxes of $16 'pink curved' razors were adding up and the cost was getting expensive. Overtime, I'm wasting more $$ by not getting laser hair reduction. I'm going to shave anyway, I might as well invest in something that will make shaving easier. I shave once a week and MY SISTER shaves ONCE a MONTH! That's less money on waxes and plastic rusty razors.
It got rid of my ingrown hair! I had chunks ingrown hair under my arms and legs. My legs look so much softer and my armpits look pretty. I feel sexier. I'm going to try my bikini next. They had a one time only 60%. I didn't make the cut off time so they gave me $100 + 19.8% off and 2 small mini treatments. Not as good as the 60%, but I still got a deal and in a much better position to invest in something for myself. It was either this or a breast augmentation. Really. Well, my hair reduction is at 75-80% and I'm on my 11th treatment. That's almost 2 yrs of treatments. It's pretty good, because I was VERY hairy. I think I'm going to continue on with my free appts. You get free touchups up to 2 yrs from your start date.

I love this laser center. I used to go to younique, but I never saw any results. Their initial package didn't sound as promising as American Laser Centers. There were a lot of "what if's" when I went into all my appts. I'd rather sign up for everything so that each appt is cheaper. American Laser Centers is like the Costco with safe, well trusted staff. The representative was very helpful.
I asked the representative if this was true. She told me that with every client who seeks laser hair removal, they always feel as though waxing and shaving is cheaper. However, according to her calculations of what I had been spending each month, I was throwing my money down the drain. I told her that I spent about $40/month on waxing and $13-$15 every 2 months on a box of good razors. It ended up coming to $550 a year, for what I was spending on wax treatments and razors. I saw that in 2 years I would be spending about $1100 on waxing and razors, and I would have to continue paying this expense for the rest of my life. I thought, what if I invested $2500 in laser hair removal? It was clear that laser hair removal would save me thousands over time, but does it work? $2500,$200, $30... much of what you get can be paid through payments. There is no interest for a yr. The nurse and manager were honest and experienced. They both told me that with laser hair removal, it is a process to destroy the hair follicle in every cycle or phase. I love my legs and underarms! I can't stop referring people to American Laser Centers. The company gives me $250 for every referral. I got $700. It was mailed as a check that was issued to 'cash'. I cashed it and got CASH!!! This is for real. I questioned this company before because of all the reviews about them. Then I realized how many bad reviews were up about my company. I work for Kaiser and I'm a patient. The people who complain on the internet were probably all the managers and nurses who were terminated. One nurse told me that if the manager is not nice and firm at the same time, they will be let go. I heard that customers try to take advantage of the managers then the business starts to hurt and the manager is to blame. PEOPLE please be fair so that we can continue our treatments. This company makes smart decisions to stay in business. All the managers who I have seen have been fine.

Back to negotiating prices. Wow... huge tangent! My sister had
less hair so she only did her lower legs. She paid $180 for each appt. I did lower legs with patches done on my thighs. I paid $199 per appt. I paid a little extra for the small patches. I would have paid $210 per whole leg appt, but I decided not to. My payments through their monthly no int plan made it really affordable. I pay $36 as my min payment per month.

Avoid American Laser Centers
Posted by ATHA on 11/05/2009
SKOKIE, ILLINOIS -- I went to American Laser Center in Skokie Illinois. I spoke with the manager and she killed me with kindness. Initially, she said because I waited, she gave me a great discount. I went to the center intending to ask about facial hair removal. However, somehow she convinved me to obtain a Microderm, so I got the package of hair removal and microdermbrasion for $1500. I was delighted because according to the manager, the original price was close to $4000 (Off course, only a lie). I'm telling you, the manager that I spoke with was just a two-face. She acts like she's your best friend, but the only thing they care about at this facility is the money that you give them, that's it.

Anyways, when I got the second microdermbrasion, the lady convinced me to buy a "Photo Facial" so again due to my gullibility, I signed up for it and charged an additional $1000 on the credit card plan. However, I came back home and did some research, and I found out that I got ripped off, and indeed I did get ripped off. I went back the next day to cancel it, and they told me they were going to charge me $300 for cancellation fees. Guess, what, they did change me the $300 for canceling my "Photo Facial".

Additionally, right after I got the second treatment for Microdermobraions, I started to flare very badly. I guess it's because I went to Mexico around that time, and I had a bad tan. However, the people didn't warn me about the consequences, and I only got two applicatoins of Microdermbrasion, and my faced is badly damaged now, it's basically full of acne. It's also getting worse day by day. In fact, I will start on Acutene in about three weeks.

The only thing that I asked from American Laser Center is to give me a full refund for "Photo Facial" and not charge me the $300. Of course, that did not happened. I even went to the center and showed how irritated my skin was, but they still did't give a damb. I also gave them my doctor's note, yet they charged the additional $300. They ruined my skin, but I had to pay addionational $300, pretty bad huh!

My package was for $1500, now I have to pay $1800 altogether. I have to say, I don't trust this company at all. They do not care about the well-being of their patients. The company only cares about how much money you give them. It's based upon deception and lie. Even their contract indirectly tells you that you may not get the results that you want.

Please avoid American Laser Center. I can't even exit the situation that I'm in. I'm basically stuck. The only thing that I did is damage my skin. Rememeber, I have to use one of the strongest acne medicine, Acutene, and deal with the side effects because of American Laser. I haven't even gotten an apology from the manager or the customer service center.

If you're ever thinking about doing any simple cosmetic procedures, go to the doctor instead. The doctor may charge more than this company, but you get quality work, and you won't be treated like a number or a contract. At least, the doctor won't deceive you and disappoint you the way this company would. I seriously mean this. I warned all of my friends, and warn anyone who's reading this, American Laser is the worst company that I came across. It has no regard for its cusotmer, none whatsover, the only thing it cares about is the sales and the money that it deceivebly receives from its victims not customer.

It's also shemeful and sad that they carry the label "American" Laser. American businesses do not operate the way this company does. Perhaps Nigerian corporations operate the way American Laser does. This company does not represent America in any shape or form. It does not deserve the title it carries. It's truly conniving and deceptive.

AVOID American Laser!!!

If you're a man I would suggest shaving instead.

From what I read about your issue and the procedure, it is used to remove, in SEVERAL treatments, scarring from severe acne.

It sounds as though you either did not have severe acne, and if not why would you get this procedure? Or if you did, you did not complete the program. From what I read, it is not a quick fix. It takes 4-8 sessions over 2 week intervals, so that means 8-16 weeks for the entire system.

You had 2 sessions. Which probably irritated your acne and left it irritated because you did not complete it.

I am going to read more and come back here.

Just curious, but did you research this at all before you agreed? And please don't blame the center for the fact that you signed up. Convincing or not, you can always say no.

Beware of American Laser Center
Posted by DLH2005 on 09/30/2009
TEXAS -- American Laser Centers charge a $75 cancellation fee & will not waive it under any circumstance. I've been going to American Laser Center (Fort Worth location) for over a year now & have had very little hair loss. My contract states that I can continue to receive treatments for two years after my initial treatments are over. Recently, American Laser Center changed their cancellation policy. It's now $75 to cancel an appointment if you do not call them the day before. They some times give reminder calls, but you can't depend on that as a reminder because it isn't consistent. They seldom have a human answering the phone, so you have to leave a message. And many times, they don't call you back until the following day. It's one of their many ways to gain extra $$ from you. I have almost two years left on my contract, but they will not let me come back until I pay their $75 fee. Beware of American Laser Centers because it's very expensive & you don't get what you pay for.

"Beware of American Laser Centers because it's very expensive & you don't get what you pay for."

Unfortunately, laser hair removal doesn't work for everyone. Just like doing the rogaine doesn't always grow hair back, trying to have your hair removed with laser doesn't always work. Some people are just lucky enough to be able to get their hair removed all at once. Some others, it takes the full time the contract is for. And others, well, it just doesn't work no matter what they do.
Like all places, they probably changed their policy for a reason. Too many people taking advantage of not coming into their appointed time, therefore that time (for them) is wasted.
But, why should they waive the fee... fees are there for a purpose.

Why do you need someone to call and remind you that you made an appointment?
Posted by Nohandle on 2009-09-30:
I'm unfamilar with American Laser Center but do know I receive reminder calls for dental appointments and appointments at another doctor's office. I still jot the appointments down on my calendar at home. $75.00 sounds a bit steep for a non cancelled appointment, even though you tried to cancel it, unless you are a patient who has done this before. Their automated telephone system wasn't working? That should be their problem, not yours.
Posted by SharonLB45 on 2011-10-18:
you are an adult, you are responsible for your treatments. I know when I have to go to the doctors office, if i miss there is a fee. They have to do that because their schedules are full and time is money, right?
