ASHLAND, KENTUCKY -- I would like to add my comment on American Musical Supply - a company I too USED to Love. Here is what happened to me when dealing with them. Keep in mind also I had been a good customer for years. On Apr. 20, 2005 I ordered a custom baseball cap from American Musical Supply priced at $10.95 plus $4.95 shipping and handling. Total was $15.90. I paid with MasterCard bank debit card, gave them my number and they said it would ship immediately.
On Sat. Apr 23 I received a package - very large and heavy. Inside it was a baseball cap and a very expensive keyboard, which I did NOT order. On next business day I told them I did not order the item. They said “no problem. Just send it back,” but I would have to pay for shipping and restocking fees. I said I would not, since I never ordered the item to begin with. The keyboard could sit, until they agreed to pay shipping and other stocking fees etc, I NEVER ORDERED THE ITEM. I Noticed my card was charged the $15.90 - nothing else.
In other calls they have hung up on me in the middle of conversation and are generally rude. They never agreed to pay shipping and I did not hear anything for a while. ON Friday May 13, I received a call from my bank saying I was in overdraft $918.00. Somehow they managed to charge my card $918.00 without my knowledge or approval. I only had $18.00 in my account when this happened. Now my bank has frozen my account and has penalties piling up and I am in a mess with any checks for direct deposit being taken by the bank. I am in danger of being evicted this month because I will have no rent money, for an item I never ordered.
I never gave anyone at American musical supply any permission to charge my card other than the baseball cap. Also 3 days later the original cap I ordered came in another small box - different than the phony order they wrote me up for. I wound up with my cap I ordered plus another cap and keyboard I DID NOT ORDER. My life is now being turned upside down as the fees are piling up daily on my frozen bank account. Incidentally. I found it very strange that my bank (Fifth Third Bank), would put something like this through with only $18.00 in the account, when there had never been more than 500 dollars in the account in the 4 years I had it.
American musical supply had no right to send me items I did NOT order, let alone charging my card just because they had the number on file. This same report is now on file with the Better Business Bureau, which I found when checking on their site, has had other complaints on them over the last 3 years. Also, like mine, some were unresolved. Thanks for listening to My experience with them.
SARATOGA SPRINGS, NEW YORK -- I've done several thousand dollars' worth of business with AMS. After numerous orders there has never been a hitch. They are fast to ship, competitively priced, and have excellent payment options. They are by far my favorite online music gear company. Customer service is also excellent. They even have real time online chat for customer service. I wish more companies were like them. I'm happy to be able to actually rate a company good here. That's a rare thing nowadays it seems.
