No Warning for Rate Expiration

FORT WORTH, TEXAS -- Never received an alert that my plan was ending. I called in after receiving a bill that was twice what it should have been. I will receive another bill that is twice the rate again. I called and tried to resolve it and they wanted to offer me a $50 gift card. Insulting. I would not accept this as help. I will have to pay around $660 for two months of service where I would usually pay around $350. I am on paperless billing and never received a notice on anything except this last bill that alerted me.

At this point, I had already suffered a month at a .20 cent variable rate which is around 3x higher than my rate plan. I have been with them for a LONG time, recommended them to MANY friends, and even had a rental secured with Amigo. I would NO LONGER recommend Amigo to my worst enemy.

Switching Providors

ALVIN, TEXAS -- When I signed up for Amigo Energy I was told it wouldn't be super expensive as I was getting a "special deal" at the local HEB. He said if you switch before 4 months then there would be no early termination fee. After the first month it was too expensive, so I switched providers. When the bill came in there was an early termination fee. They said I wouldn't have had an early termination fee if I had called and told them I was switching before I switched. I never recall being told that. I signed the online contract but I never received it in the mail or email. Very shady business practices. Don't recommend. If you are late 1 day they hit you with late fees on the dot.

Predatory Practices on Rate Changes

PEARLAND, TEXAS -- We had a one year contract and at the end of the year we switched our electricity to another company and we always paid on line and tried to pay our last bill on line but the on line account was shut down. We never received a bill and several months later we received calls from a collection company that we owed a huge amount for our bill and late fees and collection fees.

I immediately called Amigo to get them to send us a bill since we could no longer pay on line and that promised they would send but we never received. I finally got a hold of someone at Amigo and she said that the late fees and collection was out of their hands and I finally got them to email me a bill and looked at it and for the 2 week overlap we were charged a huge increase and of course late fees and collection fees.

FORT WORTH, TEXAS -- Okay so I saw that someone else had the same damn problem as we did.. I got merged over to Amigo in June of 2008 and never got a bill until today and bam $467 and a rate of over 24 cents when I was also told they couldn't add more than 10%. What a bunch of **.. Then I called to ask why my bill was so much and why did it take so long to get it and they tell me to contact my post office. Not only did I get one bill I got two - one from July and the other for Aug.. Then they have the nerve to tell me they emailed me and sent bills.. I'm calling BBB tomorrow morning...

Electricity Rate Increases 226% With Out Notice
By -

HOUSTON, TEXAS -- We engaged a 6 month contract with: Amigo Energy 777 S Post Oak Blvd Suite 700 Houston TX 77056. In the next billing cycle following the 6 month term, without notice our rate was raised from .107 kwh to .2419 kwh. Our bill was raised from $292 to $664 due to the delay it takes to change providers our bill next month will increase from about $300 to $750. I asked for documentation that their costs had increased similarly and nothing was available in writing.

This is pure bait and switch and predatory billing. If you've been victimized too, contact the Texas State Attorney General, the Better Business Bureau and the Public Utility Commission of Texas. We have done so and await their arbitration.

Amigo Energy Ripoff

DALLAS -- This company has raised my electric rate in a predatory manner. My rate was increased by 136.53% in only a few months time, without notice and without warning! My payments were never late (Automatically deducted) and my service or credit did not change during this time. I have requested an explanation from Amigo on several occasions using both telephone and email, however, they never responded. Apparently, this is common practice as there are many identical complaints on public web sites about Amigo Energy.

I believe Amigo Energy has committed a breach of contract and I am the victim of fraud and abusive billing practices. STAY Away from this company at all costs. Also, if you see Mr Javier Antonio Vega in the Houston area or elsewhere, say "Hi" to the POS Amigo CEO, or kudos if you run him over.

Amigo Energy Sucks and Worst Customer Service
By -

AUSTIN, TEXAS -- As many of us that had the misfortune of being transfer from NPC to Amigo; we just got screw big time. Not only they were late in sending statement but also increase the rate to .2419 from .129 (NPC Rate). They charging me of 9 days of service a fee for not exceeding the 500 kwh usage. Let me bend over and just ** me. Their customer service needs an overhaul. It is a joke. You wait for ever and "if you want to leave a message"; it just put you on hold again. Please, please don't use Amigo Energy! Go somewhere else!

Breach of Contract
By -

HOUSTON, TEXAS -- We were forcibly changed to Amigo Energy from NPC as NPC pulled out of Houston residential electrical service. The contract we have states they cannot raise the rate by more than 10% per month. Amigo would not send a bill or give a rate - when we finally cancelled/transferred we got a double month bill - a rate increase from 0.125 to 0.2469 per kwh. 3 days to pay or an additional late fee of $32. This seems extremely bad practice and I have filed complaints with PUC and BBB. Please watch out for this issue - it appears that I am not the only one Amigo Energy is ripping off.

Amigo Energy Has Hidden Costs

If you decide to use this company, please read your contract carefully. Note your billing cycle. I have found their billing to be sporadic at best. I will be paying the $150 to go back to TXU it was so bad.

Amigo Energy = Scum

Amigo Energy = scum! Talked my 80 year old mom into a contract several years ago at 16 cents per kilowatt hour. I did not know of this, but at the time this was about 6 cents higher that anyone else.. AND STILL IS LESS ANYWHERE!!! They took advantage of an old lady. As soon as that contract was over I switched her to another company.
