Terrible- Wrong Parts, Wrong Serial Number Poor Customer Service

CALGARY, ALABAMA -- We bought the Andersen storm door and have had nothing but problems. On initially opening there were missing parts. When we called to get new parts the serial number on our door was labeled incorrectly and they kept insisting that we were wrong about the color of the parts we needed.

After several discussions I finally got them to send the 2 missing parts. I was told they were going to expedite the parts and I would get them in 2 days... They weren't - parts arrived over a week later. We got the door mostly installed only to realize that once again we were missing something! This time it was the drill template. Called them again and asked if they could just email this piece of paper to me but they were adamant they needed to physically send it. Terrible service. Will never by Andersen/Emco products again!

Buyer Beware-Necessary Parts Are Extra $$

DES MOINES, IOWA -- I bought Andersen's retractable screen door for $179, which included a "sill adapter" which turned out to be only 30.5" wide. The sill adapter is necessary to bridge the inch or so gap between the door sill and the screen door base--otherwise, dirt will accumulate in the gap. But the sill adapter provided with the package is 4-5 inches too short. Rather than provide a 36" sill adapter that you can easily cut to the necessary size with a hacksaw, Andersen provides one that's too small for most doors, and they tell you to call Customer Service if you need a bigger one. But the bigger one will cost you another $22.20! What a rip-off.

Retainers for Glass/screen

CLINTON, CONNECTICUT -- Never in my 68 years have I had to work so hard for so long to simply switch out my glass for the screen. The retainers used are just awful. YouTube videos make it look so simple - I had 2 other neighbors trying to figure them out. For the money I spent on this door, I am so disappointed. I will now be heading to the hardware store to find a way to drill holes in this expensive door and put the old style hinges on this door. Ridiculous.

I contacted Home Depot who told me to contact Andersen who told me to contact Home Depot! Then on the 3rd call to Andersen, the help I received was a downloaded manual and a link to watch the same videos I found on my own. No one has said yes to coming back out here and demonstrating this crazy system. I never thought I could go wrong buying anything Andersen.

Door Closer Support Twisted

LYNNFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS -- Had the series 3000 storm door installed by builder. Recently, the door caught a gust of wind and flew open twisting the support that holds the closer. Granted one of my kids did not pull it shut hard enough. The door has no stop which would prevent this from happening. My old storm door that this replaced has a spring and chain which prevented this from happening over the past 25 years.

I was told by customer service they don't make any sort of stop to protect the door from this happening. They recommended I plant a big push behind the door to stop this from happening. As this is not uncommon. I had to pay $18. for a cheap aluminum, part. Not covered by warranty as it was caused by an external force. Maybe I should put a decorative hay bail on my porch to stop this? Can't believe Andersen can't come up with a better solution.

Defective Parts

CENTERVILLE, UTAH -- I bought my storm door in March of 2017. Serial # 0023384885. Within just a few months the seal started to buckle. It has now been six months and the buckling has got to a point that the window will no longer open. I called 9-25-2017 (1-800-933-3626) to initiate repairs. I was told all that could be done is the parts would be replaced and instructions on how to do the repair would be included.

First, how do they know what parts are defective without even seeing the door? Second, I have no idea how to repair the door. Instructions will not give me the expertise needed to do the job. The door is defective and I am responsible to fix the door? Ridiculous! I paid more for the Andersen name thinking it meant quality. My mistake! .

Storm Doors

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS -- I have bought 2 storm doors, one is great... The other didn't work well from the beginning. I made some phone calls, had the installer come out and do some adjustment, nothing seemed to make a difference. The door started falling apart because it didn't work properly. So I called to see what could be done.

First they told me to go to the store I bought the door from. Then the store said to go to Andersen. Finally someone at the store called Andersen and I talked with them. Basically they said it was the installer's fault, they would not replace the door. They would send out replacement parts. The person on the phone bullied me, by saying, "Let me tell you..." in a loud voice. Andersen doesn't stand behind their product and I will never buy another thing from them.

Andersen 3000 Retractable Screen Door

PALM COAST, FLORIDA -- Purchased Andersen 3000 storm door. Upon hanging, noticed top right corner of door panel strip (across top) was a little wider than the rest of the door thus preventing it to shut. Also it had a very sharp rough unfinished end
on it. Had to use a grinder to bring it into tolerance (yes the door was level, square and true).

Also the sweep was all deformed and twisted. Upon install found one of the 2 sweep screws attaching it was already stripped out so I couldn't adjust that side. The worst part of the installation was the screw channel covers; almost impossible to install. A number of years ago I purchased an EMCO 400 door. The door rotted thru in 5 years. No more Andersen for me!

Failure to honor warranty
By -

CALIFORNIA -- Beauty is only skin deep! About 2 years ago, we purchased some beautiful Andersen hardwood flooring. It was professionally installed by the firm which sold us the flooring. After about a year, we started noticing that the (acrylic?) finish at the ends of several pieces of flooring, at random locations throughout our home, was starting to chip and/or peel.

We contacted the dealer and eventually an Andersen representative came out to inspect the flooring. He noted that there was no evidence of damage from water seepage under the wood, and explained that this would be displayed as cupping of the wood which he did not see. This was not surprising, since we had an epoxy floor leveling compound installed on the floor, and a vapor barrier placed above this, by the flooring installers.

The Anderson rep did say that the moisture measurements at some locations were as high as 12%, and that the maximum allowed under the Andersen warranty was 8% humidity. Eventually, we received a letter from Andersen Hardwood Floors stating that the defects were not covered under their warrant because of high humidity. More remarkably, he advised us that we must take exceptional care to keep the floor dry, and pointed out that even when using a spray wood flooring cleaner, we must only dampen a cloth and not spray directly onto the wood.

We find this amazing, considering that for the previous 11 years we lived in a home with comparable Harris-Tarkett wood flooring in the kitchen and all bathrooms, and that the bathroom floors were frequently wet after we exited the shower, and yet there was never any problem with the flooring. In our present home, the defective flooring is in locations that are not generally wet except for possibly water from our shoes when it rains - not too common in southern California.

Regarding the 8% moisture limit referred to by the Andersen rep, online research indicates that a maximum flooring humidity of 8% is not reasonable. We found the following text: "The ideal moisture content for flooring installation can vary from an extreme of 4 to 18 percent, depending on the wood species, the geographic location of the end product and time of year. Most oak flooring, for example, is milled at 6 to 9 percent."

We then sent a letter to Andersen Hardwood Flooring asking them to stand behind their warranty, and their response was an unwavering "no". They did write back that we had the option of paying for a second, independent inspection. However, the "independent" inspection they offered is not really independent, as their letter states "please sign and send back to me within 14 days of the date of this letter, so we can arrange the inspection." Obviously, a second inspection arranged by Andersen Flooring can hardly be considered independent.

This flooring is not inexpensive, and we are very disappointed both in the product defects and more with Anderson Hardwood Flooring's failure to honor their warranty. We will not again consider purchasing a product of Anderson Hardwood Flooring, and pass this information along so that others may avoid the problems we are encountering. If you're looking for good quality hardwood flooring made by a company that stands behind their product, I suggest that you avoid Andersen Hardwood Flooring products.

LANCASTER, PENNSYLVANIA -- I purchased an Andersen Storm door. I wish I had read these reviews first! The door is an absolute rip off, the latch doesn't work (it's less than a week old). The installation was a nightmare and all of the inner parts of the latches are plastic! The cost was not in keeping with the quality. I will NEVER purchase anything by Andersen again!

Did Not Warranty Faulty Storm Door

BERLIN, MARYLAND -- Bought storm door had it professionally installed. The cylinder fell off including the hinges, because of a strong wind. Home Depot said it was covered under warranty. Called Andersen, they said it was not covered, we had to pay for the replacement part. Will never buy Andersen again, why say you have a warranty if you don't?
