TEMPE,AZ -- Apollo Transfer is basically a company that makes its money ripping off drivers. They hire class A drivers and most only last 2 to 3 weeks. The driver pays all expenses to move the truck including fuel and tolls. Most of the trucks are Ryder box trucks so the driver sleeps at night on the floor of a box truck. The first week you work they take out fees so that you make nothing. The second week maybe you make 150 to 250 dollars for seven days. The third week the same or you could drive and you owe them money after expenses. So you quit.
The typical class A driver out there is making 900 to 1,000 a week plus benefits. At Apollo Transfer Company LLC in three weeks you made maybe 300 dollars but normally a driver should be paid 2,700 so they burned you for $2,300 before you quit. They have some work that pays 65 cents a mile, but you pay all fuel, tolls, etc out of that. And that's one way, you have to pay to get yourself back either in your pickup at 15 cents a mile or by Greyhound. Most trips you deadhead as much or more than you drive. They also have tons of work at 26 cents a mile which they don't mention when they hire you. They only pay one way and you deadhead back at your expense.
With this work you drive 20 hours a day and sleep 4 and clear maybe $3 an hour, just enough to buy lunch and dinner. Their paychecks are way off every week in their favor and try calling payroll, nobody ever answers the phone. Ever. They get the work done by running ads nationwide for drivers and having them all quit within a few weeks. Many take one trip and quit. They have 5 or 6 drivers that have been with them for years but they are all either guys with bad driving records or street alcoholics who don't mind sleeping on the floor of a box truck and working for $150 a week.
