Unexpected Cell Phone Overage Charges--I Don't Need This!
By -

Got hit with unexpected $250 overage charge. Again. It happens when I'm in a stressful or very busy time in my life when I have more important things to do than pay attention to my minutes. The charge increase of about a factor of five over normal seems to me a way to harvest money from the statistically small group of folks like me. In addition to this strategy, AT&T also seems to have a policy of being very flexible on an individual basis if people contact them.

They allowed me to change plans and back date the change to the previous month. I'm not satisfied. I don't need this additional stress. These overage charges don't seem ethical to me. AT&T could easily provide an automatic notification when all minutes have been used. This would be full disclosure of this very significant rate increase. So, I've switched to CREDO. They have a spending limit that can be reduced to $100 per month and perhaps other measures. Also I'm happier with the politics of CREDO than that of AT&T, which is one of the largest contributors to the Republican party and which criminally violated the constitution with the warrantless wiretapping.

Unprofessional & Uniformed Customer Service

What a bunch of useless people they have taking calls at AT&T these days! These people have no idea of what is going on. They put you on hold for 10 minutes, come back to let you know they are still working on the problem, then you hold for another 5 or 10. Usually on the phone with them for about an hour. Then you find out they no nothing and can do nothing. No one takes responsibility for mistakes.

You are under contract, and you will pay early termination fees to cancel even though you have no- and I mean no reception in your new home area. I have been calling these people for 2 months explaining that I have moved, my phones no longer work. Three different reps have told me they will send me 2 new Nokia 2600 phones to try to. I am still waiting. So tonight I finally had to terminate early even though I have 2600 rollover minutes left. Now I have to wail till my bill comes on 1-22-09 to cancel. So that's another month I have to pay for no service. The worst company I have ever dealt with!!! Extremely unprofessional. Will never have AT&T service again!!

$1000 phone bill
By -

I'm sure what happened to me happens to many others (out of all the people using ATT), and the corporate VP who set things up so this will happen received a good bonus (another 10 million or so!). Anyway, it is very easy to make international calls on one's cell phone, in my case to Costa Rica. My friend moved to Costa Rica and I ended up talking to her on my cell phone for 500 min in a month. Why did I do a stupid thing like that?

I basically trusted Cingular/ATT to provide comparable rates, and I knew it was costing my friend 30 cents a minute from the ICE (Costa Rican National company). I also knew that the cheapest rates around were about 3 cents a minute (for example, one-suite).

I was shocked to receive the bill and find that Cingular/ATT was charging $2 a minute, about 7 times the Costa Rican rate! Is this a fair price for service, or a corporate strategy (very easy to make the calls, very high rates) to rip off the small fraction of folks who fall into this situation?

Watch out for AT&T and their one sided contract
By -

I had AT&T and just before my one year was up they took back minutes I had in my plan. I disputed the high charges as a result but it didn't make difference. They turned my account to two collections agencies and both showed up on my credit report. I complaint to FTC about this and I was told that AT&T can use two collections agencies and they can both be posted on your credit report even though it was the exact same account. I don't think it's fair that I should be banished twice as a result of AT&T deceiving practice.

I advise everyone to NEVER sign a contract with AT&T or any other cell phone company. If you do you are giving them all the rights and you are also giving up you right to sue, regardless of what they do. You are much better off getting a prepaid cell phone than being enslaved to a company such as AT&T. Note: If you are a company stock holder, an employee of the company or simply a person (sellout) who is paid few bucks to undermine complaints such as this about the corporation, keep your feedback to yourself.

Dropped calls-awful coverage and service
By -

CENTRAL MARYLAND, MARYLAND -- I bought two phones- one for teenager. We seldom could complete calls to each other. We might have been only a few miles apart, and our calls were dropped consistently. We experienced frequent dropped calls with other callers. The bars on our screens indicated poor coverage. The problem worsened after a couple months into the contract. When I complained repeatedly, AT&T said they were not obligated to correct this because I did not inform them of the problem within the initial grace period after signing the contract.

AT&T informed me I would have to pay an early termination fee to discontinue with them. I informed them they were not providing the service! They broke their contract, not me. I had to switch to another wireless service, but AT&T harassed me for the termination fee.

Won't Refund
By -

COLORADO -- AT&T Wireless is the worst company I have ever dealt with for service on a refund. They messed up the name on my account by adding a name above mine when I signed up for it more than two years ago. When I called them to fix it, they moved my cellphone number to a new account and removed the incorrect information that was on the account above my name. Unfortunately they also have kept a credit balance on the old account for over a year! They refuse to refund it or credit to my newer account. The people who answer their customer service phones won't even attempt to help me. I suggest that no one ever use AT&T.

Horrible Service
By -

FULLERTON, CALIFORNIA -- Every time I talk to a rep for a slight tweak of my service I end up with another year on my contract! This last time they sold me on a service that was worse than what I had before -- their GSM has lousy reception and signal strength. I then received a letter that told me the plan I signed up on (after about three hours on the phone and arm twisting from their reps) didn't exist. I had to call to make new arrangements. I tried for weeks, but their system was down every day. I intend to cancel and would like to threaten with a class-action suit for misrepresentation unless they waive the cancellation fee.

Don't Sign Up With AT&T

FAYETTEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA -- Please do not go with AT&T. I was advised my first bill would be $86.00 by the customer service representative when I signed up with AT&T. My first bill was $262.00 and not one person at customer service could tell me why. Now, I cancelled the service with them, my phone was cut off 10/30/2012 and they billed me for November and December. I had 1 line and 450 minutes a month with 3GB data plan paying $120.00 a month. If you can get with a different cellphone carrier please do. I DO NOT RECOMMEND AT&T TO ANYONE.

No Longer Any Service

MELBOURNE BEACH, FLORIDA -- Zip code - 32951 - used to have great service but a few months ago there stopped being any access for myself and anyone in town. No new blockages, no storm damage, nothing! No answers from AT&T but still have to pay for service we're not getting any longer or pay penalty to get out of contract. How in the world is this fair? AT&T gives no answers or explanation. I feel victimized, robbed and held hostage by AT&T.
