NORWALK, CALIFORNIA -- I joined Bally Total Fitness in 2006. It was a nightmare. I had to pay for a year and didn't use most of it because the gym in downtown DC was more on the gay sauna side than everything else. I got tired ... read full review3 Replies - Latest reply on 11/14/2010

I have seen numerous complaints online against this company about how they give members run-around when members request to cancel membership and how they manage to keep charging customers' account. I ... read full review3 Replies - Latest reply on 07/28/2010
PENNHILLS, PENNSYLVANIA -- I am a school teacher and a coach. I have been a member for over 15 years and have witnessed the study decline of services, maintenance and cleanliness. The only time that I can take full advantage of my membership is during the summer. This summer I have been wanting to take a steam in the sauna, however it has been down for over 3 weeks. I will be returning back to work without taking advantage of the one service that I look forward to. Additionally there is a bike that I like to ride. And it was missing a pedal that is very poor service and I can see why more and more members are leaving to join other clubs2 Replies - Latest reply on 07/20/2010Add reply

CALIFORNIA -- This is the worst company to try to deal with. Promises were made about the membership when signing up that are totally untrue. Cancellation was done in writing and still funds were taken out on account. Still not settled and threats have been made to damage credit unless additional payments are made. Very bad company to deal with. Hire an attorney to read and interpret their contract before signing it. 1 Replies - Latest reply on 04/19/2010Add reply
35620 FREMONT BOULEVARD, FREMONT, CA -- There is not a definitive way you can cancel their membership. They do not process cancellation in the gym facility even though they do process enrollment and payments. They do not honor what they say - I called and cancelled the membership and lady I talked to (Karen) said that she made an exception and had cancelled my membership. I also sent a written letter a couple of days later - just to be sure. They have charged my credit card again for another month and when I called today (2 weeks after cancellation), they are denying that my membership was cancelled.

I guess I will have to try certified mail next. But the point is that they have delibrately made the cancellation process so difficult that they can keep charging your credit card as long as they want.
My sincere advise - do not do any business with them and don't be sorry later if you do. They do not deserve to stay in business.
Bally Total Fitness charged me 2 in one month even though according to the contract they allowed to charge only once a month. I had a phone fight with Bally supervisor Julian. He said that it was bank mistake. Can you believe that? I told him that I will take Bally to the court and to department of consumer affairs because Bally appears in bank statement. Bally gave me refund only after I told them that I would press charges against them. 1 Replies - Latest reply on 08/12/2010Add reply

NORTH MIAMI, FLORIDA -- I have been a member of Bally's since November of 1986. I currently work out at the Bally's at Waterways in North Mimi Beach. As is typical with this company, minor issues which can be easily solved at the club level escalate to the point where customers have to take their concerns one or two steps further and either call corporate, typically a waste of time, a some regulatory agency, like the department of health, county code enforcement, etc...

The club is dirty, the people who work there are young and incapable of problem solving, and the manager, Katherine A. is about as useful as tits on a bull. I laugh in their face every time I am approached to invite a friend or family member for a "free" 7 day trial membership. If you are low class, do not care about the environment you spend time in and love to work out with slobs who blow their noses in the sinks, Bally's is for you.
This is the worst company I have dealt with in my entire adult life. They operate sharp business practices and have one of the worst customer service in moderm times. When I signed up, I was never told it's for 3 years. When I moved, the closest Bally center to me was about 21 miles. Yet attempt to cancel was unsuccessful. I kept paying even though I was no longer using their club. I wrote 4 letters with no response. It takes about an hour for someone to come to the phone sometimes when you call. I am still paying 6 months later. Even after a arrived at a settlement, they reneged. They are weird.1 Replies - Latest reply on 03/01/2010Add reply

JAMAICA QUEENS, NEW YORK -- I have been a member since 1994 of Bally's Total Fitness and this is the first time I ever had to complain.

ENCINO, CALIFORNIA -- The Encino, CA Bally Total Fitness club fired it’s entire maintenance staff and now there’s trash everywhere, especially the men’s locker room. At least a dozen lockers have broken or missing doors that no one is repairing. It took three months to fix a blow dryer on the wall. They aren’t replacing worn out floor pads. The paper dispenser in the men’s toilet fell off so now there’s a huge hole in the wall between stalls, so you get to watch the guy next to you take a crap. The place stinks like a sewer and here’s an amazing thing: the staff can’t change channels on the monitors on weekends because they’re not allowed access to the remote control.
I’m getting out of this dive, this slimepit at the end of this years contract.
Misled & Paying for it!
