Poor Customer Service After Mistake Made by Sale Associate

ANNAPOLIS, MARYLAND -- I ordered a sectional from Bassett with down and spring core and received one with down core. I immediately called the store within minutes of delivery to let them know of the mistake. The sales associate said that I was confused in the order because we looked at 3 different sofa. I know what I ordered. I would not order down core because the cushions are entirely too soft for me to sit on. I was referred to the store manager ** who indicated that she reviewed the order which I signed and it was as ordered. I indicated to the sales associated that I had left my glasses home and she indicated that it was not a problem and told me where to sign and initial.

I did as I was told and did not look at the sales receipt when I got home because I trusted the sales associate. ** has told me that she had spoken to her store manager, **, and they will not make any changes. I have asked many times that this complaint be escalated to the CEO, but to no avail. I am also unable to get good contact information for him. I had initially asked that the sofa be replaced with the correct one but Bassett is unwilling to honor the mistakes of their sales associates.

I have now purchased a sofa that I can use and still waiting for Bassett to do the honorable thing and take their sofa back and issue a refund. I believe I am being penalized because of a previous issue I had with Basset in which they returned my money for a recliner. I need some intervention by the CEO.

Bassett Sold Us Defective Furniture and Will Not Replace It.

ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND -- Bassett in Rockville, MD is horrible! They sold us a defective piece of furniture not once, but twice. They then did not honor their commitment to replace it, even though they admitted fault. Originally they said they would (with no time limit), then due to a delay on my part - a major family matter, I was delayed in coming into the store, though I notified them of this.

Initially the lady we dealt with said "come on in", and then called back to say the manager would not let us pick out a new piece. The piece is completely falling apart and they stopped making it due to so many defects. We are now having to take them to small claims court. I would definitively avoid buying any furniture there. I will never shop there again, sorry to say. Do so at your own risk!

Beware of This Furniture Store

HOOVER, ALABAMA -- BEWARE OF THIS STORE!!! We had a nightmare with this furniture store. We ordered a clearance bed and after 4 weeks of waiting it was to be delivered on a Friday. They called that morning to tell us what time they would be here. After 3 hours after scheduled time we called them. They told us, that we had postponed our order. Of course this was not true. They told us it would be another week of waiting.

I was a little leery of this bed because it never said what wood this bed was made of. I asked the sales lady and she told me it was solid wood which now I have my doubts. So we cancelled our order and went to Kincaid where we were told my bed would be solid cherry. We ordered the bed and it was delivered in 3 days. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. My bed is top quality and I'm so thankful I cancelled with Bassett. I will always believe "You get what you pay for."

Bait and Switch

KENNESAW, GEORGIA -- This review is a warning to anyone who buys Bassett Furniture. I have had a dispute with them on a purchase since day one of delivery. I ordered a custom piece of upholstered furniture. The quality and craftsmanship of the delivered piece was well under anything they have in their showroom. They told me it was because of the fabric I chose and took no responsibility.

Their “Design Expert”, whom I worked closely with, never informed me that this fabric would behave in any other manner than what was displayed in their showroom. After delivery, they cited the fabric and acted as if it was my problem for choosing it. They offered no resolution except for me to repurchase the ottoman with a different fabric. I have reported them to BBB for their bait and switch tactics but since Bassett is unwilling to do anything, there is not much more I can do but warn others.

Resolution Update 11/13/2014:

I am updating my review because Bassett has come forward to resolve the issue to my satisfaction. Thank You.

Defective Drawers and Knobs

SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS -- In June of 2016 I purchased the Commonwealth large desk, the writing desk, and two small desks from Bassett in Southlake TX. In June of 2018 I purchased the Commonwealth Bedroom Chest, Lingerie Chest, Dresser, and 2 nightstands. I have had nothing but issues with the drawers on both the office furniture and the bedroom furniture. The cheap plastic knobs on the bedroom furniture keep pulling off -- not because they are not screwed in tight -- the plastic in the knobs breaks in half. After about 6 months, the bedroom chest bottom drawer began to sag and wouldn't close. Luckily it was still under warranty, and Bassett has done that repair.

Now, the office furniture -- which I thought was fine -- has drawer issues. The sliders in one of the drawers is completely jammed. I have managed to remove the drawer, and there appears to be nothing broken or jammed, but the slider just hangs up and the drawer won't open any more than about 9 inches. Of course, the office furniture is out of warranty, and Bassett doesn't have technicians in Texas that repair out of warranty furniture.

So they referred me to a third party furniture repair company, Guardsman, who will charge me $150 IF they can fix the drawer. If not, they will charge me a $60 service call, then I will have to purchase new sliders from Bassett and call Guardsman to come out and install them. Before the issue with the office desk drawer today, I was getting ready to purchase dining room furniture from Bassett, but I have changed my mind. I'm done buying furniture from Bassett.

Poor Quality

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA -- We had Bassett den furniture for years. It withstood five children and numerous pets but it was time for a change. We purchased 3 chairs, two ottoman and a couch from Bassett. We love the designs the decorator picked out. But the quality is poor. We returned one ottoman because the fabric pilled after only a couple of months. It was a struggle to get Bassett to listen but after accusing us of putting our "workboots" on it and claiming that we had mistreated the ottoman after two or three months. They took it back.

We paid extra for firm cushions but did not realize that only applied to the couch. The fabric on two of the chairs is already showing signs of wear after barely two years. The covers on the arms of the chairs fall off because there is not enough fabric to make them useful. Very disappointing. I would not buy anything from them again.

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA -- Within the first couple of months of owning this piece of junk furniture it started falling apart. The frame became loose and the pillow cushions went flat. Bassett took possession of it for two months to repair it and the same thing happened again. However, we were out of our one year warranty. Seriously, there is absolutely no stuffing on the sides of the rocker at all. Strictly a wood frame. And, the same goes for the leg rest and I have to sit on pillows because the seat cushions sink in so far and I am not kidding! Poor, poor, poor construction and horrible customer service. Absolutely, the worse customer service I have ever experienced.

HIGH POINT, NORTH CAROLINA -- My home was flooded from top to bottom! I was going to do my rounds in my area as we have many furniture stores. My first stop was Bassett. I was welcomed, assigned a designer, Ashley ** and I never had to go to another store. Beautiful showroom, professional receptionist, and my designer was topnotch. I left my floor plans with her, came back 4 days later, taken to the reveal room, and I was in awe of the beauty that was created. My budget was $22,000.00. She came in at 18,421. I would recommend Bassett Furniture to everyone and Ashley's talent goes far beyond what I expected.

CONCORD, NC -- We encountered the most condescending person ever. Because our budget was less than $5000 for a furniture piece he suggested a consignment shop in their place. I would never go to a Bassett again or ever recommend it to anyone. Completely offended.

NJ, NEW YORK -- The saleslady was selling us a living room set that she sold to a neighbor for a totally different price... Try this for laughs... From $5000.00 to $18,000 to us. LOL. Alicea is the salesperson's name.
