My ex-girlfriend of 2 1/2 years allowed to rent movies and charge to my bank card!!
Posted by on
HILLVIEW, KENTUCKY -- That's right. We had broken up and I could see her being allowed to rent under our account with the blockbuster card but blockbuster went a step ahead and charged my bank account which she had no part of for the movies. She kept the movies completely and an overdraft fee from a bank caused me to spend 300 dollars on 3 movies she decided to never return.

I called blockbuster and they say there is nothing they could do. I spoke with a manager who said there was nothing they could do to remove the fees. I spoke to a cashier who went to school with my X and he confirmed it was she who was in here renting the movies.

I used my bank card as my second form of ID to sign up for the blockbuster card. So why would Blockbuster allow her to rent movies on my credit card that she isn't even a cosigner or authorized user on?

Did you asked your ex. for the BB card back?

They charge lost properties to the account owner, which is you.

This does not sound like BB fault.

You should take your ex to small claims court to get your money back.
spiderman2 on 2007-08-31:
Had you taken her off your account? How are they supposed to know you broke up?
trumania on 2007-08-31:
Is she the authorized user on the blockbuster account? When you signed up for the account did you ask for her to have a Blockbuster card as well?

If you did and you did not ask Blockbuster to have her removed then... how are they supposed to know she wasn't allowed to rent movies? If she rents on your Blockbuster account and does not return the movies, you are responsible, it's your account.

Yeah, I would sue her sorry backside.

Almost anyone can use the Blockbuster card. They don't ask for ID anyway and therefore, almost anyone can use the same card.
Suusan B. on 2007-08-31:
She didn't rent movies on your credit card - - Blockbuster allowed her to rent movies via your joint Blockbuster membership which was guaranteed by your credit card - - two entirely different things. As a previous poster stated, how was BB supposed to know that you two had parted ways?

This is not Blockbuster's fault and you need to go after your former girlfriend for the money.

Out of curiosity - - you have cancelled the BB account that she used - - right?

If my ex-girlfriend took money from or charged things on my account after our breakup, I'll beat her up with a baseball bat.

Head...pounding...too much...detail...

Did they explain why?
trumania on 2007-08-23:
I think Blockbuster discontinued all the online coupons for the Total Access program. I think the change was on July 24th, boo.

Blockbuster screwed a lot of people over.

Bogus Late Fee
Posted by on
PHOENIX, ARIZONA -- To Whom it May Concern,

I received a letter from Blockbuster stating that we have four videos that were returned late.

The videos were rented specifically for the "5-day" rental agreement. I returned the videos prior to noon since that is the cut-off.

I called your store and was told in a rude tone that the fault was mine, and that the charge would not be removed.

Let me ask you, is the late charge fee more important to you than my future business? I certainly hope not.

If you would like to have me continue to rent from Blockbuster, please remove the late charges from my account. Otherwise, I will not rent from you again, and my complaint will be public with no resolution on the Internet indefinitely for everyone to see.
Company Response 2/5/2001:
To My3Cents...I just wanted to let you know that after a week of sending the letter to Blockbuster Video, I received a call from the manager. He immediately removed the late fee on our account! Thank you VERY much for your help. This site is great and encourage everyone to utilize it.

Your complaint is normal: But how about if their employee follows you out into the parking lot to threaten you for speaking your mind to them about the 'late fees'??
Anonymous on 2001-11-30:
Blockbusters policies on late fees are almost illegal. I had a late fee that I was unaware of because I returned a movie 5 minutes late. They failed to mail any notices to me or call my residence and leave a message. 2 months later they automatically took the money from my checking account via a Visa checkcard. This caused me to accrue 80 dollars in overdraft fees.
I went to the store and was met by rude employees and a manager that was apparently not concerned about my problem. I finally demanded they find my original contract and tear it up. I didn't want them having my credit information. They said they couldn't carry out my request and I refused to leave the store until they found it in their files. After their looks of amazement and disbelief they threatened to call the police. I stood my ground and eventually got my way. 1 year later I had to rent from them again only to find out that they still had me active in their system. I would not give them any credit information this time and closed the account after I used their services. They are in a class action lawsuit right now as stated on their receipts for just these sort of tactics. The lawsuit actually does nothing to rectify the problem. Availability of their product is a concern and therefore the need for late fees. But using collection agencies and hitman tactics to collect a small amount of money?
Give me a Break!

I too just received a late for for: $3.99 on a video that I am sure that I returned on time. This late fee is for something that I checked out TWO months ago! Since so much time has gone by it is my word against theirs.

I can understand your frustration with Blockbuster. I too received a notice stating that I owed them almost $30.00 in late fees, which they send to a 3rd party collection agency, which will report to the credit bureo!! I too am outraged by their ridiculous late fees and inaccurate billing. The late fees cost more than all of the video's. It is actually only a couple of dollars more to actually buy the video used!

I had a few late fee experiences which pretty much has disabled me from going back to Block Buster. I went in to rent a movie, and they said I had a late fee on my account, so I asked them on what movie, and they gave me the name of a movie I had never even heard of. Apparently my ex was using my information to rent movies. So I kindly asked them to please only allow me to rent from this account, and to ID anyone who uses this account. They kindly said they would take care of it. Well a few months later, I went in again to rent a movie, and they said I had late fees. So I asked again, which movie, and this time it was two movies I had not even rented. I was very furious because I specifically requested that no one else be allowed to rent on this account. I have yet to pay those late fees, as I feel they are not my responsibility. So I can see your frustration and anger about the whole late fee bull crap.

And this thread made all the difference in the world. There are no more late fees at Blockbuster!

You people act like you are SO innocent, when I bet all of these complaints are due to your stupidity in not bringing the movies back on time and you forgot. Believe me, you people make this job so much harder than it is and eventually it's going to probably shut down because they can't get anyone willing to work there to put up with whining, abusive customers. Yes, I said abusive. I work there as a manager to support my family and I don't know how many times I am treated unfairly, rudely and even threatened by customers over a stupid 1.25 restocking fee that was THEIR fault to begin with. You people have to realize we just WORK THERE. We don't make the rules, we don't make the policies, and we are doing just what the company tells us to do because THAT IS OUR JOB. Just like you have a job, well, treat us with some respect once in a while like you would be treated at your place of employment and maybe everyone will be a little happier. If you heard 50 times a day, "I returned that movie on time," or "You f&*%ing idiot, you charged me .50 too much. Can't you do anything right! You are SO STUPID. I should take you in the parking lot and beat your A$$." Yes, I'm NOT kidding about this. I work at THE store with highest BAD DEBT in the nation, which means that people don't bring their movies back on time EVER, they don't pay their fees, they steal ALL THE TIME, and you name it. Every day I work I get harassing phone calls, threatened, slandering, called racist, and you name it, ALL because I'm doing my job and would like to be treated with an ounce of respect. If you people were treated the way you treat Blockbuster employees, and your job was like mine, you'd go home crying EVERY night like half of our employees do. You people treat people who work at "paper hat and name tag" employers with NO respect and you need to distance yourself from the situation and really see what kind of person you really are. You probably would hate yourself.
