Don't Trust Brakes Plus in Colorado Springs at 3784 E. Pikes Peak Ave.

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO -- On Fri. March 5th,2011 my son took his car, a 2003 Z4 BMW to Brakes Plus at 3784 E. Pikes Peak Ave. in Colorado Springs, CO 80909.

They were running a "Special" on free brake inspections. My son told them it sounded like his front brakes might need repaired. He wanted an estimate. The service representative called back approximately 1 1/2 hours later to tell my son the estimate was a little over $1100.00. He used high pressure tactics to then say all four Rotors needed replaced plus all four Disc Pads also needed replaced.

My son told him he couldn't afford that and that he'd come pick up the car. The service representative then said that my son should call a tow truck to pick up the car because he didn't feel right letting such an unsafe vehicle be on the road. He then ask if my son could at least spend $500.00 to get it fixed partially. My son said,"no".

To make a long story short, today, March 8th, we had two disc brake pads replaced elsewhere. There was nothing at all wrong with any of the Rotors. It cost us under $200.00.

Do not trust this business. They use "high pressure" sales and "scare tactics" in my opinion.

I did call the manager today and he is "reviewing" this incident. I informed the manager that this business doesn't have a good reputation according to a co-worker of my husbands, (Paul}. He also was quoted quite high {$1200.00) for a front end alignment because this company said a "bar was bent" and needed replaced. Paul took his car elsewhere because the supposed "bent bar" was supposed to be bent. Paul knew they didn't know what they were talking about, {he restores classic cars as a hobby}. The repair was done elsewhere for under....$100.00 !
Beware of this company !

Great lesson here for your son. No repair shop, will ever provide a "free" inspection without subsequently attempting to sell unneeded services.

But then again, who would bring a BMW in to a chain brake shop anyway? A reputable mechanic who specializes in German cars would be the best choice. A vehicle as fine as a BMW should not be skimped on as far as service goes.

To: Genuine Nerd,
My son is a student. We were only looking for an estimate, not like a full time student is rolling in cash.
