Unauthorized Credit Card Charges
Posted by Fizzics on 06/27/2008
Yesterday (6/26/2008) this company placed two unauthorized charges, each for $69.99 on my credit card. I purchased something from them approximately one year ago (8/2007), but never since. I was surprised to see someone else had the exact same complaint as me, on the exact same dates! What's going on? If that person can somehow give me the company phone number that he/she used...I would so much appreciate it!! The numbers that I have go unanswered.

No one has been able to make phone contact. You will have to dispute the charge through your bank.

This has eveidently been happening to anyone and everyone that placed an order last year between 04/01/2007 and 10/01/2007 at Classic Closeouts (it's all over the web).

And no one can seem to get ahold of them.

They best advice, as PB said, is to dispute the charge via your credit card or bank.

Good luck!

According to the BBB:

Out of Business

According to information in the BBB files, it appears that the company is no longer in business. The phone numbers the BBB had for this company are disconnected, and directory assistance does not have a listing for this company. The BBB's mail to this company has been returned as undeliverable.

Someone has clearly been using the company's old merchant account for fraudulant charges, I assume now being deposited in a recently switched bank account. Dispute the charges immediately. You should have no trouble getting them reversed but you don't want to wait. This merchant account is about to be shut down and then credits become a problem.

My god, I can't believe it. I was charged 69.99 from them on June 26. I hadn't ordered from them since 11/07. That means I will have to cancel my credit card(check card) at the bank. I am sorry to say I don't feel so bad no that I am not alone--sorry everyone. This sucks!!
Posted by Fbarkon on 2008-06-29:
The same thing happened to me. The funny thing is that sometimes the phone would just ring and ring( someone was using the phone line) and other times you'd be able to leave a message. Cancel your cards and warn all your friends. I have seen posts of people who were charged who never ordered from them at ALL! See See http://www.bizrate.com/ratings_guide/cust_reviews__mid--31591.html
They have piggybacked on trusted companies like amazon.com and frauded many more who are yet to read/receive their statements. Forward a warning to your friends and family and save them the headache.

I, too, got charged a bogus charge on June 25, 2008. My charge was only $49.99; but it overdrafted my account, which charged an extra $35.00.

I am looking for a number right now. If I find one, I will post it for you.

My credit card was charged $59.99 on 6/26/08. Sounds like this happened to a lot of other people as well. I found a phone number and there is no answer, it just continues to ring. Something is very fishy about this. I am disputing the charge with my credit card company.

An update to my original posting: I hope this helps all who have been fraudulently charged by classic closeouts: file a complaint with Trust-e. It worked for me....they got my money back in a few days. BUT, be sure you go to their website and read their requirements, and follow them. I have heard from many who got their money back from Trust-e, and one or two who didn't. So make sure you let them know that you tried to contact classic closeouts and that they will not respond.

Here is some more contact info. What they are doing is not uncommon, they are just taking old credit card info and running bogus charges as they are having money problems. They are playing the odd's that most people will not catch the scam. It is usually done with smaller amounts though that people will not notice.

Hello All,

The Hempstead DA Ms. Rice e-mailed me today. We are to go to her website, Nassau County DA Office. Go under Criminal Complaint Info and print the forms to file a criminal complaint and mail them. She also told me to call back to the Hempstead Police at 516-571-2600 and speak to someone in Consumer Affairs.

Good Luck All,
Melissa

update!!! I got my money back today! The headache is over! I don't know what did it since i followed all suggestions given and notified the media as well. Good luck to you all and don't give up. We work hard for our money and although we choose to give it freely we should fight tooth and nail when it's taken away!

This just happened to me today! My account went under too. My bank canceled my card, and I am going to be refunded the money. Someone has to do something about this. Their website is still active!
Posted by psanam on 2008-07-20:
This exact thing happened to me as well.
Purchased something in december of 07, and found charges for the EXACT amount you listed for 69.99, just last week on the 14th.
They have removed their contact number and since then have read nothing but negative feedback about them. Anyone making any head-way against them please let us know!

I just saw two charges posted to my account today for $69.99!!!I called the number given to me by my bank. The first time I called a guy answered and said I'd have to leave a message for the Administrative Department because they weren't there right now. That was the first sign that got me thinking something was wrong as I called early in the day. I hung up and called again 3 times with no answer in any department. A recording came up and said to leave message. I'm sure I'll get the money back from my bank but this double erroneous charge hit me for $139.98 and left my bank account in the negative. I do feel better knowing I'm not the only one but how can we stop these guys going forward so it doesn't happen again? This has happened to so many people already. Isn't that enough to start some kind of investigation?
Posted by selinamarie03 on 2008-07-24:
I just posted a complaint with the Better Business Bureau Online of New York. I suggest everyone who experienced this do the same so they can start an investigation and put a stop to them.

I got hit for 69.95 on 6/18/07 on my DISC card. I called DISC and they but the transaction "In Dispute" and immediately credited my account for the full amount. Classic Closeouts has to come up with a valid transaction receipt or DISC won't pay them.
Posted by sodeep on 2008-08-14:
Keep disputing the charges folks. I did the same . After disputing it do not be surprised if they rebill a higher amount. Here's my experience

I bought something from classic closeouts in 2007 and in June (06/26/08) I saw a transaction for $69.99 which I have no clue about. So I went ahead and disputed the charge and got my money refunded by chase but lo and behold the next month I see a new charge on my credit card for $79.99. I called up the chase customer service for some advice and they told me that if they rebilled you without contesting the earlier dispute then chances are that they do not want to contest the dispute. I was advised to keep disputing the charges until they finally give in. I tried their(classiccloseout) number 516-5381616 but after leaving 2 voicemails , on my third attempt I got a message saying that their number is not in service (within an hours time of leaving the earlier voicemails). So now I just wait for the end of the month to hit the dispute button :)

Unauthorized Charge
Posted by Bekah21 on 06/27/2008
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS -- I too made a purchase from Classiccloseouts in the past (8/07) and just yesterday 6/26/08 I find a hold on my account of $49.99 out of the blue. I too called and emailed on 6/26/08 and found the voicemail was full and have yet to get a response to my email.

I did however call today 6/27/08 and was able to leave a message but I am still awaiting a call or email back.

On a side note, I ordered multiple apparel items on my order from them, flip flops, bras and panties, coats and skirts and wasn't satisfied with anything. The clothing was cheap and of poor quality and the flip flops had the STRONGEST plastic smell to them I have ever encountered. I had to air them out for weeks before wearing them!

I would file a dispute on the credit card immediately. And place a stop order on any future charges from them.
Posted by LarryDan on 2008-06-27:
The same thing happened to me yesterday (I also posted here). Dispute the charge with your bank, you will probably have to go in and sign an affidavit. As soon as the charge hard posts to your account, your bank can then refund the charge. You will not get a hold of Classic Closeouts and they will not call you back, so don't waste your time.

This company also goes by Internet Value Group. They have been involved in multiple judgements including making clothes with stolen trademark/logos and rebate fraud.

I was also taken for $69.99 and have filed with every agency, called the police and nobody will get back to me!

Sad to see that I'm not the only person who has been defrauded by these people. My account was charged today (07/21/2008)$69.99 and i haven't made a purchase since 2005. Got the credit card canceled and hoping my bank will reverse the charges.
Posted by bekah21 on 2008-12-22:
Just an update, thanks for everyone's help on this. Hope you all got the charge reversend back into your account as I did. Of course, they never did contact me to apologize as any reputable company would have. This is the reason why many people will not do business online. (Not me of course, I have purchased a billion things since!) However I will never purchase from them again.

Beware classic closeouts
Posted by Dixgirl on 10/14/2009
I see all of the reviews on this company and have recently tried to call any number I can find linked to this company; all of which have been disconnected. They, of course, charged my credit card but have not sent my order. How are they able to get away with this? I even called my bank to reverse the charges and they cannot. Is there no one that can do anything about this? I have tried to contact someone through their "customer care center" via email, but there again, no reply.
Does anyone have any helpful advice in getting my money back?

Do Not Use Classicloseouts.com
Posted by Memphischic on 03/11/2009
HEMPSTEAD, NEW YORK -- I ordered a couple of items from this company in Feb. 2004. In June and August of 2008, I received three charges. Unfortunately I can't get them reversed because I didn't catch them in time. I have called, emailed and called again to the company and never get responses. The BBB shows how bad this company is and there are many websites. People, the card services and the companies that sell products to them need to know how bad this company is and stop supplying them.

I have three charges, $69.99 and two $79.99 that I can't get taken off. Don't be like me and get caught.

You should get a lawyer to start a class action lawsuit against this scammer.

Unauthorized Charges
Posted by JaymiC on 08/04/2008
HEMPSTEAD, NEW YORK -- I ordered from this company once in 2005 and my credit card has been charged twice - once in June 08 for 59.99 and once in July 08 for 79.99. No one returns calls or emails and the "operator" who was not at all concerned about my situation said that all he could do was take the info, and they would investigate and "someone" would get back to me. Still waiting...

There are many other similar complaints online and I will be filing a complaint with the State of NY at: http://www.oag.state.ny.us/complaints/pdfs/internet_complaint.pdf

YOUR BANK SHOULD DO A CHARGE BACK
Posted by Anonymous on 2008-08-04:
Classic Closeouts has been doing this to a large number of past customers for a couple of months now. Think they are playing the percentages that not many will catch it or make an issue of it. Sounds like they are having money problems and stealing from their customers to cover it.

Credit Card Fraud - Bogus Charge
Posted by Esquare726 on 08/01/2008
Like countless others, I have discovered a $69.99 charge on my credit card statement for a purchase that I did not make.

The seller does not reply to online messages via their site nor calls to their customer service
department.

I have reported this to various agencies at the state and federal level.

There are similar complaints about this company posted across the Internet.

You didn't say you did, but make sure you dispute the charge with your credit card company.
Posted by tnchuck100 on 2008-08-02:
The seller may not respond to you but I guarantee when the credit card company asks him to prove the transaction or lose the money he will sit up and take notice. On the other hand, if he was, if fact, scamming he will just let it go.

Customer Service
Posted by Hgb1c on 09/29/2007
Beware of websites that do not customer service phone numbers. I went back and forward by email for weeks without my complaint ever being addressed. I will not order from Classic Closeouts again due to their seemingly non-existent customer service.

Very frustrating experience.

Refund
Posted by Nancita on 09/12/2005
I have been trying to obtain a refund on a $50 purchase I returned over three months ago. As required, I obtained an RMA and followed the instructions for return. Whenever I email the company, I am told there have been a lot of returns and I will be contacted when my refund has been processed.

I 2 had the same problem with Classic Closeouts.com. But, I did receive my credit about 4 months later. I was also told that they have many returns to go through, etc, etc, it's processing. I also proved the delivery of the package and sent this to them, that's when I received my credit, Geez just 4 months later, what a hassle.I told Classic Closeouts that this is unacceptable customer service and I will never order from them again!!
