It Is Inhumane To Shut Off Water With 2 Children And Baby
Posted by Missyf on 07/24/2008
AUGUSTA, GEORGIA -- The Columbia County has a scam going on.

I have 40 witnesses who are raving over there bill. I wanted them to prove how my bill can be $90.00 a month and I don't have a pool or flower to water. They don't even read my meter they are estimating and shut my water off. I have a baby and 2 kids and would think they would not because it is inhumane. It should be told about the scam going on. Interview other customers and see.

it is called pay your bill. you can dispute an estimated bill, but remember, it could be higher.

with 2 kids and a baby, how much laundry, dishes, baths, do you do? this would add up fast.

you can also learn to read your own meter, this will allow you to verify the reading.

as far as being inhumane, it is not. although water is required to stay alive, you wont die to quickly. the feds do prevent electrcity from being shut off, but not water.

How many bills have you not paid? A utility usually doesn't shut off after one missed payment.

"the feds do prevent electrcity from being shut off" - This is false.

Any utility or service can be shut off for non-payment. There are very restricted qualifications for any exceptions. Each city/town/municipality/district may establish their own notification procedures.

The meter is read electronically.

IF you pay your bills then utilities do not get shut off. Did you contact them about a payment plan perhaps? They might have been willing to work with you.

They can't turn your electricity off ONLY if it is used for the heat in your home AND you have talked to them about payment schedule.

Not true TGT101 - tnchuck is correct, each area has it's own specific regulations. Where I grew up it could get -20 to -40 in the winter months. If a household was heated only by electricity, power could not be turned off, regardless if a customer could pay.

As has been stated earlier each area has its' own policies. In my area if your utility bill (which includes water) is not paid your services can be discontinued. Here it is not requirement to provide free service to anyone. There are a number of agencies to call if someone needs assistance and even a check box on the utility bill if someone wishes to pay an additional sum to contribute to those in need.

Sometimes you can't pay your bills. I mean, you've got children. I suggest downsizing or anything you can, or just get a different place to live or an apartment.

It is humane to turn off anything that is a luxury to you.

Is $90.00 a big increase from what you usually pay? If it is, you may want to have your place checked for a water leak...it can be underground and you're not aware of it.
