Don't trust your belongings to Cook's Moving & Storage Company

HAMPTON, VIRGINIA -- Cook's Moving & Storage Company on Basil Sawyer Drive in Hampton, Virginia completely LOST a whole crate of furniture we had in storage with them. We had two other crates that were retrieved, but they never found the third crate, containing some very sentimental items of my mother's.
This happened in May, 2009, and even though they claim they are still "LOOKING" for it, I have no hope that it will ever be found at this time. The crate contained several pieces of bedroom & Living room furniture, rugs, & antiques. The insurance settlement was an insult, less than $500.00, because they valued everything at 60 cents per pound.
I was unaware that I needed to put a higher value on the items when they were taken into storage, because no one mentioned this "little" bit of information to me. The owner of the company was very evasive to my calls over several months, and I felt that I always just got the run-around when I would call to ask about their efforts to find the crate. The only conclusion I can come to is that the stuff was stolen out of their warehouse, which is NOT open to the public. I would urge anyone seeking a storage facility to steer clear of Cook's. I even hired a lawyer to try to get them to make more of an effort to find the crate, but this just ran into more wasted money. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR - DO NOT STORE STUFF WITH COOK'S MOVING & STORAGE!!
