The Voting Is Fixed
Posted by on
I have watched Dancing With The Stars since the first show. When I go to vote I never get all the votes that I am supposed to get. If I am supposed to get 5, I get 4, there is something wrong with the counting. Also I cannot believe the unwed mom from Alaska can still be on the show. She is one of the worst dancers that I have ever seen. I will not be watching the show from now on, for one thing keep the politians off the show. You have lost a good viewer.

Also I have talked to others that has watched the show and they are on longer watching it either.

People are free to vote for whoever they want. If people want to keep the "unwed mom from Alaska" on the show, they can vote for her.
Anonymous on 11/10/2010:
what do you mean you don't get all the votes you are supposed to?
do you not think all of your votes are counted? if that is the case, do you have any proof?
Anonymous on 11/10/2010:
It's not always about pure talent, but sometimes more about appeal. If the audience and/or America really love a particular contestant then they vote for them. I.E.-Prince Poppycock from America's Got Talent, or the kid flying the kite? How much talent does it take to fly a kite. Show me once or twice and I could fly it as well. But it was MORE than that. The kid touched the hearts of the voting public, and thus advanced much further than he should have. Apparently as the case with the "unwed mom from Alaska".
Venice09 on 11/10/2010:
I only tuned in a few times this season, but it was enough to know that Bristol Palin cannot dance. I can't believe she made it to the semi-finals, but I don't think the voting is fixed. Are you saying that you are only able to vote four times instead of five? What happens on the fifth try?

Bud, I agree about the kite flyer but not about Prince Poppycock. Sharon was right when she said he is the male Lada Gaga. He has an enormous talent, and I doubt that we've seen the last of him.
momsey on 11/10/2010:
Whenever anyone says "the voting is fixed" when it comes to a reality competition show, that only means that their favorite went home. I don't see why they would fix the votes to keep Bristol Palin on and send home someone else instead. I just don't see the motive. But, regardless, she's not the worst dancer ever. She's not great, but she's not bad. I don't know what her marital or maternal status has to do with anything. If you're upset about babies born out of wedlock, you should know the co-host is an unwed mother. How horrifying!!!

I watch it and I've been watching it less and less lately (didn't see it at all this week) but it's not because I think it's fixed. The performance show is always too long (I don't have two hours every week to devote to this show.)
PepperElf on 11/10/2010:
good point bud. I mean look at William Hung.
yet still he actually had votes and even an album.

sometimes people vote, not for talent, but to see something they find funny.

though ... I'm curious. why do people get 5 votes? what's wrong with just one? unless it's to allow people to stuff the voting box and make it look like more people are watching?
Venice09 on 11/10/2010:
I don't believe William Hung got any votes because he didn't make it to the live show. He did manage to make somewhat of a career out of his AI exposure though.
momsey on 11/10/2010:
Pepper, on Dancing with the Stars, you get as many votes per week as there are dancers left. So if there are five dancers left, you have five votes. Next week, when there are four dancers, you'll get four votes.
Venice09 on 11/10/2010:
Oh, I didn't know that, momsey. I'm wasn't sure how the voting worked on DWTS. I just knew there was a limit, as opposed to American Idol where the voting is unlimited.
momsey on 11/10/2010:
I actually think it makes it more fair for there to be a limit on voting. That way, teeny boppers with nothing better to do can't sit there on speed dial and speed texting their votes for two hours.
Venice09 on 11/10/2010:
I agree, momsey. That's exactly what happens on AI. I'd like to know the percentage of votes cast by teenage girls. I'll bet it's quite high.
Anonymous on 11/10/2010:
Are you upset that Bristol is an unwed mother or that she's from Alaska? Worst dancer you've ever seen? Being a watcher from season 1, you're saying that she's worse than Woz, Steve-O, Kate Gosselin, and Adam Corolla?

How about this one: Jennifer Gray is married now, but she had her kid 5 months after getting married. Do the math. I guess we should stop voting for her now, too?
Anonymous on 11/10/2010:
Bristol is not a politician, but Mama Grizzly is...is that what you're referring to when you say keep the politicians off the show?

I don't watch the show so I don't know who can or cannot dance, but if you're concerned that the voting is rigged, have you tried contacting the network that hosts it?
Anonymous on 11/10/2010:
I find it hard to believe that people care this much about a show where so called celebrities dance.

Full contact dancing might have a chance in my house...
oldisgood on 11/10/2010:
I think Bristol has done great. She had absolutely NO dancing experience and is basically shy. She has done remarkably well. No, she isn't the best dancer, but YES, she has the hearts of a lot of people.
momsey on 11/10/2010:
I agree, oldisgood! And it's obvious she has the hearts of a lot of people since she's not getting the best scores from the judges but she's lasting week after week.
trmn8r on 11/10/2010:
I can see the entertainment value in this show, but it isn't something I would watch. A few days ago, there was a professional dancing competition shown on my local PBS station. It was very impressive.

So-called celebrities dancing, on ice, playing water polo, knitting socks, etc just doesn't do it for me.
momsey on 11/10/2010:
And that's what makes the world go 'round! Different strokes for different folks.

But they got, Diff'rent Strokes.
It takes, Diff'rent Strokes.
It takes, Diff'rent Strokes to move the world.
Everybody's got a special kind of story
Everybody finds a way to shine,
It don't matter that you got not a lot
So what,

And together we'll be fine....
Because it takes, Diff'rent Strokes to move the world.
Yes it does.

I might watch a show that had celebrities knitting socks. That has the potential to be hilarious.
clutzycook on 11/10/2010:
DWS and AI are on the list of shows I would LOVE to see cancelled. What a waste of Prime Time.

Although I think "Knitting with the Stars" could have some potential :)

I think its a shame that a lot of better dancers are getting eliminated and bristol is still on there. I think her mother and her tea party friend are keeping her on there. It's got to the point with me that I don't care if I miss the show or not!!!
momsey on 11/10/2010:
I'm sure Sarah Palin would appreciate you thinking she has the kind of power that would extend to the ability to keep and get rid of contestants on a reality show, but I don't think that's it! People must like the girl!
Huck_Hoshimoto on 11/10/2010:
Fixed? WRONG!

That would only apply is Sarah were a Democrat!
You know 98% of every celebrity alive is a Liberal!
[Must be something in the bottled water].
momsey on 11/10/2010:
Excellent point, Huck. I actually thought Bristol would be eaten alive on that show, but seems like she's doing pretty well.
Venice09 on 11/10/2010:
I have to agree that Bristol is trying and has come a long way. The only reason she is still there is because people like her. That's not unusual in these competitions. Talent is sometimes secondary. It would be a shame if she won though. That's where a line should be drawn. But if she gets the votes, nothing can be done to change it, as far as I know.
browniegirl on 11/11/2010:
I have contacted the local station on the voting and they said they would check in on it won't make any difference. I said that she is the worst and there has been several others on there also. But this is supposed to Dancing With The Stars, she is no star, just like Kat Gosslin was no star, although wh did have a TV show. This show is losing lots of viewers as I have talked to a lot of them.
jennifer on 11/12/2013:
I have watched this from the beginning and I am appalled and ashamed at the people who are voting for these stars the title of the show is called Dancing With The Stars the vote he for whom dances the best not the most popular this year people have lost all sense of what this show is about not popularity contest its a dance show.so I think this will be my last time watching the show.
Karen on 11/18/2013:
They obviously need to change their fan voting format. This is not a popularity contest. When stars week after week get high scores and go home while other stars week after week get low scores never getting higher than a 7 or maybe an 8 and are on the verge of making it to the finals There is something wrong with this picture. Why would any star want to work their tail off to get high scores only to go home. Got to change how much fan voting determines who goes home

The show where the People with Talent get Kicked off
Posted by on
Rating: 1/51
Every time I see someone with amazing abilities get booted off that show it makes me depressed and as a result I stop watching. They finally had a season that brought one of the people that was unfairly kicked off back on, Sabrina Bryan. After a Hurricane blows through and she gets a perfect 30 from the judges she is voted off the show for a second time in the sixth week (same week as the first time she was kicked off) Just goes to show the show is a popularity contest but worst part is that not everyone got a chance to vote due to a state of emergency.. And I am going back to not watching the show for a final time.

I watched this show for 5 minutes once, and my impression is that if it was about talent there wouldn't actually be a show of this title.
leet60 on 10/31/2012:
This show, as with most voting based reality shows is a farce. It is quite evident, with these shows, that the popular vote is not actually considered, rather the winner each week is based on the opinions of the producers as to who is the most marketable. It is about the money.

It is evident in this show, AGT, The Voice, American Idol and the like.
CUontheFlipSide on 10/31/2012:
Life is a popularity contest.
Cwazychicken on 11/01/2012:
Most voting reality shows don't always have the best win..Like American idol.
BR on 11/01/2012:
DWTS needs to bring Sabrina back- this was an unfair elimiantion of all counts-
1st: people on the east coast could not vote- elimintions should have been extended by another week.
2nd: Judges were so wrong to give Kirstie the extra 2 points- because she was fun??? get real
3rd: If this unfairness is due to fan base you need to take the public voters out of the equation. It is a septic tank for unfair judging.
ABC and DWTS ought to be ashamed of themselves for not thinking ahead about the impact the storm would have on voters.
clutzycook on 11/02/2012:
They're not rescheduling the Presidential election so what makes you think they would reschedule a vote on a reality show?
Margie on 11/04/2012:
I agree with BR. Most of the east coast was in a state of emergency. Half of the east coast still has no electricity so no one could even see the show, much less vote. This is just wrong. They should bring them back for next week. It is not fair at all.

The Show Is Unfair
Posted by on
Rating: 1/51
Palin and Alley are the two worst dancers on the show and other better dancers are being eliminated. The voting is a joke. I have watched the show since season one. But I can't stand it any more. I will not watch the show again. The judging should be done by the judges only, not what we are told the viewing audience voted.

Bristal Palin is definitely the worst dancer and it is deplorable that Joey, Drew and now Helio are gone and she remains. I would be embarrassed if I was her. This show is so ridiculous with votes. I really do not believe the votes or the terrible judges. They say one thing then vote different. I was excited about this show but with Joey, Drew gone makes me wonder. I really like Melissa but who knows with the stupid votes clearly abc manipulates the votes. This show should be called dancing with whom? The purpose of the show does not apply. Get rid of Bristol or loose viewers.
leet60 on 10/10/2012:
It is fairly easy to discern, with any of these "voting" reality shows, that the winners each week and overall are the choices of the producers. Like most television it all comes down to ratings and profit.
trmn8r on 10/10/2012:
Bristol Palin is still in the spotlight? It's refreshing not seeing or hearing her mother, and since I don't watch DWTS her relatives as well.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA -- I enjoy watching Dancing With The Stars and hope it continues. However, I do not appreciate seeing men dance without shirts or tops. I find it quite offensive. Also, I believe some of the women should dress according to their dress size.

All show will never please all viewers. All shows will, however, will find disapproval by some people. Some shows will be seen as offensive by some viewers. There are just too many channels available to let one show upset your evening.

Some people like it. Some people don't. Things like this will always exist.

But when you get right down to the bottom line it's all about ratings. If they have high ratings showing skin that's what they are going to do.

Dancing With The Stars Complaint

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS -- I am writing this in absolute disgust of your show. This is not a show for dancing ability but rather a popularity contest. We saw it 2 seasons ago with Sarah Palin, last season with Kirsty Allie and this season with Chaz Bono who very obviously can't dance and is continuing to stay on a show that is SUPPOSED to be about dancing ability.

I am done watching your show and ABC should take notice and this show should be thrown off of the air. You are a grave disappointment.

While Chaz Bono is probably a terrible dancer, he is probably good-looking, which is what the ladies and few males voted on. (No I don't watch the show)
trmn8r on 10/05/2011:
The show is what it is, like American Idol and that ilk. It is your neighbors who make the decisions, not qualified judges, for the most part.
ChuhBaca on 10/05/2011:
The show isn't a popularity contest, and it's not a dancing competition. It is a reality TV series based on teaching people to dance and staying popular with the viewers. While it does make for entertainment, it's another manufactured concept that doesn't require writers to come up with stories.
There's nothing wrong with enjoying the show (I do myself sometimes, especially when Lacey is on) but take it for what it is.

My belief is this show, like all "voting based" reality shows have the outcome manipulated by the producers. Witness several winners for American Idol and the like over the years. It all comes down to what will generate viewers during the season and/or will help them capitalize on the winner after the show is finished.
DebtorBasher on 10/05/2011:
It's all about ratings and nothing else...and those people you mentioned brought viewers that would most likely not have watched it the show didn't have them...let's not forget Jerry Springer and Cloris Leachman...each season they put on someone that is going to be the 'shocker'.

What about Top Shot? Actually, Chaz was ugly as a woman, and the change did not make her/him/it any more attractive.
Venice09 on 10/06/2011:
I think one of the reasons Chaz made it through is because Cher said she would be in the audience if he was on next week.

DWTS is not just about dancing ability. It's a combination of personality, endurance, perseverance and progress.

These competition shows are rarely about the best talent. But in the end, the right person usually wins.

Name Change
Posted by on
If this show is going to continue to be more popularity than dancing ability, then change the name of the show to reflect this !! The name of the show "Dancing With the Stars" suggests that dancing is the skill needed to compete in this competition. If this show is really just a popularity competition, then change the name to "Popularity of the Stars". The competitors enter this contest expecting to be fairly judged on the dancing ability by both the judges and the viewers !!! This has not been happening ! Popularity is ruling. It's time to get back to the basics. Let's Dance !! If not, you'll lose viewers !!!!!

Anonymous on 11/17/2010:
They are very popular on the trailer park circuit...
momsey on 11/17/2010:
The same can be said for any show where the public votes. American Idol does not find the best singer, necessarily. It finds the singer that America relates to best or finds the most likable.

So You Think You Can Dance is famous for saying that they're searching for America's FAVORITE (not best) dancer. You can't tell people how to decide how to vote. It's just the nature of the medium.

And the Palins are VERY popular in some circles, and it's not just the trailer park.
Venice09 on 11/17/2010:
I think DWTS should be based more on talent though. There's more room for error in singing. Dancing has to be more precise.
Obsfucation on 11/17/2010:
I had to laugh at the commercial for the new Skating With The Stars; when they list the 'stars' they have to tell you who each of them is, because no one would recognize them otherwise. Some stars!
momsey on 11/17/2010:
What's especially funny is that they had "Skating with Celebrities" on another channel probably about 6 or 7 years ago.
clutzycook on 11/17/2010:
Obs, that's because no recognizable star would likely be caught dead doing a show like that I'd bet.
Inat on 11/17/2010:
funny how it's OK for a talentless mass like Ruben Studdard or that fantasia chick can win American idol based on popularity but a white single mother can't make the finals on DWTS

Anonymous on 11/17/2010:
It's a popularity contest not a true talent show you know?

We all know the popularity that William Hung got from just auditioning on Idol.
Inat on 11/17/2010:
well, when "the people" vote on popularity rather than skill, you don't always get the "best" person - look at the guy in the White House, for example!
Venice09 on 11/17/2010:
Sorry, Inat, but I disagree. Studdard and Fantasia are both extremely talented. Not my style, but that doesn't mean I don't recognize their talent.

Just curious. How did you feel about Adam Lambert, who came so close to winning?
Fufu487 on 11/18/2010:
I just feel that this is what happens on public voting reality shows. You don't have the professionals making the cut, it's the public. So yes, it IS based on popularity.

Some Thing Is Wrong With The Voting
Posted by on
My wife and I have been viewers of this show since it began. This season it has become obvious that the voting has been skewed so that the unwed mom from Alaska has been kept on the show even though she has the poorest dancing ability. The show never reveals what the actual vote counts are. Is it possible that since she is the daughter of the former governor of Alaska and current darling of the political right, she will be kept on the show until the very end? In the meantime a lot better dancers have been let go.

I have reached the point that I consider this situation being corrupt. Therefore, I will no longer be a fan and viewer of what was once an excellent entertaining show.

It's quite amazing that people think that the show is rigged because who they want voted off isn't being voted off. Maybe more people are voting for certain people to stay?
momsey on 11/11/2010:
I don't see how keeping the daughter of a very polarizing political figure, who happens to be Republican, on a TV show would help anyone out. Haven't you heard that most of Hollywood is liberal and not enamored with Sarah Palin?

I keep seeing this "complaints" and not one of them has given a solid motive for the voting to be fixed so as to keep Bristol Palin. Without motive, you don't have much.

Isn't it possible that the nice young lady has touched the hearts of a lot of people?

And if unwed mothers bother you so much, maybe you should not be watching the show at all, since Brooke Burke, the co-host, is an unwed mom herself!
Crown Jules on 11/11/2010:
I don't watch the show so I don't give a flibbityjibbit who wins, but I did just read an article online this morning that DWTS is supposedly a popular show amongst Republicans. I firmly believe that on most of these competition reality shows, especially the ones that rely on viewer votes, there is some producer manipulation going on. It even says in the fine print of the end credits that producers have a hand in the final results.

It's all about the ratings, my friends. The person that you love to hate always makes it further in the competition than he or she probably should. It gets people talking and, as the saying goes, there is no such thing as bad publicity.
Disaster Worker on 11/11/2010:
Crown, have a problem with Republicans?
Crown Jules on 11/12/2010:
Disaster Worker, what part of my comment would make you think I have a problem with Republicans? The point I was trying to make was that producers on a lot of these shows influence the results and if a the show is popular among Republicans it makes sense they might want to keep those viewers happy by keeping around the daughter of a prominent Republican. If anything it was a dig at the producers for interfering.

Political Judging

This is no longer a dancing show as one of the finalists cannot dance.
You have lost many viewers, me included, by not conducting a fair voting system. This is a favorites(Howe)/political(Palin) show and should be kicked off the air.

A previous viewer. No longer a viewer.

leet60 on 11/17/2010:
I believe that this, and most reality shows are "fixed". It is easily witnessed with shows such as DWTS, American Idol and I even believe Survivor. For the former two, there is NO independent count of the vote tally and viewers are left simply with the producers allegation of how the votes went.

As for Survivor, being a dedicated fan, it becomes obvious that the contestants that will "Sell" the show by their performance are the ones that remain.
momsey on 11/17/2010:
Who's Howe? I don't get that part.

But I think everyone is getting way too upset over an entertainment show. EVERYONE is talking about DWTS and that's exactly what DWTS wants. I bet their ratings are through the roof, despite everyone promising to boycott.

this is probably the same person who made the "voting is fixed" complaint.
Both this user name and the other one were created today
danny54 on 11/10/2010:
Besides phone-in votes, you can vote online. Go to ABC.com and vote there. Same number of votes as you get for phone-in. If you have AT&T for wireless, you can also text.

Don't understand all the hoopla. Seems to me the show is scrambling for "stars" and how it's become more of a popularity contest than a dancing competition.
Anonymous on 11/10/2010:
WHY are there all of these dancing with the star complaints all of a sudden? Its a friggin show people, if you don't like it, don't watch it!

lilydarling on 11/11/2010:
..Or you could move into the 21st century and use a cell phone and text in your vote. No muss, no fuss!
PepperElf on 11/12/2010:
3 complaints all on the same day

makes me wonder if someone was perhaps "multiple voting" here...
Venice09 on 11/12/2010:
Complaints and accusations like this are common in a voting competition when things don't go the way people think they should. It doesn't mean the contest is rigged.

This is a TV show. Why is Brandy so upset and acting like a baby because she got voted off? It is not a show to see the professionals, but to take everday people and watch their dancing improve. Stop badgering Bristol. It is refreshing to see a regular person in the competitino. Derick should keep his mouth shut. He's no prize!!!!!

I don't understand why there's so many complaints about a TV SHOW on this forum. It' getting to me.
ChuhBaca on 11/18/2010:
FuFu487, I agree totally! To me, this seems completely irrelevant to the purpose of My3cents.com
lilydarling on 11/18/2010:
At what point was Brandy "acting like a baby"?
Venice09 on 11/18/2010:
I think Brandy truly felt she had a shot at winning. I think she handled it well. And I love what her partner said about this country and voting. They can both hold their heads up high.

I think television shows are consumer related. It goes hand in hand with commercials after all.
