BAR HARBOR, PENNSYLVANIA -- Stayed here in July 2013 - room had musty odor, but got in late so just went to bed. Tub drain was a bit slow in am but was in a hurry and the rest was working so we headed out. Upon return, there was stuff floating in the toilet, but again in a hurry to get showers and change to meet friends for dinner. Flushed toilet and it overflowed over my daughter's shoes, the floor and into the carpet. She had to hold the valve and stand in the tub while we found help to stop the water running. It would not plunge and they had to turn the water off and go find an auger.

We were unable to shower and had to be let into an empty room to even change for dinner because they were still trying to fix it after 30 minutes. Upon our return, the floor was still wet and the carpet was soaked. Dehumidifier was off and overflowed when tried to empty it. Complained to desk clerk at time of incident and after and was told "Oh, OK." The manager was not available and no effort was made to resolve our complaints.

The next morning, I demanded to speak to the manager who had to be called at home. Never did talk to her and the offer was to take 5% off the bill. Meanwhile, another patron was in the office asking for a plunger - again! Days Inn Guarantee posted on the wall is that EVERYTHING WORKS!! LIES!!! Called corporate and was PROMISED manager would call but since it is independently owned they could not help me. Never did hear from manager and will NEVER stay in a Days Inn again!

Room in general was old with cracking paint, old fixtures, musty and smelly. Furniture was peeling in both the room we were given and the room we were allowed to change in. Staff was foreign students with little or no training that were completely clueless. What kind of desk clerk when you complain just goes "oh, OK" and does NOTHING and offers NOTHING. Expresses NO concern at all?

Rude Manager Lies on You, Room Smell and Bathtub Had a Hole in It

VIRGINIA -- Went to stay in the Days Inn hotel. Got two rooms, one for three nights and the other for two nights. My grandchildren was in the second room. They call me and said the tub had a hole inside, the water was running out to the floor. I and my husband went to look. The tub had an hole in it so they wind up coming inside my room to take a bath and shower. Oh yeah, the address is 6910 midlothian turnpike Richmond VA 23235.

I am a church going person so the right thing to do was call the front desk. I call and told the problem. So the lady at the desk said she can let us shower in another room not can I offer you another room. It also inconvenience us. We was supposed to be at an church convention by nine. Anyway to make a long story short, I ask to speak to a manager. The lady at the desk said he would be there by nine am. The manager was not there cause we went down by nine thirty. I left my number for him to call me by cell. He never call.

That evening when I came in, the same gentleman was there from when we check in. I ask for the manager again, he said, he was not there. I went to my room, the manager calls not friendly at all. He says his name is **. Very nasty and what upset me is he lied on my granddaughter and said there was no hole in the tub. I seen the hole. Also I seen when the man patch up the hole in the tub. I told **, which he spelled his name out to me rudely too, and the night man who check us in was lying on the couch when we came in also.

I told the manager I was going to write a letter. I did call but by the time I call, he call them and told them my granddaughters had the curtains out that's why water was on the floor. The rooms also smells. I would not recommend anyone to stay there cause the manager there is a liar. He had to cover himself but someone need to sneak up on them at night cause the staff supposed to be behind the desk, not lying down, watching TV on the couch. And the manager is a liar. Oh the manager kept saying he was not giving me my money back. I did not want my money back. I just wanted good customer service, something he didn't have.

Not Bad, but a Bit Overpriced

LURAY, VIRGINIA -- I was in town for the wedding of a relative. Luray is a small town so there not a huge selection of hotel/motels to choose from. I went with Days Inn as it seemed to be one of the nicer choices available. Days Inn has been hit or miss for me in my travels, so I wasn't sure what I was going to get. Upon arriving, I noticed that the grounds were very well kept for a motel of this tier. There were literally acres of freshly mowed grass, with flower beds and nicely trimmed bushes. The view of the mountains and surrounding farmland was very scenic as well.

I checked in at the front desk, the lady at the front desk was very pleasant and mentioned she would be at the wedding as well. Upon arriving at my room, I noticed that it was quite warm, the A/C was turned off, so I turned it on and the room began to cool down. The room itself was typical for the most part. A bed, TV, table, chair, etc. It was quite clean and there are only minor signs of wear on the carpet, there was no peeling paint or stains on anything, a good sign.

In the bathroom, I was pleasantly surprised by the fire hose-grade water pressure. If you ever saw the Seinfeld episode regarding black market shower heads, it was much like that. Normally in motel/hotels they have less-than-powerful low-flow shower heads. Not here, You could probably wash your car with the amount of water this thing was pumping out. I suspect that someone may have removed the water restrictor from the shower head, if that's the case, then I thank you sir/ma'am.

The wifi was a bit shaky. You had to log back in through a login screen every time you open new browser. I was using my phone rather than an actual computer, so that may have just been related to that. Also the remote for the TV seemed to work intermittently. The only ice machine in the motel was in the lobby, which was a minor inconvenience, and the wash cloths were quite thin, but that's par for the course with motels like these. The Continental breakfast looked typical, but I ate at a local restaurant instead.

So the place is actually pretty good as far as Days Inns go. However this place runs $97 a night including taxes, and that was a AAA rate. Without the discount it would've been closer to $110 a night, which for a Days Inn is pretty pricey IMHO. This is a $75-$85 a night motel in my estimation. But I guess they can get away with it as there isn't much competition in town, and it is tourist season in Luray.

Customer Service

SEATLLE, WASHINGTON -- I checked into your hotel room on Sat December 31st and left January 2nd and on Sat January 7th. I realized that our camcorder was missing so I phoned the Days Inn, and all I got was a rude employee who said to call back Mon-Fri before 2 pm because that's when the housekeepers will be able to check the lost and found. I asked basic questions like was anyone currently in the room now and if they could check if it was there and all the gentleman kept saying is to call back Mon-Fri before 2 pm, then hung up.

I phoned Mon morning at 6 am and it sounds as if I got the same gentleman and he said it's not here. I explained how the housekeepers would a been the next one in the room and if they found out if the camcorder was there and how I was told to call at this time. He said housekeepers have returned things such as DVD players and laptops before but that it wasn't there. He seemed like he was rushed and didn't want to talk to me or really did look for my item. I asked if room 133 was checked under the desk as it was at the back of the desk under it in a spot that may not have been noticeable to the housekeepers.

I did not appreciate his abruptness and rudeness and especially the way he not once apologized or said he'd look for it. This is not good customer service and I will not want to go back to Days Inn in the future if it's not solved. We all had a great stay but now that no one knows where our camcorder magically went off to, I am not longer impressed. I need to know the whereabouts of our camcorder and would appreciate an apology and a proper look under the desk as we know this is where we accidentally left it. Thanks for your time in this matter and please respond back to me at ** or email **. This camcorder is very important as well as all the tapes in it.

Horrible Service, Rude Staff, Outlandish Prices
By -

BROOKINGS, SOUTH DAKOTA -- On November 25, 2011, my family and I went to Days Inn Brookings for my son's wedding rehearsal dinner. The service and food quality was so awful and the prices were so outlandishly high that I would highly recommend that No One Use This Location (that's Days Inn Brookings) For Any Type Of Event in the future.

First, the company kept changing what it was willing to offer as dinner options after the orders had been placed. Then, before the dinner, there was a question about how to include additional people, but we were never directed to anyone at Days Inn who could help us. Someone was supposed to show up prior to the dinner, but they never did.

The dinner itself was a joke. The teriyaki chicken and tiny steaks were served with baked potatoes and canned beans. The salad consisted of iceberg lettuce and a few carrot shavings. For drinks, we had a choice of ice tea or milk in little plastic dixie-size cups. There was no coffee and no dessert. The room was plain with round tables - absolutely no ambiance whatsoever - and the tables were placed several feet apart so it was impossible for people sitting at different tables to intermingle.

For all of this "grandeur," we paid over $18.00 per person. I realize that in a bigger city, this would be exactly what one might expect. However, this was BROOKINGS, SD! At other establishments within the area, $18.00 buys a much nicer meal. Plus, the cost of this meal was about half of the cost of the entire wedding (not including the cost for renting the hall, which was available for almost two whole days and was huge compared to the little room where the dinner was held). There was also a buffet included at the wedding that served twice as many people and included two complimentary drinks (even alcoholic beverages were free).

The day after the dinner, before the wedding itself, again someone from the hotel was supposed to show up to discuss the event. Again, no one did. When the bride's mother actually sought out a manager to discuss the event and get some details straightened out, she was treated very rudely. Take my advice - if you want your child's wedding to be meaningful for all the right reasons, Do Not Go To Days Inn Brookings.

Days Inn RIPOFF
By -

BINGHAMTON, NEW YORK -- I am a victim of a flood and forced to live at a motel long-term. I have been at the Days Inn 65 Front St., Binghamton, NY and been there six weeks now. And I am extremely disappointed and angry at their lack of advertised services for the following: indoor heated swimming pool, free Internet, free phone calls, room cleaning, Continental breakfast. However to say that they did not deliver the promised services would be an understatement. Space would not allow a full description of what's wrong with this place.

The pool has been broken for a long time although they continue to advertise it as working. The Internet only works in part of the building. The telephones work only sometimes and are in very bad repair. Room cleaning is a joke, that is when they make any attempt at all at cleaning which is rare. The rooms are filthy and include bugs. The so-called Continental breakfast is also a joke because they are almost constantly out of most common items that one would expect. The coffee is often only warm or cold and it's often very stale and old.

In general the entire building is in very bad repair and toilets are constantly backing up and leaking. The parking lot is more like a mine field of potholes and bumps. If you try to complain they try to turn things around and put you on the defensive as a very shallow attempt to justify themselves and their ripoff actions.

At the prices they are charging this place is totally unacceptable. They require advance payment and if you try to get your money back they will not refund. They also try to rip you off with additional "finds" such as $200 if they accuse you of smoking in your room even though you did not do it and they try to get it by fraudulently charging your credit card.

I have never been in a hotel/motel with so many problems apparently they must have a management problem and I am surprised that Days Inn Corporation continues to allow them a franchise it certainly reflects badly on all Days Inn's. I have no intention of ever staying at one again and would have left sooner if they would refund my advance payment which they will not.

Don't Expect to Be Able to Sleep in a Days Inn Room
By -

WISCONSIN DELLS, WISCONSIN -- When you pay for a hotel room, probably the most important thing that you expect is to be able to sleep. If a towel is dirty or there is no hot water - well, you can live with it. You check out the next day and move on. I was on a trip from Wisconsin to Phoenix (about 1,800 miles) and planned to get up early in the morning, 6 am to reach my driving goal.

Days Inn provided me with a room that had a "Smokers Congregation Area" about 15 feet in front of my window. Obviously this facility does not have any rooms for smokers so that they have to leave their non-smoker rooms every 1 or 2 hours to satisfy their urge. Obviously smokers are an ongoing problem for this Days Inn because I had to sign an agreement that I would have to pay a fine for smoking in the room (actually I am a nonsmoker). I have never seen something like that at any other place.

Soon I found out that I would not be able to sleep in this room because of the loud meetings in front of my window. I could actually hear every word of the conversations of the groups of 4 - 7 people. I called reception several times and instead of offering me a different room, it was "It is not going to happen again, we have talked to them."

It happened again and again, until finally at 4 am I was able to sleep. When I asked for some kind of compensation or a refund the next morning it was "We tried our best and smokers have the right to stand anywhere outside, nothing we can do about it..." Corporate would not do anything else than telling me "We have contacted the manager." The manager never got in touch with me. It looks like he does not care at all about the satisfaction of his guests.

Watch Out for Fraudulent Accounting and Corrupt Management
By -

MYSTIC, CONNECTICUT -- To check in I used the walk-in coupon (which does not require advance reservation) from the Roomsavers.com online site. At the check-in (Days Inn, Mystic, Connecticut) I was told that they were switching to a new system and they were having problems. They needed to take the info from my driver's license and a credit card and manually input the data into the new system.

When checking out, I was told their system is out and the only receipt they can give me was on a 2”x2” paper (printed from desk calculator) showing the room charges. It had no logo of the Days Inn to make it look like an official receipt! I had no reason to suspect anything so I said "OK, no problem" and checked out.

However, in few days when my Bank statement arrived, I noticed that they had charged me twice! As per Bank's requirements, I thought I could contact the management and settle the issue. Made several calls, left several messages and no response. Same story every time I called. “Manager just stepped out of the office. He has left for the day. Leave the message and he will call back.” Finally after several more tries; receptionist told me they have no record indicating that I stayed at their place!!

Few days later, got similar input from their corporate office. They also told me that unless I provide the proof of my stay at that hotel on those dates, they cannot refund my money!! Sounds like some kind of fraud that they have no record of me ever staying there and somehow they got hold my credit card, name and address to charge me twice!!! I was forced to dispute these charges with my Bank. They have assured me that they will resolve the issue and not to worry.

Lesson learned from the experience: Insist of official receipt with hotel logo on it! Do not recommend staying at this hotel. P.S. More I think about this incidence, I don't ever remember getting an official receipt in the past! That may be because I always stayed only one night using the ‘Walk-in' coupon from ‘Roomsavers.com' online site. I never ran into this type of problem before because they had never double charged me for the room and I did not have to dispute the charges with my Bank.

This Is Why You Should Not Be Spontaneous!!!

ALBANY, NEW YORK -- We had a reservation all set at Motel 6 in Albany, which was 6 miles away from my daughter's college. Until... My father came with us and he didn't want to go that far (he was a bit cranky - 70 yrs old). I cancelled the reservation, so, they could sell our unneeded room.

My mom found a Days Inn. My dad was okay with that idea. So, my mother checked into the motel and it seemed to be taking forever. I was sent in to see what was taking soooo long. First off, the lady at the front desk had no (smile) expression on her face and secondly there was no eye contact. (This is very important part of customer service at any motel/hotel/inn no matter what).

Third, we went into our room and I had to go to the bathroom. As I was doing my duty, I noticed the tub. The tub didn't look like a housekeeper had touched it... It had hair in the tub on the side of the tub. As I was washing my hands, I noticed the ice bucket and thought great I will go get ice. I finished washing my hands. I picked up the bucket and removed the lid. To my wondering eyes. Yes. The ice bucket and the cover was dirty. I cleaned it. I told my parent where I was going "to get ice" and my father said, "Where's the ice liner?" I told him, "There is no ice liner, this isn't Motel 6" and walked out the door. I came back with some ice and a ginger ale.

We left a hour later to do things with my daughter at her college. We left her and her friend at the college to return to the inn. If we ate at the "Across the Street Pub" for dinner and show we were staying at the Days Inn we got a discount. So that is what we did.

The food at the restaurant was filling and excellent. I highly recommend the restaurant. After dinner, we return to our room. We were exhausted from the two hour drive and the long day, plus, the wonderful food. We retired to our bed to sleep. Surprise, surprise!!! The fire alarm went off at 4:30 am and people sticking their heads out their doors "What's happening?" I have the door open myself. I'm speaking to my parents about getting up and getting out (dad's trying to turn off the alarm) and I'm telling others grab a housecoat and go outside.

I tried to keep them calm. Well, the fire department showed up and cleared it so we could go back in. But, while outside, several of the customers were complaining how every time they stay at this motel something like this happens and they were not going to be staying here anymore.

Days Inn Thompson Rd, Syracuse - Danger

SYRACUSE,, NEW YORK -- Prepaid for room from 6-11-10 through 6-14-10. The room was the dirtiest I have ever seen along with mold and mildew. Will be reporting them to health department shortly. AC did not work properly. Raining one night came into lobby from outside and slipped across the floor, camera fell out of my shirt pocket. No mats, wet floor signs, etc. Rarely saw anyone at the desk. Checked out the next morning and asked about camera. Was told needed to call housekeeping later in the day. Once I arrived home from my flight tried for several days to contact someone about camera. No one found the camera or else no answered the phone.

The best response is that I call Days Inn customer service and got this email back saying: "Thank you for contacting Days Inn Customer Care. We sincerely apologize that your expectations of Days Inn's high standards of guest service were not met. We appreciate the time you took to let us know where we need to improve.

The Days Inn chain is committed to ensuring that good service and quality accommodations are provided by our licensees. Your comments have made us aware of an instance when one of our licensees did not meet a valued customer's expectations. This is to advise you that Days Inn is solely the licensor of the Days Inn trademarks and service marks to independently owned and operated Days Inn guest lodging facilities and is not involved in the day-to-day operations or management of this facility.

While Days Inn does not own, operate or control this facility, we will notify the owner/operator of this facility of your complaint and convey our expectation that the licensee take steps to address your concern. Please direct all further communication to the licensee below. The licensee's contact information is as follows: Dr **, 6609 Thompson Road, Syracuse, NJ 13206. Again, thank you for bringing your concerns to Days Inn's attention."

Shows you just how much Days Inn think of the people who stay in their hotels. Pass the buck to the owner, just as long as they get their money from owner it shows they do not care about anything else. I will never stay at a Days Inn anywhere!!
