Usually I am greeted by an employee taking my payment, always pleasant and courteous. In this case the manager (Arturo [snip]), who had never before taken my payment, simply stared at me without saying a word. Annoyed by this discourtesy, I just stared back at him for a few seconds, then I said to him, "Do you speak?" Then he did.
When I presented my VISA card, he asked for ID. I explained that I had recently lost my billfold with ID. I had received the replacement VISA card but no other replacement cards yet. He insisted that he must have ID. (My VISA card is for debit, not credit. On that date there was slightly under $2,000 in my checking account. The amount of my check was $19.65). I told him that I, with a friend, routinely patronize this store about twice a week and have done so for at least three months. And that I had never been asked for ID!
Still the manager balked, directing my attention to a sign near the register stating that ID will be solicited under certain conditions. I repeated that in approximately 24 previous meals at this store over the last three months, never once had the acting cashier ever asked for ID, nor directed my attention to the sign. I replied, of course, that in any event there was firmly established precedent for my not needing to present ID.
I needed a haircut; maybe that's what offended him.

There's dust and dirt all over the windows and shades. There's things growing in the windows. Food low grade. Service was good. 1 Replies - Latest reply on 06/25/2012Add reply
This was the worst Salad ever it was gross to taste the old they cooked the chicken with. Then you could see the old on the lettuce. This salad made me sick, gave me a stomach ache for the whole weekend. 3 Replies - Latest reply on 06/13/2012Add reply
KAILUA KONA, HAWAII -- I told the cashier I wanted a hamburger with bacon lettuce & tomato & fries to go. Instead I got a BLT about a half an hour later on stale sliced bread with no condiments other than about a tbsp of ketchup. It was so cold (even though I only live 7 minutes from Denny's) it was completely inedible!

ORLANDO, FLORIDA -- The food was great. The restaraunt was either under staffed or the workers were just slow. From the moment I walked in, I stood there for five minutes before a lady came to me to say ill be right with you, then another two before actually being set. The waitress was very kind but in the time for waiting for my meal was only served one cup of coffee and it took 35 minutes to get two pancakes, two eggs, bacon and white toast; in which my toast was forgot about. 4 Replies - Latest reply on 04/17/2012Add reply
NORTH PLATTE,NE, NEBRASKA -- Upon arriving we had to wait 15 mins. To get seated, not to mention a man in front of us, no telling how long he waited. After we finally got seated, drink orders and food taken. While more people are waiting to be seated, the waitresses were standing in the back, chatting, laughing and carrying on. It wasn't that busy, then would have understood why my husband didn't even get a refill on his coffee. There was a lot of wasted time that you are paying for.10 Replies - Latest reply on 03/25/2012Add reply
PORTAGE, INDIANA -- We are very frequent customers at Denny's in Portage, IN. The smoking section is in the far corner of the building but as soon as you come in the doors, you are overcome by the smell of smoke.

We sit in the very front of the restaurant by the door and by the time we leave, I am having a hard time breathing and my clothes reek of cigarette smoke.
Please, Please get with the program and make your facilities all non smoking. I know smokers can get through one meal without a cigarette. The do it all the time at other restaurants.
On 02/10/2012 after placing two orders of grand-slam, the ham was burnt, the sausage was disgusting, and the pancakes were flat and appeared to have been dropped on the floor and picked up and placed on the plate containing black particles of either floor grime or from an unclean grill. Where can I send the photo I took with my cell phone. 6 Replies - Latest reply on 02/12/2012Add reply
Upon entering the Denny's restaurant located on Missouri avenue, in Largo Fl: My daughter and I were hit like a brick with the overwhelming smell of urine and water damage. It only took us 1 minute to walk in and 3.5 seconds to run out in disgust. Denny's has always provided good food and service but this incident has made us re-think this old favorite of ours. 8 Replies - Latest reply on 09/14/2011Add reply
The food at Denny's in my opinion is too greasy. I don"t understand the bacon

Just have not had a good experience there.
My husband & I stopped at Denny's for breakfast this morning. The wait to be seated was long, then we were seated & then the wait really started. No one came to our table. Finally the hostess took our order & brought us semi-warm coffee & took our order. The food arrived 25 minutes later. I asked for some butter for my waffle....it came after I had finished my waffle.

Asked for a refill on the coffee, it came after we were through eating. But the bill came very rapidly.
Just wanted to put up a positive note. Had a waiter who was whizzing around at the speed of light, tried a different combo (that I enjoyed very much), and specifically had a great morning. The place was hopping, but the entire staff was smiling, pleasant and trying very hard to accommodate the morning rush.

I am a former manager and general manager of Denny's I started 23 years ago with the corporate store and over the years they started franchising and it became such a stressful situation to try and stay ... read full review12 Replies - Latest reply on 02/28/2011
I have eaten at several Denny's restaurants in and around the San Gabriel Valley. It is my estimate that I get excellent service 80% of the time. It is that 20% of poor service that bothers me. With more than 30 years in the restaurant business, I can confidently state that this is the fault of the person with the franchise. What the owner of the store tells the general manager how to operate the restaurant is how the restaurant is operated. This is a corporate problem. Denny's corporation does not look after their 1500 stores with any degree of efficiency. Each store's customer service and cleanliness will depend upon the franchisee.

A note: I had a friend that worked briefly at the Denny's in Big Bear a few years and she told me that an employee was injured and rather than allow the employee to receive Worker's Compensation, the worker was fired. The General manager (with the franchisee's approval) was hiring illegal aliens with false identification. Perhaps this restaurant continues this practice and maybe an official agency should look into this.
I waited 50 minutes for them to knock up 2 eggs with hash browns. The the potatoes arrived burnt and the eggs cold. There was not even anyone there to collect the money when I left. Everyone was rushing around like farts in a trance and nothing was getting done. No organisation catostrophic.

Avoid at all costs.
FAIRPORT, NEW YORK -- Went to breakfast at Denny's in Perinton Hills Mall today October 23rd at 11:am this morning. We were a party of four. There were a great may people there so we were prepared to be patient with our order. We would have had to have the patience of Job, however as it took 1 hour and twenty minutes to receive our order. When it did come, we were ready to throw rose petals at the servers feet. He had repeatedly assured us that the order would be filled soon. Apparently the cook staff simply could not handle the volume of orders placed at that hour of the morning. To add insult to injury, when we received our food, it was cold and mine was inedible. We were asked if we would like something else but not wanting to spend the rest of the day there, I declined. They did remove my meal(if you could call it that) from the bill. The manager was very solicitous but apparently does not know how to hire dependable employees as he admitted there was trouble in the kitchen. So unless you like cold coffee and have lots of leisure time to waste, DO NOT BOTHER with this restaurant during peak times. It will we both a waste of time and money!

CAMPBELL, CALIFORNIA -- This has been the second worse service I've ever had at a restaurant of any kind. The other "bad" experience was about a month ago at this same location. How can someone seat you and wait an hour to take the order? Ya, I've got a laptop pc with me (using it now to write this) and I look like I'm entertained, but do they not want to make any money? Next I flag down a waitress and order onion rings. Twenty-five minutes later a different waitress comes over to verify what I ordered so she can bring it to me. She just "wanted to be sure the rings were mine". Duh! Next I order a "Allnighter Sampler" plate. It takes forever to get to me and it is pure crap. Nothing else to say - "PURE CRAP". Well these are the kind of things that prove we've got to be nearing the freaking end of the world. I will not tip here tonight at all. I shouldn't even have to pay.5 Replies - Latest reply on 07/05/2010Add reply
MOUNT VERNON, WASHINGTON -- I took my family there about a year ago and everything looked and tasted fine. It was kinda late but the service was ok. Then we tried it again last weekend. The parking lot was trashed with cigarette butts and floating garbage. But it was dark, and I didn't expect anyone to go out and clean at night. There were 3 or 4 workers outside smoking, and that is what it takes to run night shift in the valley. We could believe we were asked to pick a seat, then realize most of the tables were dirty or had dishes and glasses. There wasn't much of a selection. We asked to sit where there a lot of clean tables, but were asked to wait while a table was cleaned. Then our waitress sat us and left us for rolling silverware and talking with the guys at the counter instead of cleaning tables or getting us silverware or water. She served us with a smile when she took our order, and we got our drinks pretty quickly. But that was the last we saw of her til after we had our food mostly eaten. She came back smelling of cigarettes and sweat, and asked us to pay our bill. The bathrooms are just as rude. We filled out comment cards, but then we heard similar stories from friends and coworkers. We all like the menu, but Shari's is always open just a couple miles away. And the service don't smell like cigarettes and drugs.3 Replies - Latest reply on 06/01/2010Add reply
