Devine Aircraft & Engine Problems (Pirep)
Posted by Mark, VNY on 05/09/2007
DEVINE, TEXAS -- I had my airplane engine overhauled and my interior redone at this shop in Devine Texas. I have had numerous problems arise from the work. IE: Important engine components not reinstalled; Alternator almost fell off, had to be redone locally; Rear seat foam not replaced (as per the shop's written proposal); Door frames not repainted (as per shop's written proposal); New exhaust pipes probe installed such that it makes that spark plug removal impossible; Oil pressure sensor broken by shop, and replaced with a set screw; Engine timing improperly set;

The owner of the shop, [name removed] did pay for half of the timing reset cost ($200.), but has ignored repeated attempts to rectify/resolve any of the other issues. I have sent him photographic documentation of my claims. I cant even get the courtesy of a reply. I paid over $21000 for the work. And in excess of $3000 to have problems resolved here locally. All work carried a warranty for workmanship/materials for one year. Plane is based in SoCal. I have copies of all correspondence and pictures regarding this matter.

This is terrible. A plane is very serious stuff as it could crash. Can you report these bums to the FAA?

Im not too sure about planes. Maybe Pirate can help. He seems to know everything. He may have been a pilot too. Pilotwithparrot.

Mark I'm a Air Force F-16 pilot and also a Piper Lancer owner. I would report this turkey to the FAA for not complying with the regulations for aircraft maintainence. Furthermore, I would haul this guy into civil court for the money your out since your airplanes airworthiness certificate isn't good at this point until the repairs are made.

I have one question, was all this maintainence being done due to AD directives from the FAA?

To Ejack,
I wrote the comments re Devine Aircraft. The work was on my Arrow, which was at TBO. No AD's or SB's were involved. Just an overhaul with all new components except the case and crank. The FAA has no complaint protocol that I can find, re shops. I later found out that this isnt even an auth repair station. He operates under his A&P cert, (not even an IA). I used that shop cause they were capable of doing the removal and reinstall as well. I would be happy to share picts and correspondence if you or others are interested. I just basically wanted to warn all others so they will be well informed when making a decision.
PS: How do you 'lower' yourself to drive a PA32 after the F-16???

The F-16 is my office while the Lancer is my relaxation. I won't deny...I love my office! :)

Mark...on my plane..nobody touches it unless they are properly creditialed as an IA. I might pay more but I know its done right. By the way...I love flying the Arrow as well.

Please send me the pictures that you have. I would love to see your airplane along with the tear down they did. I will ask and look around to see if I can find somewhere where you can file a complaint on this guy. I find it very, very disturbing. Fly safely!

Ejack, Just curious- -whats the diff betw a Lance and a Lancer? Speed mods?
Posted by ejack053824 on 2007-05-13:
Speed mods is one difference and the other is the Lancer has a speed brake due to the increase horsepower while the Lance doesn't.

I had my io540 rebuilt by Devine and had a few problems such as a cylinder going bad. Devine said they only assemble motors and the parts that were rebuilt are the responsibility of the rebuild. Then I had a thru bolt break and he said he's not responsible for that either stay clear of this bunch.

There were a few problems out in devine. Lately there has been some changes made in management and personnel. The engine shop, Devine Air Inc. is now defunct. The guy took deposits and did not complete the work. They had a bad rep. There is a fantastic engine shop located there now. They have over 30 years experience in engine overhauls and airframe repairs. There are doing annuals and conformity inspections. The name of the shop is Dragon Airmotive. the website is dragonairmotive.com. I think you would be happy with the service you get there now.

There are still problems out at Devine airport. Not the place to trust or do business with even today. Learn the truth by checking claims carefully.

Nice to know jws is promoting his own company. The "fantastic " engine shop.?!!......
my advise: don't believe claims. Stay clear of this bunch. No honesty or integrity.
