Delivery costs more than item
By -

My wife and I tried to purchase a gun safe for our daughter, who is married to a soldier, in Tennessee. The listed price was $138.98. We are in Virginia. We tried to buy it on-line but the delivery was more than the item. So, we tried to buy it on-line and have my son-in-law pick it up. They would not do that. Then they made the suggestion that we buy it in Virginia and have them pick it up from the store in Tennessee. This did not work either. Each time we tried to come up with another option, their "rules" would not allow it. So, we are through with Dick's. If you shop on-line with Dick's be aware of hidden costs and inflexible rules.

Don't Get Ripped Off Shopping Here

Dick's has a reward program that for every so much you purchase, you receive points that eventually turn into dollars. Sounds like a good deal right? No! First, I had a certificate worth $20 and when I checked out, they did not give me the whole amount and the clerk said she could not fix it. It was a $20 certificate and they gave me $19.50. Why is that? Then, the way the program works, if you purchase two items, the purchase is split between the items rather than taken off the total purchase. If you purchase something then have to return it for ANY reason, you lose your reward dollars.

I recently purchased two items, each was $100, for a total of $200. I had a $20 reward certificate so they took $10 off each item. One of the items was defective. When I returned it to the store, they did not have the same item so I could not exchange it. The store would not let me get a different brand, or place an order online to use the dollars on the original purchase. All they would do is return the item and it ate my reward dollars. The store told me to call the customer service number and complain. I did and they just said, "sorry, that is our policy".

What a terrible policy! I could have spent all $20 on socks and been better off. In these days of bad economic times, I will never purchase another item from Dick's. The name says everything about the store!

Unprofessional Customer "Service" in Broomfield, CO

BROOMFIELD, COLORADO -- When asked by a store clerk, if he could help us, we explained that we were looking to purchase a child's ski bib. Without ever moving from his comfy position behind the counter, he quickly replied that they didn't carry those. Knowing that we had seen children's ski bibs in other Dick's Sporting Goods locations, we mentioned this to him, and he became irritated and dismissed us to look on our own.

As we were looking, another employee asked what we needed and promptly guided us to a large rack full of exactly what we're looking for 20 feet from where the original clerk, was standing! The worst part is when it was time to pay out, ** was the closest clerk available to assist us. He was smug when he saw what we were buying, and then turned to my children and announced that he hoped they were going to wear helmets when skiing because, and I quote, "Skiing is a dangerous sport, and people get killed everyday doing it." I was shocked! Some people are not meant to work with the public, and ** from the Broomfield, CO Dick's Sporting Goods is definitely one of them!

Dick's Sporting Goods Web "NO SALES"
By -

TAMPA, FLORIDA -- On Feb. 2nd 2009 I ordered the Iron Gym Xtreme from the Dick's sporting goods website. The status said "In-Stock" and "Ships in 4 to 5 Days". On the third I get an email saying that they actually don't have it in stock and that the item was back ordered. I contacted the customer service department and they told me that it would take them 5 days to get this item and they would ship it as soon as they received it. A week later on Feb. 9th, I get a call from Dick's on my cell phone telling me that they will be shipping my item in 4 to 5 days... huh... sounds familiar...

Another week later, on the 16th, I get an email telling me that they still haven't received my item, they don't know when they will receive it and they can't tell me when it will be shipped but they will keep my order in their system. WTF?

This is the absolute worst online shopping experience that I have ever had... Most companies when they don't have an item in stock will disable the order feature on that item and not let you order it online. This company actually wastes your time by allowing you to order it and then dragging you along for weeks. I will NEVER buy from their site again. Actually if I can help it I will not go to their stores either... Dick's sporting goods is the worst place to shop ever!!!

Lack of Service and Concern

I purchased 400.00 worth of gift cards for this store. When trying to use them online one card would not be accepted by Dicks. Calling customer service got me excuses and finally a promise to replace it in a couple of weeks. The order which was being made online could not be made via phone as according to the gentleman the on-line customer service did not have access to anything. They have my money and I have perhaps a worthless piece of plastic. This is not a company to do business with as customer service means little to them.

Gift Card Scam
By -

I purchased two pairs of sneakers at Dick's online site. At checkout step 1 asks if you would like to redeem a gift card - I had one for $50 to use. Step 2 asks for a credit card for the remainder. I liked one pair of the sneakers but not the other.

On accepting my return Dick's credited $50 to my gift card and kept my credit card money. The whole point of my purchase was to redeem the gift card. They claim they return money in the order it is paid but you have no choice in the order you pay. This is a huge scam to get you to spend money over and over with them. My credit card company said they cannot help in a dispute because it's technically a gift card issue. DO NOT SHOP AT DICK'S.

Fraud - Used Product At Full Price
By -

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA -- I recently purchased a treadmill from Dick's at full price, only for them to deliver me a used floor model, and try to pass it off as new. The delivery men slipped up and told me it was the floor model. They went further to say that this was not the first time this had happened. They refused to take back the used treadmill which had now been set up in my bedroom saying they had other deliveries and no room on their truck. After contacting the store I was told that it was on the receipt to deliver a floor model. I stated that I had a copy of that order and nowhere on it does it say that, and pointed out that I paid full price.

The manager's story then changed to say that the delivery men requested a floor model. It was agreed that for my inconvenience I was to choose another treadmill of my liking in replacement at no extra cost to me. When I went into the store. The manager changed his mind and told me he would get fired if he did that and offered me only one other model. When I became upset that they had encouraged me to come to the store under false pretenses, I was told to leave and never come back. They have not sent anyone to pick up their used treadmill and have not returned my money.

Horrible Customer Service

WARNER ROBINS, GEORGIA -- I've been going back and forth with Dick's Sporting Goods for weeks trying to get a bat that we've ordered and paid for. We ordered a youth baseball bat but received a fast pitch soft ball bat. Each different customer representative that we've spoken to has given me a different story: Either the bats out of stock, or they sent the wrong one and won't send the right one until we return the wrong bat, yet they want me to PAY to return the bat. They talk around the problem and refuse to answer my questions directly.

When I told them to cancel the order and return my money, they said that it wasn't possible until we return the bat that they wrongfully sent me. I was told that I'd eventually get the bat and if I couldn't wait, go to one of their retail stores and buy a new one. I told a manager how unsatisfied I was, and he offered to give me 15% off my next order of 150.00 or less. Um, no thanks, because I will not be ordering anything from Dick's Sporting Goods. The bats that they sell are excellent, but their customer service is ridiculous.

Misleading/Deceptive Advertising in Flyer!
By -

COCKEYSVILLE, MARYLAND -- In the Sunday newspaper of the Baltimore Sun there was a flyer from Dick's sporting goods, for a rebate of 5.00 per box of Remington core-lokt ammo and nowhere in the flyer does it mention a limit. They throw an unreadable photocopy of the rebate form in your bag, it is not until you get home and look up the rebate on Remington's website do you find there is a limit of 2 boxes per name and household. We bought 6 boxes, now we are being told that 4 of these boxes are not included in the rebate. Called Dick's and was told they do not have to put the limit on the flyer... Sounds misleading to me!

Ruined my son's Christmas...
By -

The absolute worst online experience (or purchasing experience in general) I have EVER had... I ordered a custom jersey for my son the day after Thanksgiving. It's the only thing on his list that he has gotten so excited about that he talks about it every day. The website said it would ship in 6 to 8 days. The website order status page didn't work half of the time and the other half of the time, the item was listed as "in stock." I called the toll free number... The automated system told me that it was "being processed."

I didn't know where in the hell it was in the process so I finally (after waiting on hold for a half hour) talked to someone in customer service who couldn't tell me anything either. This went on for 4 days in a row, each time I was assured that I would get the jersey in time for Christmas. On the 5th day (mind you, this was about 2 weeks from the time I ordered it), I got an email from them saying: "We regret to inform you that we are unable to complete your order. The item is not available." Are you kidding me?

I called cust. service again and they blamed it on Reebok for not informing them that the item wasn't in stock. I will never do business with Dick's (as they sure live up to their name) or Reebok again. Neither would do anything for me for screwing my kid out of his Christmas gift and they won't return requests for replies when you send a message to customer service from their sites. I can't stress enough how disgusted I am with this horrible organization.
