File your case in federal court and collect your $1000 or actual monetary damages you can document.

The tough part will be a judges interpretation of "permissible purpose". These laws always leave a way out for corporate lawyers.

And "...shall be liable to the consumer reporting agency..." could also mean you, the victim, does not get the money the reporting agency gets it. You must sue the reporting agency (Experian, TransUnion, Equifax) to get it.

Interest fees on what?

Without further details, I can only assume you are mistaken and the report was not run illegally. I'm guessing it was a soft pull and you have an account that they are now in charge of collecting. Whether they now own the account or are collecting still for the original creditor, they have every legal right to pull the report. You gave them permission when you applied for the credit line/ loan.

What's the backstory here? How did your contact with this company start? Did you have previous dealings with them or a company they're affiliated with?

Slim hit the nail right on the head. If this company is a collection agency, they have every right to run your credit, so they know what they are dealing with. If it is someone you contacted to handle your debts, they also have the right to run your credit. You have provided no information at all to indicate why you believe that they violated any laws.

The collection agency left a message saying they filing a small claims action against me. The number they called me from was Private #. They did not say who they were? They violated the law.
