BARCELONA -- WARNING: Do not buy from eDreams.net

This is my experience early 2012 with purchasing airfare from eDreams.com. In late Jan. 2012 I bought 2 airline tickets from Venice to Santorini.

1) eDreams was knowingly selling tickets incorporating flights by an airline that was not available (probably already in bankruptcy). Here's why I believe this: One of the 2 itinerary emails they sent after I bought the tickets had a vague link at the bottom about [FILL IN EXACT VERBAGE HERE], that my travel companion noticed 3/17. So from the web page that brought up that shows the flight unavailable--from what seems like the 1st day I bought it--they knew this itinerary was invalid and never alerted me. This caused my attempt to re-buy comparable tickets (from another co.) last minute to cost over $800 each!

2) Instead of clearly and immediately alerting me that the flight I bought was immediately not available (or just omitting all flights by Malev in their system--common sense!) and that I should cancel that order and re-buy tickets, they said nothing. It took my emailing them for more info on my flights on March 17th to find out that.

3) In my opinion, due to #3 above, the customer service oriented response should have been for eDreams to have let me choose a comparable flight at their site and give those tickets to me in lieu of the void ones for no service fee and not charge me the difference between what I originally paid and the cost of the replacement tickets. They would not do that.

4) I could not afford last minute prices for comparable tickets, so I had to drop the Santorini part of my trip--what a major disappointment and waste of a lot of time, research, and planning…not to mention the cancellation fee I owe the hotel.

eDreams' solution was for me to just buy new tickets at full price and they said they're working with the bankrupt airline to check on refunds and hoped to have those to all of us affected in a few months.

This is terrible customer service. Vague emails, sitting on urgent information, offering no reasonable solution…

Although eDreams.com appears to have most inter-country international airfare at lower costs versus other carriers, but I would advise any travelers to never buy from them.

This airline was in distress but still flying until the Hungarian Government declined to give them emergency funds and the Prime Minister announced they were grounding all planes on Feb 3, 2012.

Therefore, I don't see what eDreams did wrong. I think you were the victim of very unfortunate timing. If the airline was still flying in January, tickets would continue to be issued. That is what kept the company in business, until it ultimately failed.
