Bait & Switch & Horrible Customer Service

FALL RIVER, MASSACHUSETTS -- Empire Hyundai is horrible!!! No one should ever go there!!!

I went in to take a look at a Hyundai Elantra Touring. I knew exactly what I wanted and how much I wanted to pay for it. I had financing through my credit union, but they told me they could at least match it. They took all my information and ran my credit. We eventually worked a month term and amount that I was OK with, so agreed to their financing, signed the paperwork and left. 4 days later I got a call the salesperson to come in and sign some paperwork. I asked what paperwork and he had no idea and wouldn't ask about it. I went in and was told that they couldn't get the deal they had worked out for me -- when I'm dealing with a company that offers their own financing and they run my credit, this should NEVER happen. They came back and increase my monthly payments by $50 a month. I couldn't afford that increase, and didn't want to pay that. So I was given 2 options - get my own financing (which I had told them I had from the beginning, but they swore they'd beat it and showed me paperwork to prove it) or return the car. So, they had already sold my trade-in to an independent dealer, so that was long gone. I was planning to return the car, but I got back in touch with my CU and worked the deal I had originally been promised by Empire.

My CU paid them immediately - the Tues after the Thursday I went in. It's been 4 weeks and they still haven't paid off my trade-in loan (that was with Hyundai). Now I have Hyundai Motor Finance calling me every few hours looking for the money and I have no info. I've called the finance manager at Empire Hyundai 5 times over the past 3 weeks and he hasn't returned any of my calls. So, now they're wrecking my near excellent credit because they aren't doing their part by paying off the loan they were paid to do 6 weeks earlier.

Empire Hyundai also registered my car. It's been 6 weeks and still no registration. After 3 weeks I was called to say that it was being processed (but they had no info on my Hyundai loan payoff). 2 weeks later I got another call saying it was done and to come pick it up. Since the dealership is 25 minutes away I asked that they mail it to me, and they agreed to. So now, another week later I called the finance manager again (who ducked my call) about the pay-off and also left a message about where my registration was and the receptionist told me it's sitting there waiting for me. Since I have no proof of the VIN I'm 2 weeks away from my insurance carrier canceling me. This is ridiculous. If you tell me you're literally putting something in the mail - DO IT!

I've had a horrible experience with this dealership. I bought my previous Hyundai in NY from Fuccillo Hyundai and they were fantastic! I have sent 4 complaints to Hyundai about Empire Hyundai and haven't even received acknowledgement of them.

I'm frustrated and annoyed and I hope no one else ever uses them and has to deal with any of this!!!

Stay away from Empire Hyundai!!!

Not At All Satisfied With Empire Hyundai

FALL RIVER, MASSACHUSETTS -- When I went to look at a vehicle at empire Hyundai they didn't have the 2013 Accent they were advertising in the paper, the sales representative started showing me 2014 Accents which was a little more I was debating whether I still would purchase one at this dealership and with intentions to go to another dealership to meet my needs.

I was planning to leave with my personal vehicle the manager and the sales representative kept insisting that I take the 2014 Accent home I kept telling them no they still was insisting that I do. When I had the vehicle it snowed sat and couldn't drive in the snow. Sunday I went to rte. 44 Hyundai and basically found what I wanted for my price. Monday morning I went to empire Hyundai approx. 9am to return there vehicle and get mine. I told them I was not there to haggle any prices just wanted my vehicle and I wanted to leave.

They gave me a run around told me someone will be with me shortly that this person was in a meeting and that this person was with a customer needless to say I did not get out of there until after 1pm. I was ready to call the police by this time. Empire Hyundai never gave my $150.00 back and now I'm going to speak to the BBB as soon as today 12/17/13

FALL RIVER, MASSACHUSETTS -- Purchased a 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse. Made me promises about repairs on the vehicle nothing but liars. Service is very unprofessional would not recommend this place to anyone.

FALL RIVER, MASSACHUSETTS -- I went to Empire Hyundai to purchase a car on 7/7-was looking at a 2007 Elantra-the Sales person took me and my daughter for a test drive. Then he came in and said the car was 23900.00-told him I didn't want to pay that much-after going back and forth-my daughter and I got up and went to her car-the salesman and the manager followed us to my daughter's car and said they would give to me for 16500.00 with payments at 292.00 per month-so we went back in since he reminded me he had my blank check.

At this time we met with the Credit manager-filling out paper-when we questioned the 23900.00 was on the paper work-he said not to worry-that nothing was approved by the bank yet and I will have to sign more papers when the loan was approved. Well dumb me went home with the car and spoke to my brother who told me to bring the car back-I did this on Sunday 7/8-spoke with the credit manager and told him I did not want the car and would like my deposit back-he said I couldn't do that and that I had to speak to the manager-when questioning the Credit manager regarding the 23900.00 price he said I was looking at the wrong info and proceed to print up a new document with the 16500.00 and showed me this and said I would be paying around 8000.00 in finance charges. He said normal practice is to double the price so they can make a profit.

We then got taken to another office to speak to the manager who told me I wasn't understanding the info-I didn't even have a sticker on the window with any info.-I proceeded to tell him I would not take the car and got up to leave-this person told me that I could not leave the car-it was my property and would have the car towed to my house-when he saw I was still leaving proceeded to tell me he would call the police on me.

Today I was called by a Mr.Ramos who said in was in charge of customer service and said since my file was on his desk that I had a problem-I proceeded to explain what had happened and he gave a story saying the 23900.00 had something to do with having a trade and that's how they balanced things out to make money-I informed him I did not have a trade.

Mr. Ramos proceeded in telling me they were selling me the car for 15800.00-I told him I didn't want the car and he proceeded to tell me I had to go back and sign more papers so they could sell the car to someone else and without me signing they could only sell the car as used.

At this point I don't care what they do with the car as long as I don't have to deal with them.

If you have to sign more papers you do not own the car!!! Get a lawyer real quick if you really want to get out of the deal. Also, so what if they had a blank check of yours. If they filled it out and tried to cash it they would go to jail.

Foggy, you may be wrong. In many jurisdictions, once a customer takes a car off the lot, financed or not, they own the vehicle. However, this person does need a lawyer real quick. When are consumers going to learn to not leave car dealerships until all documents are completed, in terms they have agreed to. This person deserves some blame for leaving with the car without all the proper documentation signed, and will probably have to "buy" their way out of this deal.

I did some research on the 2007 Elantra and the price is anywhere from $13-$17K from what I could find, no where close to the $23,900 you were being quoted. In the future, before you go to any dealership, do your homework about the model of car you are interested in, know how much you can afford and set the ground rules with the salesman right up front - if they push you for more, leave and take your business elsewhere.

Warning Sign#1: The MSRP and invoice is about 1K, even with dealers’ kickbacks, you should not see 6K difference between asking and offering price.
Warning Sign#2: Bank base loan on the amount you signed. You should have not signed the loan paper with the wrong loan amount. You are legally responsible for the bank loan you signed.
Warning Sign#3: You should have research the car online/offline and found no factory install options or trim level will make this car $24K.
The only way you can get out of this one is take them to court.
Dealerships cannot take back the car because once the car is registered under your name via DMV, it is now an used car. It does not matter you put 1 or 100 miles on it. They cannot sell it legally as new because it was registered via DMV.

NEVER sign anything you don't understand or agree with. If they want your business, they will explain it until you understand and will print up new agreements with the proper numbers before you sign.

I have learned a good deal with this-they had to take the car back-I called channel 12 news, I also contacted the AG in mass-the Better Business Bureau, and the federal trade commission-when I brought the car back on Sunday-it was not in my name with a bank or the motor vehicle dept.-by-the way I also have to put a complaint in with the DMV-it seems that they are none to do this -last person just in April or May got 3000.00 added to the purchase price without her knowledge. The car I had didn't even have a invoice sticker on it. I have already done research-no my prices -have checked with the BBB on 2 other dealers I am going to.
Channel 12 told me if they didn't stop calling me-I could have gotten them with harrasement-they didn't stop calling me yesterday.

You know what amuses me about these Empire Hyundai complaints? Everyone in SE Mass and RI KNOWS this place is a snake pit, that they are rude, obnoxious, and out to fleece the customer for everything they can. Complaints have been posted online about this place for YEARS - and yet people still go there, still get taken for a ride, and nothing about their business practices ever changes. I was stupid enough to wander onto their lot in October 2005 and went through all of this - AND I documented the experience online. Yet here we are, still reading complaints about Empire. What a joke - kind of like their employees.

Misleading And Rude

FALL RIVER, MASSACHUSETTS -- I recently bought a car from empire Hyundai. I agreed to the price of 15775 and a monthly payment of 325 a month. When me and my fiance went to do the fiance papers I thought I was signing for 15775. The guy told us that since my interest rate went up to points my payment went to 349 and since it went up he was going to throw in an extended warranty and gap insurance for nothing. So we agreed. I was supposed to be on the loan with my fiance and then refinance it and take him off. When he went to go get a loan somewhere else for something. Come to find out that he is the only one on the loan and that I got charged 18,775 for the car so I ended up financing 21,007 for a car that's only 14,000 brand new. When he confronted the people at the dealership they called me a liar and told me I didn't know what I was talking about and that after 6 months it would then show up on my credit.

I made a formal complaint to Hyundai and I called and left a message on ricks vm ( the president ) someone called on his behalf and talked to my fiance and told him that he must have selected hearing and selected memory and he only heard what he wanted to here and was calling him stupid. How on earth is this a way to conduct business. This is very unprofessional. How do they expect to get returning customers. Do not buy a car from this dealership they will screw you over!!!!!

They might very well have isrepresented/lied about the purchase price and whose name was on the loan...however, ultimately YOU are to blame. It was your purchase, your car, your name, your money and your eyes and hand reading what you signed. Complaining that you signed something you didn't clearly read is absurd.

Never trust what a car dealer says. Always double check numbers and terms before you sign. Actually, this goes with any transaction. You have to protect your own interests.

Car salesmen...real estate agents... they are all the same... NOT YOUR FRIEND. Review everything and assume they are trying to get every dollar out of you they can... that way you won't allow yourself to miss a detail.

Yeah - sheisty practices are common place here. I made a deal on one car there, then was called back in and told I had to "switch" vehicles to stay on my target numbers for financing. The 2nd vehicle was older with more miles - and it took HOURS before anyone would give me a price. Literally - I kept asking and did not have numbers until I was sitting in front of the purchase and sales agreement where the car was top dollar priced, significantly more than the 1st deal, and my interest rate was 3 points higher than the original deal bringing my payments close to $80 more monthly. I was appalled and had to argue that this was not a fair agreement. I was met with hostility for questioning the process. Hmmm

when you finance a car you automatically end up paying more than the sticker value, so a $15775 car financed over 5 years very well could cost $18775. If you are financing you need to know not just monthly payments, but what the total is if you only make monthly payments. Next time do your research and know what to ask, they only tell you monthly payments because that is what most people focus on.

Just A Great Experience

FALL RIVER, MASSACHUSETTS -- Went to store to purchase a new Hyundai our credit was very good but our friends was bad from a divorce. we got a super deal and our friend obtained financing when she couldn't get a car so many places.

Good job empire would send everyone I know to you guys. Keep up the good work.
