SEATTLE, WASHINGTON -- I rented a car and declined the rental insurance plus told them I would fill up the tank. I drove from the airport to the hotel and parked. The next day I had a warning "low tire pressure". I called their "Roadside Repair". Their person told me to take the car to a local Firestone. After waiting several hours, Firestone told me the car had 2 bad tires. One could be patched, the other could not. I called Roadside back; they told me it was my problem. They would not send someone for the car. They would not authorize any repairs. Being afraid to even drive the car back to the airport I had no other choice other than to repair/replace the tires. They essentially abandoned me in an unfamiliar city with their poorly maintained car.

Overcharged, incorrect receipt

BURBANK, CALIFORNIA -- After booking through Priceline, I was charged $255 for the vehicle (including taxes) plus $88 for insurance. Upon arrival in Burbank, I agreed to upgrade my insurance coverage, buy a tank of gas, and add a second driver. I was shown the invoice and told that I would only be charged for the ADD-ONS BEYOND what I had paid for through Priceline. When given the invoice, the clerk showed me that I had been credited with paying $313.89 (I had paid $343 through Priceline and knew they had to make something) and that I would owe $191.06 for the upgrades. I agreed to this. However, I have been charged $313.89 through Fox on top of the $343 through Priceline. I have talked to both companies at length with no resolution and have now filed disputes with my credit card company. DO NOT USE 3RD PARTY BOOKING COMPANIES, AND STICK WITH WELL KNOW RENTAL CAR COMPANIES. I DEFINITELY SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER!!

The Fox Agent (Jessica) Deceived Me and Outright Lied to Me and Up Sold Me to a Vehicle That I Did Not Even Want

ORLANDO, FLORIDA -- I had a confirmed booking in writing for an intermediate vehicle (Corolla) at $ 233.00 US all in... The agent (Jessica) entered her information and came up with a price in excess of $ 900.00. I pointed out the obvious difference and requested a correction, which she proceeded to do only to come up with her same price of $ 900 plus US. After several additional miscalculations, she came up with a Price of $ 452.00. I again pointed out that this was too high, but she explained that this amount included the deposit and reflected the Canadian exchange difference.

By this time I was getting frustrated (No doubt this is part of their strategy) and the numbers appeared reasonable, so I signed off and went my way. I looked at my contract a couple of days later only to discover she had overcharged me for an upsell to a small SUV which is the vehicle I received, by $ 177.24 US. During our conversation, no mention was ever made of an upsell to a different vehicle, in fact I would have preferred my original choice of a Corolla or similar. The agent intentionally lied to me and deceived me into signing off on this so-called upsell. They are scams, liars and thieves and should not be licensed for business.

Eighreen months of hassles (so far)

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA -- Eighteen months after renting from Fox Rent A Car in Las Vegas I am still being hassled by them -- turned over for collection multiple times -- for a minor accident where another guy ran into the back of me while I was stopped at a light. That guy was ticketed by the cops and his insurance company paid for all of the (very minor) damages to the Fox vehicle. The problem -- in addition to being charged for an extra day after proving to Fox that I had returned the car as contracted -- is that Fox plays a long term game trolling for "administrative fees", (for which they provide no documentation other than their claim there were such fees). For obvious reasons, no insurance company sees any reason to pay these fees. Hence the fees fall back on the Fox customer. I've had to file complaints with the Attorney General in North Carolina (where Fox's "damage recovery" operation is "headquartered") and am now moving to file claims against them with the Las Vegas Better Business Bureau (an overwhelmed bunch of folks, I'm guessing) and the Nevada AG. Fox BTW refused to adjust the extra-day overcharge even after being contacted by American Express. And as I say, the never offered any proof that I returned the car a day late. I've told this story to friends so many times it's like a tired stand-up comedy routine. Fox could not create a worse client experience if they tried, which I think thy did. All in all, a remarkably sketchy company.

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS -- Booked a flight and rented a car for my elderly mother to travel to San Antonio. All looked good and they didn't have the car we reserved when she arrived. Ok - they upgraded her at no cost. That was the good part. Goes downhill from there. They sold her every type of insurance, road-side assistance, etc. that totaled over $120 more for the 2 1/2 days she had the vehicle. The $49 rental turned into $179 for 2 1/2 days. I asked them how they could do that to an older person and she said, "well, the salespeople don't ask if you already have insurance. That's not our job." WOW. Scamming elderly people however is. And using the word "salespeople" was very telling. Not agents. Not employees. SALESPEOPLE. Every other car rental place we've rented from ASKS if you have current insurance. My mother is 78 years old and didn't know that her current insurance would have covered all of that. I went through a few more scenarios and all I was told was, "well, she signed the papers." I guess she's right. When you can scam extra money out of someone, especially someone on a fixed income, then that doesn't say much for your company. Especially with no offer to even correct part of the amount. Unfortunately, now my mom is stuck with paying the extra. Told them we'd never do business with them again. I guess now the lady at Fox knows that.

Extremely Poor Customer Service That Costed Us Our Vacation And A Lot Of Money.

PHOENIX, ARIZONA -- If only I had read reviews about Fox Rent a Car before I booked it. We had a serious situation where the cheap key broke off in the trunk lock. As Fox had not provided us with two keys, which is standard. We were locked out of the vehicle with our luggage inside. After numerous phone calls to their customer service and their roadside assistance and being put on hold for 40 minutes each time... they never answered. We got a ride back to the airport to speak with the manager since they did not answer their phone, but the manager said no second key and just keep calling Fox Roadside Assistance.

Well, they simply don't answer as I'm sure he already knew. We ended up paying nearly $300 getting a key made just so we could get to where we needed to go on our vacation. I wouldn't use Fox again if they were $2 a day. Buyer beware... Go with trusted rental car companies and don't chance your vacation or your safety with a company like Fox. They don't just suck, they simply don't care.

SAN FRANCISCO, ARIZONA -- Jeez where to start?! We were going to San Francisco so I got a reservation for a Jeep Grand Cherokee for $123 for 3 days. When we showed up we stood in line for about 25 to 30 minutes and then finally got to the counter. The guy says my reservation is no longer valid since it's past 3 hours of the time I listed. Well we were only 9 minutes past!! And we waited in line for all that time! So the guy says he's gonna help us out and shhh don't tell the manager. That mother effer gave us a frigging Versa!! And charged us $165 for the same 3 days! If I wasn't tired of dealing with this idiot I would've very much enjoyed sticking his head up his ass and watching him hobble around for a bit. We just wanted to get out of there and get to our hotel. If I could give these people negative stars I would. ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS!! But that's what I get for not reading reviews before renting here. In the future I will use the better companies that treat you correctly.

Scammers! Do Not Rent From Them.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA -- DO NOT rent from them! Scammers and money-hungry! Took my money and didn't give us the car rental. Then also took my brother's money for another car rental. Call them up, I got hung up TWICE, and after almost 45mins “hold”, finally reach a male agent telling me that is “it's the policy, so we can't refund your money and I should read the fine prints”! And hung up on me again, WHILE I was speaking. What kind of company does that? Is that how you're trained? Tell the customers no refund and just hang up the phone?

That's more than $500 between both of our accounts! Never ever again with Fox or through carrentals.com! All scammers! You guys telling me that I can't treat my family for car rental on their vacation. Leaving them without a car at 1:00 in the morning, with both my 80yrs old parents! All you guys care is how much money can you scammed out of all of us! Terrible! Terrible! Terrible!!! You guys doesn't deserve even ONE star, or do you guys even cares?

This Is a Bogus Company

TORONTO -- We booked a car with Fox Rental in Toronto Canada through Cheap-O-Air. When we arrived at the airport and called for the shuttle (because they are off-site - first clue, never rent from a car company that is not at the airport), we received busy signals, put on hold for hours, no one ever came on the line. We were stranded in Canada until we fortunately were able to rent a car through Thrifty, which I would recommend to everyone - they are terrific (Thanks, Jamal.)

Please do not waste your time getting lured in by the cheap price that Fox puts on the Cheap-O-Air website - there will be no car for you! Fortunately, we only lost a $15 deposit to these scammers although I continue to monitor my credit card.

DENVER, KANSAS -- I found a car through HolidayCars.com, who then channeled me to Fox Rent-a-Car. The car I reserved wasn't there, so I had to change to a different one. Upon returning the car, I was told to leave the keys in the car and they would send a final bill. The final bill does not reconcile with what I was told I would be charged, and my credit card has been charged for even more than what my final bill shows.

Billing customer service was extremely rude and unhelpful. The agent would not even listen to my full question before telling me the mistake was on my end, or with Holiday Cars. Even after multiple attempts of repeating back to her what she had said, and then stating that her information did not address my concern, she would not listen. She insisted the problem was between me and HolidayCars (whose invoices show correctly). Horrible customer service, and no way to reconcile the bill. At the end of the day, the overbilling cost is not worth the frustration of repeated attempts to be reconciled.
