Very Bad Customer Service

BROWARD, FLORIDA -- I wish we could have more options when choosing an energy company. Here in Florida ( unfortunately) one one "Florida Power & Light" they have the worst customer service ever!!. When someone calls, , they sound very nasty on the phone. They talk to people like talking to a child. We, as consumers, need more options like New York, Texas, etc. Nasty, Nasty, Nasty customer service ,,, they only act like that, because they're the only source of energy in the State of Florida.

FPL Deposit is a rip-off and a scam!

After losing my job and falling behind my mortgage payments, FPL raised my deposit by $650.00. I will complain with Representative Ileana Ross-Lehtinen and whoever wants to hear me. I don't trust FPL and they need competition!!!! It's time to break their monopoly.

FPL only does that if you are constantly paying your bill late. That's why they charged the deposit.

When it gets right down to it FPL thinks you can't/won't pay your bill. This has nothing to do with a monopoly or power. Rather it is a direct response for your late payment. The good news is you might be able to get your deposit back. Some electric companies will give you back your deposit if you pay on time for a specific number of months. You might want to call and ask. You might also want to ask if they have any programs that assist low income families with their bills.

FPL will waive that deposit most likely if you sign up for Auto-Bill Pay. Give them a call.

FPL is a joke. Their customer service is absolutely horrid. Calling this company an dealing with an issue that is their mistake is equivalent to a living nightmare. They are extremely rude and unhelpful. I signed up for automatic bill pay and made sure all the information was correct. FPL is charging me late fees because the automatic bill pay did not work. (The money was taken out of my account by them, and then put back in) I had more than enough money in my account for the transaction to go through. So I double checked and yes all my information as correct, but to be on the safe side I re-entered it. Again, the next month the same thing happens. I spoke with several representatives who essentially told me, "automatic bill pay doesn't work, but if you cancel your automatic bill pay we will charge you a cancellation fee." If that's not a rip-off I don't know what is. I now have to pay late fees and a cancellation fee because their system is flawed.

First of all Don't blame others for not paying your bills. We are all adults eith responsibilities. I'm glad I gave a deposit. Here's why. We live in a hurricane area. When storms hit we need outside help from other states to cone help us restore power. They don't work for free. Remember this. If our deposit helps put money upfront for me to have power in days instead of weeks sounds good to me. If you think your being robbed by getting late fees. Your robbing them by wanting something you didn't pay for. Nothings free.
FPL SUCKS on 07/11/2013:
I have had FPL for over 2 years and they won't return my deposit. I was late once in the last 12 months so apparently I am disqualified from getting my deposit back and have to wait another 12 months from the time my last late payment was made. By the way, I was late by one day and even called in the day before to inform them I would be a day late. This is a rip off and the reason they do this is because there is not the freedom to choose another provider, there is not competition. If there was, there would be lower rates, lower deposit amounts, and better service. Florida has its regulations all screwed up.

I have always paid my FPL bills on time and I never am more than a week late but FPL says they didn't get 2 payments said it went to another account so I'm being punished for this. And the balance kept getting higher even though I've been making payments and my bank has proof of this. And I had to pay 567 to turn on my power cause of past balance that should not be and they said that in August I made an online pay and it was returned that's a lie too I made that payment in person at a FPL paying location in August cash I want them to refund me the 567 I had to pay to turn my power back on and to credit the 561 I paid in August that they say didn't get credited this is wrong very wrong.

Dear FPL Customer, Can't you just get a copy of your checks you sent to FPL and they cashed and credited to another account to get your account credited for the amounts you paid? Even though our banks these days don't return our cancelled checks they do have to keep a copy of them and you can request those cancelled check copies front and back which would prove you paid your account. They should credit back those checks and any disruption of service or reconnection fees also to you. If you paid with Cash you might be out of luck but money orders have a receipt or copy also so always hold on to stuff like that. I have had companies post my payments to someone elses accounts before and it is easy to straighten out the error if you have your payment information, including copies available to them. Sorry you are going through this.

They should give receipts for cash paid. I am surprised they would turn off power during an ongoing investigation into a known error.
