Frigidaire freezer FKFH21F7HW

I originally purchased freezer on 07/12. Delivery was 07/18. On 07/19 I called repair because Power Failure light was continually on. On 07/20 I called again and said there was a large gap of the gasket on the right side of the freezer. On 07/21 I called again and said that the frost free freezer was full of ice. On the inside top, along the door. When you open the freezer icicles drop off everywhere. I purchased this from Best Buy. They have been great. They called me the next day and said they were delivering a new freezer on Saturday, 07/25.

I received this new freezer yesterday. I inspected the freezer and saw no gaps in the gasket. As the freezer got cold, the Power Failure light came on (and has stayed on) and a gap has formed along the right side just as it did on the last freezer. After the freezer was on for approximately 8 hours, it started to form ice on the inside top and along the door. Once again in the same places. How can two same model freezers, $700+ even pass inspection?? Now what am I supposed to do. I purchased a new freezer because of the Energy Star. My old freezer was just sucking up the electricity.

Now with two Energy Star Frigidaire freezers in one week, they are both sucking up the electricity because of the faulty gaskets. I have contacted The Geek Squad who hold the repair part of my warranty. They will contact me this week. I have another problem with staying home from work for a four hour stretch to wait for a repair man. I cannot believe the work involved in taking food out of one and putting it into another freezer to have it be a faulty freezer once again.

Crazy response to rusted freezer door
By -

As some you may know the freezer door rusting away on Frigidaire side by sides is a well-known problem resulting manufacturing design defect. I only recently learned of this when a large section of the white coating fell off to reveal the rusted away metal underneath. I contacted Frigidaire and this is their response:

"We regret to hear that you are having difficulties with rust on your refrigerator. Unfortunately this is not covered under warranty as it is deemed a cosmetic issue. However, you will find below instructions on how to remove or lessen the visibility of rust on your appliance:

1) Dip a moist, soft toothbrush in a box of baking soda. Very gently, rub back and forth on the appliance. The mild abrasive action will get into the grain without damaging it. You can use your finger (instead of a toothbrush) for even better results.

2) Rinse the baking soda off with a warm, damp (not wet) paper towel. Dry thoroughly. You may see or smell rust on the paper towel or toothbrush. That means it is working!

3) Finally, dry the appliance thoroughly. You do not want to leave any water that could cause more rust.

We hope this helps and again, thank you for contacting Frigidaire.”

The door metal is resting away, holes, compromised integrity and this person calls it a "cosmetic issue". Unbelievable. Just thought I would share as some of you may be getting ready to purchase a new unit. Hope this helps with your decision.

Trust Me... Don't Buy This Model!
By -

NANAIMO BC -- I wish I would have found this site sooner. :( My freezer (Model # FFU21F5HWG) is less than 6 weeks old. Ran good for a week, then I happen to open the door and my food was thawing. Called for a repair... Found out I needed a new control unit. 2 weeks later, new control unit. Worked for 1 day and now they are ordering me a new control unit again. Not sure how long this will go on for... But we'll see.

One problem being that when the control unit stops working the temperature alarm doesn't work either so there was no way of knowing it wasn't working. It looked as though it was... Needs to be on a separate circuit to be able to warn that it isn't working, even I know this. Who designs these freezers? They need to go back to school, I say!

Noisy - NEW - Frigidaire FFTR1817L Top Freezer Refrigerator
By -

The overall design is alright for a budget fridge. Power consumption is OK. But it's way too loud. The fan can be heard from several rooms away. Really and it's louder than my microwave oven by far. It's clearly audible from anywhere on the first floor of the house and this is a new fridge, I've had it 2 weeks. My old fridge was 30 years old and very quiet. It runs more than expected with a total "on" time of 27% which is more than the better models, but it has a small compressor so it only draws about 140 watts of power (at 1.1 amps) so the overall power consumption is fine. At. 09 cents/Kw-hr (Wis) it costs me $2.25 per month to run. So that part is fine.

Occasionally the power goes up to 450 watts but that must be the built-in defrost heater kicking in. The only issue with this fridge is the noise. It's hitting 55dB at 10 feet away and is over 65dB when close by. I can hear the fan noise from several rooms away, it's not the compressor that's loud, it's the circulation fan.

Piece of junk

I purchased the freezer March 2009, so one year warranty expired 5 mos. ago. I was told by repair man on phone that Frigidaire freezers aren't worth repairing -- junk. Frigidaire told me "they are called non-serviceable." I paid $400 for a freezer that lasted 17 months, did not alert me with the sound it is supposed to have when temperature goes up, and a freezer full of food spoiled. Frigidaire said that, even if it were still in warranty, it was not worth repairing -- they would just send me a new freezer. They will give me a rebate if I buy the same one! Who wants spoiled food again??? Model #FFU14F5HWB -- I imagine every model has the same problem.

All new appliances with nothing but problems from day 1 (literally)

Since purchasing these products new from Lowes 2 years ago we have had nothing but problems beginning with the refrigerator when it was first delivered. The water dispenser was broken. After two months of trying to deal with customer service Lowe's finally replaced that refrigerator and within 13 months (no longer under warranty) we had the same problem plus other problems with ice maker. Either it doesn't make ice or will not quit making ice so every time you open the freezer the overflow of ice covers your floor.

The "Professional" series convection oven quit working after 2 years and the same with the upright freezer which was full when it quit and we lost everything. Do not bother to call Customer Service because they really do not care and offer you nothing. The new speed bake oven which we had purchased new at our second home was recalled because of faulty control board. We will never again buy another Frigidaire product and will do everything that we can to make sure other consumers are aware that they are throwing away their hard earned money.

Beware of Frigidaire
By -

FRANKFORT, KENTUCKY -- I bought a new Frigidaire Commercial freezer at Lowe's in late August 2004. It lasted about 3 weeks before it stopped cooling and ruined some meat. Lowe's brought me a new freezer and swapped them out. The second one lasted until mid-December and it did the same thing. And ruined more meat. Lowe's swapped them out again. The third one lasted until the end of May 05 and did the same thing. I had it sent off for repair rather than get a fourth new one.

The repair company says they replaced the 'dryer'. I haven't been able to find out what a dryer is, and the person I called at the repair company didn't know either. Maybe its the same thing as an evaporator? Anyway, this was without a doubt the worst purchase I have ever made and I am still not confident that I have a reliable freezer. The problem is 100% Frigidaire's fault, but Lowe's would be well advised to stop selling these things to their customers.

Do Not Purchase Any Frigidaire/Electrolux Products

GREENUP, KENTUCKY -- We purchased a Frigidaire/Electrolux commercial upright freezer in 2011 at a cost of $2100.00. The first one, yes first one, was leaking cold air around the top of the unit. The service repair came to our house and looked under the gasket around the door. The screws in the door facing had been tightened down so tightly that it cracked the plastic lining. Well we had to order another freezer and when it arrived we transferred all our food to this unit, and after several days noticed ice on the inside of the freezer, it looked like a large frozen waterfall.

We called the Frigidaire/Electrolux company and they called a local refrigerator service and they would not come here because that stated, the Frigidaire/Electrolux would not reimburse for their service. Well it is December 2012 and we have yet to get our freezer serviced. Our packages of food adhere to the back of the freezer where the ice is located and it is almost impossible to retrieve these without tearing open packages. So I am letting all my Facebook friends and all my e-mail contacts know what poor appliances this company is selling to the public. DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING MADE BY THIS COMPANY.

Extreme Disappointment in Frigidaire Products
By -

We purchased a new home in Oct. 2003 with new Frigidaire appliances throughout. In Mar. 2006 we purchased a new upright "commercial series" Frigidaire freezer. It is now Dec. 2011. 90 days ago our refrigerator quit working and the appliance repairman suggested purchasing a new one due to the cost of repair. We re-purchased a Frigidaire to keep our appliances the same brand. Last week, the refrigerator handle sheared off and broke in two.

3 days ago the Frigidaire Microwave/Hood quit heating - again repair man advised replacement rather than repair. Just came home today to the Frigidaire freezer making an odd sound - opened it up to discover the meat thawed and the freezer not working! I'm not even going to ask the freezer be repaired, rather just go ahead and get rid of it. We are preparing to build a new home - our appliance choices will be ANYTHING but Frigidaire.

Everything is thawed

In August 2010 I bought the whole Frigidaire Professional series line for my newly renovated kitchen. BIG Mistake!!! Last week the freezer started to warm up. I called customer service, they suggested I lower the temp, and reboot the freezer, which I did. Then they said I should leave the freezer closed for 24 hours. Again I followed their advice. The temp kept going up, and now the fridge was warming up too, SO I e-mailed Frigidaire, who said that now I should call for service. They would pay for the call, but I was out of warranty. (13 month old fridge which cost more than $2000.00)

In spite of the fact that I did nothing to cause this, they felt they had no responsibility for the food because their product failed. If this happens to you, stay on the phone! They will tell you they cannot give you money, keep insisting, ask for a manager... they are authorized to give you $100.00 (anyone been to the market this century?). This company does not care about their customers. They acknowledge the product should not fail, are happy to charge top dollar for the product, but hang their hat on the warranty as soon as you own the product. Buy another appliance!
