Gateway NE71B series laptop is the biggest piece of[snip] I've seen in a long time. Mouse doesn't work right half the time, it freezes up 5 times a day, email locks it up every time I open it. I will never own any piece of garbage from Gateway again Add reply
LAWRENCEBURG, INDIANA -- I have never had a laptop and was very excited to get my new Gateway. Five days after purchasing it the screen froze up with only a black screen and the white arrow. I called a tech support number first and the only way they could help was to sell me an $99 tech support package. Then I called another number and I was told to take off the battery and then put it back on and tap f2, again nothing but an offer for me to ship it back. So I am taking it back for a different manufacturer!Add reply
I called Gateway due to the fact that the pre-installed software was not working. The computer was 2 weeks old, and still under warranty. I was told over and over that I could not be helped and I would be transferred to DELL who for a FEE would help me. I HATE THIS COMPUTER, IT RUNS SLOW AND DOES NOT LOAD ANY PRELOADED SOFTWEAR QUICKLY DO NOT BUY 2 Replies - Latest reply on 06/14/2013Add reply
FLORIDA -- Took the computer to BestBuy after the first incident of turning it on and seeing the Gateway Insignia and then nothing else. Nothing would open.
They kept it a few days and called to say they found no problem and had been able to open it from the off mode and the sleep mode and the hibernate mode. Brought it home and it worked less than two weeks and now the same thing has happened. Plan to return it for exchange or refund.
Not sure if this has anything to do with Windows 8 but whoever put that together should be fired.
Don't buy gateway computer it does not have its own tech support it uses tech from India or philippines they take your money and don't fixed the problem name of tech support stay away from answer by PC support they say thee gateway tech support they take your money and don't fix the problem 1 Replies - Latest reply on 10/26/2012Add reply
I regret having bought this laptop. I have had problems connecting it to my printer (it doesn't even recognize that it is connected) and connecting the laptop to my external monitor with an HDMI cable and getting a full-screen image. I have no problems connecting with the three older laptops I own--a Dell, a Toshiba, and an HP--so I'm confident it is the Gateway laptop. Your tech support was unable to solve the monitor issue and told me my only recourse on my three-month-still-under-warranty computer is to PAY for tech support. The lack of competency in dealing with my monitor issue makes me doubt you'll be able to fix the printer issue unless I pay for tech support. Sad. I will rely on Googling the problems to find solutions; it's likely I'll have more success.

I wish I could get my money back on this laptop and will tell anyone who asks (or many who don't) that they shouldn't buy a Gateway computer.
TEXAS -- My higher-end Gateway desktop computer had a defective media card reader (bent connector pins) right out of the box. After 6 days of e-mailing and over 2 hours on the phone with their so-called "support", Gateway tells me that 1) I need to pay shipping to Texas for my defective computer. 2) I will be completely without a computer for 2 weeks - even though I told them I need my computer every night to coordinate a charitable event. 3) I need to remove all files and software before shipping it. 4) There is a very high likelihood they will charge me $199 plus tax for the in-warranty repair because they are calling it physical damage. and 5) Their "customer care" (what an ironic name!) supervisors do not accept phone calls and will not speak to me. All of this for a component that should cost less than 10 bucks on a $1,000 computer! DO NOT BUY FROM GATEWAY / ACER!!!1 Replies - Latest reply on 03/15/2012Add reply

I purchased an inexpensive Gateway computer Model#NV55c49u in October of 2011 ($400). The day that I brought the computer home and turned in on it had issues with painfully slow processing which the Geek Squad told me was probably a bad mother board. The computer has been disappointing since the moment I purchased it.

I have since purchased a HP Pavillion and have been very happy with it . I do not recommend that anyone purchase a Gateway computer.
After a few months of use the screen on my Gateway netbook went out. It may or may not have been caused by me, I couldn't be sure, but they repaired it for free and even sent back my netbook with an upgraded battery with twice the battery life. My family has trusted Gateway for years but this is the first time I've bought one myself. For $200 I'm really impressed with the quality of the machine and the great service I got. Well done Gateway.Add reply

TENNESSEE -- I bought a Gateway GT5220 And was hit by a Trojan. No recovery disk came with my system. It was a 64 bit dual processor. When I contacted Gateway they sent me a recovery disk for a 32 bit system When I had to recall them they sent me another disk 2 weeks later and it was for the 32 again. When you contact Gateway they route you to India. If you want to speak with a specialist it cost you 40.00 dollars. When you talk with the free part they have no idea of what you need and if you or out of warranty they want to charge you 200.00 for the right disk. I have contacted them for the last time. Since they or built in America they should keep there service tech here to. I'll never buy another Gateway even if there the last computer on the market. I'll do without. When you buy one anyone. MAKE SURE THEY GIVE YOU THE DISK FOR THAT SYSTEM. If THEY WANT TO CHARGE YOU FOR IT DON'T BUY IT. 2 Replies - Latest reply on 05/11/2011Add reply
