LANCASTER, PENNSYLVANIA -- Global tel is a money making scheme for the company itself, as well as the correctional facility who must require this service.
Most of us with loved ones incarcerated are not wealthy, but the above two mentioned take total advantage of our situation, making this the only way to have phone contact with our jailed loved ones.
Why are they charging outrageous amounts for calls, so called service fees, as well as taking money from my account that are not applied to calls that go through, I am being charged for calls that I do not answer. And forget about customer service, I was treated like a piece of crap, told calls were made that weren't and basically called a liar, and so what you can't do anything about it, you have no other choice.
OKLAHOMA -- My spouse is an inmate at Hillside Correctional in Oklahoma City. Every time I place more money on my account the recording tells me it is now connecting my call, which it does not. I get disconnected every time and charged for the call. I finally managed to talk with a live person about this, and was told it would take seven business days to get a reply. I haven't heard anything since. this has been an ongoing problem, and the company does not seem to care. I am sick of being charged for a call that I don't get to use. I was also informed that Global cannot credit my phone back the charges because it is a cell phone. I have heard that other inmates have experienced the same problem, but do not know that for a fact. I guess my next step is to call the Better Business Bureau. I wish to add that the rate this company charges is absurd. Don't never put any money into GTL. They will get you for all your money and don't give you all your phone calls they are horrible. I will never put any more money on my phone from them again. It's useless to put so much money for 3 phone calls. Add reply
I do not like the service for the simple fact is that when you try to talk you loved one you got to have the service on there. I mean what if you can not afford the service to put it on your phone. I think even if you do not have the service, there should still be a button you can push so you still talk to your loved. WILMINGTON, DELAWARE -- This company is a RIP OFF! Try calling the customer service number I'm sure you will be on hold for at least a half hour. The rates is outrageous. Whats up with you can only pay $25 or $50? Well if you speak to a representative to make your payment you can tell him/her that you want to add any amount and they have to add those funds no more no less. They will try to convince you otherwise but trust me I have on more then one occasion added anywhere from $10, $15 or even $30 when I make a payment with a live person. I have been having a lot of issues with dropped calls. Usually a recording will come on saying "This call is being terminated due to 3way calls" even though I don't even use the 3way. They won't give you a refund if your using a cellphone because they claim that there is no way of knowing why the call got disconnected. Also if you use a debit card to make payments they do have an issue with you using more then one card to make a payment or having your loved on make excessive calls through out the day. They like to call this OVER USAGE. Come on GTL this is called a PRE PAID calling system. My loved one should be able to call as much as I am willing to pay and I should be able to fund my account as much as I would like to. I up load my pre paid card every week with cash for minutes through Global Tel and they allow me to accept it then drop our fallacy it does this just about every time. What a waste of money. Add reply

Global tel link are crooks and apparently not aware of how to run an business. This collect service allows you to place 25$ or 50$ on a account and connects you. What they don't tell you is that from that set amount 4.75$ Will be taken frm that(thats their fee)which isn't explained to you in their recording then there is a 2$ and somethimg fee for every 30min or less. Wait it gets better there is also a tax added to the amount. Furthermore if an inmate calls you and you don't pick up, and they hang up and call you right back global-tel-link charges your account as if you answered. P.O. BOX 173875, COLORADO -- I live in Georgia and my husband is incarcerated in Georgia!! Well he called tonight and GTL charged me long distance fees and we both have 229 area code! So I call GTL and unbelievably they try to say he is in California! Wow I did not know jail allowed you to go on vacation. They insisted until they looked into it. So, I ask to have the long distance fee removed and lo and behold they came up with another reason to leave the charge on and that reason is because it was a cell phone last night the supervisor stated that there would be no long distance fee. Of course, the representative tonight said they would not do that. Well I think GTL is a big rip off. Isn't it bad enough the stress we feel having a spouse locked up and down to one income?

I don't like to deal with that company. My love one was move and I call for my money back. I never received my refund but but when call them they tell me they send it. I have complained three different times in a weeks time because a family member can not contact me on my cell phone. I paid for this service and even though my family member can not get through I am being charged for this so called service. The recording from Global on my message service tells me "I have not paid for the service on" on this line yet the Global agent says I have. I believe this is a very poor way of doing business. They tell me the fault lies with my family member because he makes the calls back to back and should delay trying for 30 minutes. I could tell him that if he could get through their phone system. When I call to speak to a Global operator they make excuses. They are well trained because they all give the same excuses! My son is incarcerated in a Tennessee facility and after paying Global Tel Link big money within the last year to talk to him, we decided to give MagicJack a try. I set up everything and sent my son my MagicJack number to call (which I set up with a local TN number, since I live in TX). He was unable to add the MagicJack number on his facility phone list. He was told the facility wanted 'proof' that the number was a 'land line' and not a 'cell phone'. I just finished talking with a nice man at the facility, who handles phone issues for the inmates. It turns out that it's Global Tel Link who has a problem with MagicJack. He was unsure of the details (which are plain to me),and was hoping by the end of the week that MagicJack numbers could be added back on to phone lists. We all know why Global Tel Link doesn't want families using MagicJack phone numbers, because it will cut into the company profits. I'm sure this company has made bookoos putting the screws to inmate families. They sure don't want anything cutting into their profit margin. I guess if I cancelled my local phone service to use MagicJack exclusively I wouldn't be talking with my son at all.

Just a head up.
I can not add any more negative stuff on this company that hasn't already been said. They are deplorable. The money they charge for a phone call is asinine. I have on 3 occasions accepted a collect call, spoke for less than 5 min. and for EACH call prior to accepting the call, had to charge $25.00 on my credit card to talk to that person. EACH time the call came through, Global claimed I had to add more money. I'm on a fixed income and to charge that kind of money for a PHONE CALL is again, asinine!! This company should not be allowed to continue to take advantage of people the way they do. I can call internation and not be charged $25.00 for 5 min. I'm waiting for the big wigs in this co. to go to jail then have their family pay for their collect calls. Hay pal, have ya ever heard of KARMA!! Good luck.......
