Bogus end of lease charges
By -

PHOENIX, ARIZONA -- We have leased from GMAC for 15 to 20 years and have enjoyed very much the fact that we could always drive a dependable car. Last year 2009, my husband's lease ran out and at that time, GMAC Smartlease was not a option as GM was going through its restructuring. He had the dealer run the figures on a new truck and found that it would be better for us financially to finance a pre-owned GMC Sonoma.

The dealer inspected our lease turn in and told my husband that the scratches that my husband pointed out to him were surface scratches and could and would be buffed out not hurting the car at all. The car was clean and had very low miles on it. We take care of our leases as we would a car we were financing.

A few weeks after he turned in the lease, we received a letter stating that our obligation to the lease had been fulfilled and that the vehicle had been sold and the lease satisfied. A few days later, we receive a bill of sorts from GMAC Smartlease stating that the damages to the vehicle were $464.38 and it was due immediately.

I sent 2 letters to address the bills disputing the charges. We got a letter threatening to turn us over to collections. My husband called GMAC and spoke with a very rude customer service representative. She told my husband to either pay up a discounted amount that she quoted him of $350.00 or let it go to collections and we could deal with them.

We feel we are being penalized for not releasing or buying a new vehicle. This was the goal but was unattainable. Then our dispute was not only not investigated or addressed, but we feel we are being harassed. We were lease loyal GM driving consumers. Not that it will matter but we are seriously thinking of taking our business elsewhere. By the way, my husband works for **, my father worked for GM and my brother in law works for GM. It is the little people like us who can make or break a company with our stories.

Sunshell on a Chevy S-10 Blazer
By -

My husband and I purchased a 2000 Chevy Blazer in May of 2003. Like all vehicles, it has had its share of oil changes, tires, etc. June of 2007 has been proven very expensive for us. We were aware that the CV joints needed to be replaced and that process was done on June 7, 2007. The total for that work was $450.00. The following week during our vacation, we noticed the brakes were squealing. I took the Blazer in to have the brakes looked at on June 18, 2007. It was determined that we needed new front calipers and rotors, along with rear brake pads. That cost was $314.00.

The manager mentioned that GM models were infamous for having the calipers get stuck when heated, therefore causing the rotors to wear down very quickly. He also mentioned that this was a problem in older models and the problem had since been corrected in later models. GM never sent out any type of recall and did not let owners of certain year models aware of the problem. Last of all was the most expensive.

On June 28, 2007 my transmission went out. After having the vehicle towed to a transmission specialist, it was determined that the Beast Sun-Shell had been broken or stripped. That manager also told us that all GM models made to a certain year had the same problem and GM did not ask for a recall because that it was not considered to be a hazard. That cost was $1025.00. After hearing about the sunshell problem, we decided to look on the Internet to find out more information.

We discovered that GM was aware of the sunshells in models made before 2003 were made of cheap metal and were very prone to shattering easily. Yet, a recall was never mentioned. What's worse is that they refused to let the owners of these vehicles be aware of a potential (and expensive) problem. If anyone out there has had the same problem with the calipers and/or sunshells, please contact us. We are in the process of writing GM a complaint about this issue and would like to have more information from others having had or currently experiencing this problem. Thank you.

Resolution Update 07/26/2009:

Thanks for everyone's reply and no this was never resolved but there is no need to email me anymore on the subject. GM is dead to me. Thanks

GMAC Smart Buy now in collections
By -

Hello. I have a big issue with GMAC. I HAD a truck from them in 2005 using their Smart Buy program. When it came time to either purchase the truck or turn it in, because of financial problem, I chose to turn it in. I was told I could do that, pay the disposal fee plus any overage on the mileage or damages to the truck and that would be that.

I did that in 2009, now 2 years later, they want me to pay them 11k because I defaulted on the contract. Now come on, what crap is that? I went through this about a month after I turned in the truck. They hadn't received the paperwork from the dealership. After I explained that to GMAC's financial department, they said they got the papers and that was all that was needed, they would bill me for the rest.

They then sold the truck at an auction then informed me that I owed the $5500 for what they didn't recoup in selling the truck. I again explained to them that I did not owe them anything. That as it is stated in the SMART BUY LITERATURE, that I followed its instruction and did what was written.

I also checked with them that I could turn the truck in and do as stated above. Now they're, GMAC, is trying to sue me for it, 2 yrs after the fact. WHAT THE HECK is up with that? Anybody ever had to deal with them on the same issue, please advise me here.

He started receiving unemployment in August 2009. At the time of purchase he brought an Insurance that covered disability and loss of employment.

His account had already been sent to the GMAC loss recovery and meanwhile insurance had sent in payment for February through July 2009. That is 4 years or 48 months out of the 72 mos. he financed. Amounts paid into this account were about $26046.00 balance due in 24 mos. Then GMAC is now ALLY bank and this finance company has repossessed our truck.

I have tried calling them. I have sent a certified letter and no response. I have been treated rudely and it has been a month and a week since they took our only transportation. They have been receiving payments from our insurance how do I get hold of someone I can't afford and attorney and that is their advantage HELP!!!

Try to get a subordination from GMAC
By -

Ever try and get a call back or a straight answer from customer service at GMAC Mortgage? By far, in an industry that has incompetence written all over it, GMAC Mortgage is King of the Crap. I have tried to get a reasonable time table as to when I can obtain a subordination to refinance my 1st mortgage and I am given a different day every time. My rate lock expires and it costs me significant money to extend it.

I am now going to call David Applegate, President & CEO, whom I am sure I will not be able to make contact with since this company trains their customer service to block everything they possibly can. Pretty pathetic company. David Applegate is in Horsham, Pa and their number is (215) 682-1000.

Had it with GMAC

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY -- I bought a Chevy Malibu in 2007. I financed it with GMAC. Since then my wife became blind in her left eye due to glaucoma, then she was laid off at Sam's Club. I make the car payment and the payment was due on the 30th of each month due to circumstances about my wife I am not able to pay on time but I am a bi-lateral amputee and receive my disability check in my bank on the second wed of each month, I send my car payment off then.

I have told and told GMAC this, beginning the 5th or 6th of each month I start getting their calls anywhere from 2 to 4 per day up to 8:30 pm then the next day starting at 8:28 am. These are robo calls with no person and a list of options that are no options. After I don't pick up for a few days then I get calls from a different number (888-611-6904) same GMAC but from a foreign country and a person who can't speak good English. I am tired of this same routine every month. I will never buy another vehicle made by General Motors (government motors) ever again. No wonder they went belly -up. I urge you to think hard before you do business with these people.

Bogus Charges

BLOOMINGTON, MINNESOTA -- I, too recently surrendered a leased car for a new one. They are claiming that "wavy metal" is the result of a previous repair. This car had NEVER had any type of body repair. I have called and written to them disputing this claim. Today someone called me to see when I was planning to pay this $200. I again told them I was disputing this claim. He then informed me that the covers to the visor mirrors were missing. When I looked at the inspection online, the only thing mentioned about the mirrors was that the lights were burned out.

The covers to the mirrors were there when I left the car. The passenger side light NEVER worked and the driver side light was probably used 5 times. The letter that was sent to me right after the inspection DID NOT mention anything about missing mirror covers. I will not pay them anything. This is harassment. If it continues I will NEVER buy another GM car again.

GMAC unreasonable and rude
By -

I lost my job and income and had to leave the country as I could not sustain here. I had paid 3 years of my loan each installment on time without a single default. I called GM when I lost my job to tell them I want to payoff and if they would give me a discount if I payoff in advance and in one go since I had to leave the country. They did not budge initially. When I escalated the issue and they finally did agree, I went about trying to sell the car and pay off the difference.

After a week, they changed their mind and told me I would get no discount unless I could provide documentation which I was not in a position to provide legally. I told them to just take away the car and it has to go against my credit history because of the poor business practices at GM. They owe tons of money to the Govt and Tax Payer and they want a waiver but they would not waive 2000 dollars from a helpless consumer in return for a full payment. The customer service representative was even worse and would not let me talk. It was the rudest person I have spoken within my life.

Over Charging
By -

BLOOMINTON, MICHIGAN -- I think I found out how GM is going to stay out of bankruptcy. They are going to over charge the consumer FOR THE MOST PETTY STUFF. I traded in my truck and had the dealer do a walk around with me and we could not find any thing wrong he said this truck is mint, nothing needed to be repaired 2 weeks later GMAC is sending me a bill for $222.00 for a scratch in the clear cote 4 inches long that a $6.00 can of rubbing compound would have taken out. How do I know what happen to the truck after I left it or did the inspector do the damage?

Home Equity Credit Line Customer Service
By -

MICHIGAN -- I have had numerous accounts with GMAC for at least 26 years. I might add that I had excellent credit with them until I received a nasty letter stating that my credit line has been suspended immediately. They received my payment (including $300.00 extra every month) 2 days past the due date (no grace period).

I called them upon receiving the letter and was told that is the hard fast rule, NO MATTER WHAT. I called them to explain that my daughter had been involved in a very serious car accident and that I may have mailed it out later than usual. They admitted that I have been an excellent customer with good standing credit but that I agreed to the conditions of that agreement... I think it stinks the way we are treated these days. Are there any suggestions out there?
