DALLAS, TEXAS -- I purchased the Gold Leaf Chicken leg quarters (10lbs pack) yesterday at Walmart. Not only was the quality to lowest I've ever seen, it was frozen and thawed and smelled a bit off. Since when do leg quarters include necks, random bits of pure fat, some ribs??? Half of the pieces weren't even quarters, just drumstick with some bones hanging off it. So unimpressed! Do yourself, your family and your wallet a favor and buy the leg quarters at Aldi instead. Cheaper and much better quality!
SPRINGDALE, ARKANSAS -- We live in NC. We went to our local store and bought 3 of the 10 pound bags of Gold Leaf chicken. When we opened them for our cook out we found broken off scrap like pieces instead of legs or quarters. We also found meatless backs. We could not find any information for this company as Gold Leaf. We then did some research. As it was distributed by Tyson I contacted them at 1-800-643-3410.
We were informed that Gold Leaf is a seconds product that Tyson puts out. They did however tell us they would be reimbursing us for all 3 bags. They did not apologize for the quality simply stating more than once that it was a seconds product and if we wanted a better product we should by the one marked Tyson. How sad that they feel it is OK to put a secondary quality product on the market and yet they won't put the Tyson name on it.
First of all most of the pieces were not leg quarters but thighs with no legs attached. Once I repackaged and put in freezer and took one out after fully frozen to thaw out and use for a meal. When I opened the plastic bag I almost puked the smell was so overpowering. The Chicken was rotten. They sell to the military commissary system and this isn't the first time this has happened.
If it were up to me I would cancel the contract with DECA Commissary and I would notify the USDA to inspect their processing facility to see why they keep packaging chicken that is already spoiled. The military vet in charge of food service will be getting the chicken to test and take further action. I will be sending an email to DECA to look into doing away with their contract with the military.
FLINT, MICHIGAN -- Gold leaf chicken may not be fit for human consumption, maybe for pet food if you boil the heck out of it. 10 lb bag include broken leg bones, parts of ribs mashed up, pieces thrown in and lots of bloody skin and feathers. Disgusting!! Company has no website or 1-800 number. Don't buy this product!!
Leg quarters contained green pockets from injection sites. The pockets look like tumors filled with thick green infection. Very gross and can make you very sick! These are pieces that were pulled off a main line and rechecked to be bagged and sold cheap. Should have been thrown away and vendor should have been reviewed.
PORTER, TEXAS -- I have bought a lot of 10lb bags of leg quarters in my lifetime but never have I purchased any as poor as the ones I bought today. There were no legs to the thigh part and one's that had the whole leg quarter they were broken and they even had a couple of wings in one of the bags. I will never buy gold leaf products again. I understand now why there is no telephone number or website for this company.
