Foreign object found in salad

ORANGE PARK, FLORIDA -- Yesterday, November 11, we ate at Golden Corral on Blanding Blvd, Orange Park, Fl at 1:00 in the
afternoon. I was eating my salad, loaded with vegetables, crab salad, and fruit and suddenly could not bite through an object in my mouth. I pulled out a piece of waxy wire (twisty tie?) from my mouth, wrapped in spinach. I was disgusted and gave it to the waitress. She said she'd bring it to the manager, and then we never heard back from either one of them. Insult to injury.

Easy to happen-I'd bet their salads/veggies come in a bag with a twisty tie on it and it ended up in your salad. Still-the manager should have come over and addressed the issue. I worked at a restaurant and our prep cooks tongue ring (ball) fell into a salad she made. It was one of those vibrating ones too. That did not go over well at all. I think we gave the customer free meals for a month or something.

Isn't the Golden Coral a buffet type place? Don't you look at the stuff before you put it on your plate? With an open buffet anything could have gotten in there. Be happy it was only a twisty tie, I've heard and seen people sneezing and coughing over buffets. You also run the risks of getting insects. Just take it out or throw away the plate and move on. They should put up signs in buffet restaurants "Eat at your own risk!"

I don't like to eat at buffets. Those 'sneeze guards' do little to keep the food clean. Hell, I'm short and am usually under the sneeze guards.

The cashier gave me a senior citizen's discount! I am nowhere close to that age. I found out later when I got home and glanced at the receipt. The service was pretty bad, too. The waitress didn't offer me a refill on my coffee. I don't think I'll be going back there again. I'm not going to be insulted.

I have had that happen to me. The explanation was if there was any doubt they did not want a complaint about NOT giving the discount.

If you did not like the service then, absolutely, do not go back.

As far as complaining about the discount it would appear you are simply looking for something to complain about. You are probably better off eating at home and avoid restaurants altogether.

If you are under 50, and are graying and/or balding, it is easy for some teen or twentysomething behind the counter at a business to offer you the "senior discount" without your knowledge. Some people appreciate the few bucks they saved, while others take it as an insult. Most people in that situation appreciate the first reason.

Heck... I'll take every discount I can get my hands on....I'm an old bald 70'ish kind of guy and I feel insulted when I don't get the discount offer...
Age aside, you should get a discount for being hair-challenged!

Think about it. When you were young, someone who was thirty was old. The person who waited on you probably believed they were doing their job. As for the coffee refill, I always put my cup on the outside edge of the table when I want one. I have heard servers being hollered at for refilling a half filled cup. It seems these hard working people can't make anyone happy. I'm not saying there isn't bad service out there, but I am saying this wasn't much to crab about.

Old is 20 years older than your age. There was a movie theater near my house that I went to regularly and at about 53 years of age, I got the over 55 discount. The first time I wanted to be honest, so I mailed in the difference for the ticket to the manager.

Next time I go, they give me the discount again. I tell them I am not under 11 years of age (which has same discount). Explain I am not entitled to discount, still got it.

Third time - I go, they give me discount - I just accept it. Sometimes it is too hard to do the right thing.

I don't think I've ever seen someone complain about being given a discount before.

I guess the right thing to do would be to pay the full price anyway and then give an appropriate tip.

Food Temperatures

GLEN BURNIE, MARYLAND -- October 16, 2007 - Tuesday Afternoon 2:45 PM

Went to the Golden Corral Buffet Restaurant at 6701 Chesapeake Center Dr, Glen Burnie, MD 21060

Tasted several types of chicken entrees. Found both the fried chicken and roasted chicken to be warm and not hot. Complained to the manager who took the temperature of both types of chicken.

Test results came in really low. I asked her what the temp. should be, but she never answered me. She told the staff to remove the warm chicken and to replace it with a fresh pan of hot chicken.

She then went on about her business, she never offered a refund or an apology.

She did the right thing by removing the chicken from the buffet. She acknowledged the problem and fixed it. Why should she compensate you for that? What more did you want her to do?

ECMS, so what should the temp' have been? It's not going to stay at 160 degrees forever. You're at an AYCE joint. If you want stuff piping hot then go somewhere that you can order it from the kitchen and not someplace where you can overstack your plate five times before noticing that the food is "warm".

Get real. They changed a whole pan of chicken out because of your whining and it still wasn't good enough? Why should you be compensated outside of the GOOD service you received when they replaced the chicken that was no doubt fine to start with. It's a buffet, hello! Stuff does sit a bit under this type of format.

How many chicken entrees is "several"? Sounds like you got your money's worth. Something tells me that the chicken temperature test results were probably the opposite of your cholesterol test results.

Exactly how many chicken entree's were tried? Geez! This sounds like a case of someone who wanted something for nothing. The manager did the right thing, tested the temperature and the chicken was replaced. You are owed nothing else!

People eat cold chicken. Ever hear of chicken salad?

I bet they reheated the chicken back in the deep fryer after they removed it!

If I was the manager, I would offer to deliver a fresh plate of chicken to your table, but you'll never guess what those bubbles are! Hint: It's not deep fryer oil.

Rude Waitress

HAMILTON, OHIO -- We ate at the Golden Corral on Main Street in hamilton, Ohio, last night and our waitress , a 20 year old, was rude. She constantly neglected our table, although she served other tables in the area where we sat. She neglected to give us refills on our drinks and forgot to bring my mom her coffee. To add insult to injury, some guy who was at the restaurant was messing with sister who was also there and spent 10 minutes talking to a co-worker who was taking her break and whining about that man messing with her sister and her hating her job instead of serving us. We were going to get the manager but the manager was in his office and never came out. I want reprimanded for her irresponsible lousy service and her rude unproffesional service and if she does that again, fired. I also want the manager reprimanded for not checking on us. If he reprimanded for her rude behavior, good for him. However, the Hamilton golden Corral needs an overhaul since some of the service we received on a few visits we made there has been horrible. I enjoy GC and its food but next time we eat at a GC, we will eat at another location rather than the Hamilton location.

Consider it marked Madeye. I was thinking the same thing. MJ could possibly be known as the problem customer or worse, bad tipper. The best advice would be to "politely" ask waitress for whatever the need may be, and if that fails, get off your duff and "calmly" speak to manager. Then, consider the size of the tip. Considering the past mjholly posts I'll bet it's not the waitress. Sorry about that.

this happened to us once when we went to a restaurant with a group of 8. We ordered our food, but all we ever got was the drinks. Other people came, ate, and left while we were waiting. Finally we all just got up and walked out, bet they noticed something after that...

My brother emailed that golden Corral, complaining about the service, at their website. They called us back and told us that the service at the Hamilton location had been going downhill. they also informed us that they are going to fire that waitress. She apparently gave other customers the same lousy service she gave us. It was not the first time we had lousy service there. Another time, we had a waitress who was so busy talking to a co-worker who was taking her break that she neglected us. I complained about her on PFB.

I had visited your restaurant located in Smithfield, NC
First I tried the steak. The first piece I was given was Raw and I could not eat it. So I asked for another piece. The second piece was very over cooked. So after two tries I gave up on the steak.

So I tried the lasagna and a meatball and they both taste so horrible I could not eat it. Then I tried what appeared to be a beef patti and some seasoned rice. The beef patti was terrible and the rice was cold.

So I decided it was best for me not to try anything else because I was afraid I would get sick.

All the food taste horrible and it was very poor quality. This was the worst experience I ever had in your restaurant
