NORWOOD, MASSACHUSETTS -- WOW! Where do I begin? We bought three Family Buffet Frozen Meals to keep on hand for nights we didn't feel like really cooking. One of the meals we had last week and it wasn't even listed on the website... Turkey & Gravy. It wasn't terrible but Banquet makes better.
Tonight we had the Baked Beans w/ Pulled Pork and BBQ Sauce. After removing it from the oven and stirring it some, I went and looked at the box again. Servings per container: about FIVE... Wow, really? There was roughly two small spoonfuls of the pulled pork, enough for on a hamburger bun. (ONE bun!) As for the beans and sauce, I would say 3 - 4 very small servings. I passed and had something else, so there would be enough for Starlord. He's not a big eater, but our three year old granddaughter would have eaten what he had and asked for more!
Starlord said that the pork was almost the consistency of shoe leather, it bordered on being jerky! The beans were passable... Well they met the garbage disposal when we finished eating, I tried them and there is no way he will get something like that again.
I don't recall exactly what we paid for the three meals we got, but I can guarantee that we won't be getting them again. They were bought at Grocery Outlet for either $4.99 or $3.99. The last package we have is Charbroiled Patties in Gravy... I think that box will make a trip to the resident pantry here... We have a room for boxed and canned goods and a refrigerator and freezer for perishables that the residents can get groceries if caught between paydays with no food. It's free to the residents, with no pay back necessary.
Everyone donates what they can, when they can and some are faced with situations like we had tonight, there is more in our freezer but it's not going into OUR oven. There are enough single guys here that don't really cook who might actually like the stuff! The website for what we had tonight is: http://www.familybuffet.com/#/baked-beans-with-pulled-pork-and-bbq-sauce. They list several other types, but there is no "Contact Us" or anything on their website: Family Buffet.com. I'll be sending them a snail mail letter tomorrow!
