Fillingless Twinkies
Posted by Dawnstaszak273 on 03/11/2011
I purchased a package of Hostesscakes Strawberry & Creme filled twinkies and to my surprise, neither one of the twinkies had filling. I was very upset to experience that.

I've been eating Hostesscakes products for a long time and never had a problem, until now.

It's bound to happen. Millions and millions of hostess cakes containing creme filled centers are produced each year. Surely, every once in awhile there is a misfire with the procedure. I don't lose any sleep over oddities such as that. If it happened more frequently, then I'd probably start complaining.

There's a strawberries and cream filled twinkie? *putting on my shoes and driving to the store*

What state are you located in? I've also never heard of strawberry filled Twinkies.

Off topic, but I sure do miss Devil Dogs! Can't get them here :(

Strawberry Twinkies been around for a while. Might be called something different in your neck of the woods.

I believe strawberries and cream is a "limited edition."

Imagine that. Limited edition twinkies. There is a god.

There used to be a Hostess store near my old house in Mesa, but it closed. They had the orange Hostess cupakes there. Can't find those now
Posted by jktshff1 on 2011-03-11:
They are good
Posted by Anonymous on 2011-03-11:
ORANGE?? I've never seen one! I want one too!!
Posted by Anonymous on 2011-03-11:
Yeah they had an orange taste and were cream filled. Soooo good.
Posted by Anonymous on 2011-03-11:
The good stuff always does a disappearing act like McD Shamrock shakes, the creamsicle ones and the rootbeer floats :(( Any of those would go quite nicely with those orange cakes.

I used to love those pies that came in apple, cherry, or chocolate. I had one a few months ago, and there was barely any filling. Very dissapointing

I've never seen strawberry twinkies. The closest thing I've tried, and also my all-time favorite, are raspberry zingers (the ones with coconut flakes on them).
Posted by Anonymous on 2011-03-11:
shorty> Funny, but I've noticed the very same thing with those little pies. Where did all the filling go? It's like a half empty shell anymore:(
Posted by Anonymous on 2011-03-11:
I like the vanilla Zingers. That layer of frosting on the top is yummy. Ok, this review is gonna kill my diet cause I am craving something sweet!

Here's a recipe for Twinkies. Now you can make them however you want, without all the additives.

Sounds like an all-day winter project to me :)

Little, Weight Watchers has some delicious deserts. Some of my favorites are the chocolate creme filled cakes and their carrot cakes.

DELICIOUS!!!! Without any guilt :)

Hostess also has the 100 calorie cupcakes. But it's hard to eat just the one pack. I will have to try those Skye. I let myself have a small treat everyday, like a Hershey kiss or a piece of Dove dark chocolate

I buy those for hubby and the kids. Hubby says it's more of a tease, because just as you said, one is not enough, lol.

We all know everything in moderation, but some things I do stay away from, because I know I'll over do it.

I have these magnets on my refrigerator that say:

"A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips".

The other one is a cute little piglet that says:

"Pig out today, tomorrow you pay".

I work next door to a Sees Candy, and I have not gone inside once. I'm proud of myself cause they always give out free samples. Their mint truffle is my favorite.

Wow little, that's a challenge! I'm proud of you.

That's just EVIL.

I walk past Sees everyday on the way to my car (I park in a nearby parking garage). It's hard to just keep walking. I know one day I'm just gonna break down and go in.

I'm hungry for a Banana Flip!!!
Posted by Skye on 2011-03-11:
What's a banana flip?
Posted by DebtorBasher on 2011-03-11:
Little...If you haven't gone inside once....how can their Mint Truffle be your favorite? Do you have someone going inside FOR you? Do they stand outside and give the samples? Hmmmmmmmmm???? LOL!!!
Posted by DebtorBasher on 2011-03-11:
A banana flip is a cake folded over with yellow banana flavor cream inside. I remember my Mom loved those, many people can't find them anywhere anymore, but it's made by Hostess and we have a Hostess Bakery Outlet nearby and they still sell them there.

http://blogs.twincities.com/eat/2008/12/do-you-remember-banana-flips.html

It looks like they also have some that are shaped just like the Twinkies...but the REAL Banana Flips are folded over like a taco...that's why they are called a 'flip'.

Basher, I've never been inside THAT location. I grew up on Sees candy and my sister used to take me there to get a special treat as a kid if I was good. So I've been to other Sees stores. They have them in the malls here and occasionally when I shop I'll get one piece of chocolate. But working next to one takes self control
Posted by Skye on 2011-03-11:
OMG that banana flip looks and sounds delicious. I never heard of them. I guess they never sold them in NY.
Posted by DebtorBasher on 2011-03-11:
You'd love them Skye, they have a real good flavor of Banana. I think I'll have go to the outlet tomorrow and buy me some. I used to take my finger and just scoop the banana flavor cream out of it and lick my fingers...Yummy! I rarely find them in the stores,so I'm lucky to have the Hostess outlet here.

My Heaven would consist of every snack cake on Earth. I love them all, but Hostess brings back the most memories. Snowballs were one of my favorites, especially the pink one!

Hey, wheres the cream filling!?!?

Contact Hostess via Hostesscakes.com or 800-483-7253. They often give a coupon for reasonable complaints.
Posted by Anonymous on 2011-03-12:
Star, I think the point is that the filling is supposed to be there. Sort of like when you order a cheeseburger and it comes without the cheese. I've seen plenty of those complaints and there is really no difference. You should always get what you pay for, no matter how small it seems.
Posted by madconsumer on 2011-03-12:
call the manufacturer, they will send you coupons for free product!! often times they do not know if the equipment failed until someone tells them.

I am very dissatisfied with the cupcakes the filling and the cake are good but the frosting leaves much to be desired very thin and not the same why cheepin the product?

When my beloved Ring Dings, Cherry pies, Yodels, Yankee Doodles, Crumb Cakes Funny Bones and Coconut Cookies went off the markets I was perplexed then I found out that Hostess owns Drakes and I'm so sad. While Hostess Twinkies were never my thing I LOVED Drakes products ! Never once did I hear that Drakes was going to disappear too! I wondered if anyone else knew this?

Yeah, I did. Although I had never heard of them prior to all this goong down. Don't worry, all the recipes will likely be sold to other companies and they anticipate the return of the snack cakes as early as this coming spring.

we can thank the unions for the demise of hostess and their product lines.

Mad, I'm sure the huge bonuses paid to the top dogs didn't help matters either.
Posted by Ben There on 2012-12-24:
We can thank the executives for mismanaging the company. They had one chance to get their affairs in order during the 2004 bankruptcy, but instead managed to wrack up a billion in debt. The front line employees went through several rounds of pay cuts, benefit reductions and give backs to help keep the company afloat... all while the executives in Dallas kept lining their pockets.

Even after the company shut down the company went to the bankruptcy judge to have 1.8 million in bonuses paid to the top managers, while regular employees don't get access to the retirement plans because the executives had been borrowing money from it... Now the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corportation - a government agency - will have to step in and take care of those pensions.

So, yeah, lets blame the minimum wage bakers for this...

They will all likely be back before too long. The wheels are already turning to sell off the brands and factories, and some other company will soon be making them.

JERRY: Gina, do you know what a Drake’s Coffee Cake is?
GINA: Of course, the plane cake with the sweet brown crumbs on the top.
JERRY: How much do they cost?
GINA: The junior?
GEORGE: No, no the full size.
JERRY: No, no the junior.
GEORGE: You didn’t say "junior".
GINA: I haven’t had one of those since I was a little girl.
JERRY: Really? You should be ashamed of yourself.
