Total Scam - Beware - Stay Away
Posted by Reneemb on 03/08/2008
Please do not buy anything from [this company] and if you do, be very careful. This is my story of a very frustrating day I had yesterday that included 3 hours on the phone.

Yesterday I sat down to do some online banking, update checkbook and pay bills. I receive most of my bills online instead of on paper, so I must admit I have neglected really looking at them in detail. Well, big mistake. I just happed to thoroughly check out the charges on my credit card. I came across this weird 9.99 charge from a company called smartsavingscenter.com. Upon a little more research I noticed that this company has been deducting this 9.99 from my account since Sept 2007. It was just such a small charge, I guess it never threw up a red flag.

I called the company and asked what the charge was and how they got my credit card information. The first 10 minutes of the call the representative kept avoiding my question and insisted in telling what a great service I was getting with my membership. I finally had to get very rude and yell at him to tell me how this charge got on my credit card. He finally told me that when I purchased a movie in Sept 2006 (yes I said 2006, 1 ½ years ago) from HotMovieSale it automatically signed me up for a membership at SmartSavingsCenter.

I was so mad I thought my head was going to explode. I told him (in a very loud voice) that I never gave them permission to change anything on my card. And most importantly WHY would they start this so called membership charges 1 year after my purchase. I am sure they do this so people like me miss the charge until it has already cycled on your account a few times.

He told me that he would refund $30 of the $80 dollars they have deducted from my account. I told them that I had already talked to my credit card company and they are ready to dispute the charges, I just need to say the word to get the ball rolling. In addition I told them I was going to report them to the BBB and find some federal department that I can file a fraud report.

The representative put me on hold for a second time, then came back on the line and told me he would refund my entire $80. I asked for a cancellation number and a refund confirmation. I was told it would be e-mail to me in 24-48 hours. As of 10pm tonight I have not received any e-mail. I will give them to Monday, and if I don’t hear from them then jump back into this horrible situation with both feed.

I know this is long winded, but I wanted to inform everyone I can about this scam and hope I can save someone the trouble I had to go through.

You've been charged almost ten dollars per month since last September and just discovered it yesterday? My, my--you must indeed have a very busy social life. I would notice a $9.99 unauthorized charge the first time it hit my statement. I'm surprised you aren't asking someone to start a class action lawsuit.
Posted by Anonymous on 2008-03-08:
Ponie, I agree the OP should have checked the credit card statements more closely. That still does not excuse this company from from placing unauthorized charges on the credit card.
Posted by yk1080 on 2008-09-17:
I do believe hotmoviesale.com is fraud.
You register for a free trial period because they offer you first DVD at discounted price + free shipping. Towards the end of the trial period they tell you the DVD is not in stock and they will ship it later on. If you forget to cancel, they start charging you the monthly subscription. If you cancel, you get nothing out of the "free trial".

Yes, I agree with all three previous posts.
I am a recent victim.
My credit card company is not on my side and still wants me to pay for this unauthorized membership.
I think credit card companies are with them.
I am still fighting though.
Sucker!!!
Posted by sjw on 2009-07-13:
Thanks! I googled the company and found your post after suspecting the prices too good to be true. It is very easy to overlook small payments for quite some time on a frequently used card.
Posted by Justadude on 2009-08-18:
It's all true. This online company that uses trickery to scam you into signing up for a $19.95 monthly membership fee without you ever knowing it. There has got to be a way to stop this scam. Anyone know how to shut them down? I almost got caught up in it. DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY!

If you did get caught, you can always take them to small claims court. If more people did this just for the principle of the matter, then companies would reconsider be so dishonest. I know I was planning on doing so until I convinced them to refund my $19.95.

I am the latest sucker to fall for Smart Savings Center.com, LLC scam. I ordered a “cheap” DVD from their website HotMovieSale.com to try them out and was advised a few days later, the DVD was on back-order. A few weeks later a mystery $9.90 charge appears on my credit card bill that I thought was for the DVD. Not until I called HotMovieSale did I find out it was a monthly membership charge. I wasted my time talking to their rep. Brian (probably fake) and got the run around…you were advised, we sent you emails, it was clearly stated in the micro print, etc. I have no record of any of these emails in my archives, although they were able to quickly fake one up and sent it to me. Note that they send you an email; they do not forward the original email. BTW, the DVD that I originally ordered was covertly cancelled by HotMovieSale so I wonder if they ever intended to sell any DVDs at all. Bottom-line, the rep. stated "we hear you" but there is no way we will reverse the membership fee charge.

Here’s the new twist. I called my credit card company to complain about the sleazy bait and switch tactics and initially they weren’t too receptive either. I pressed on about how many complaints there were about this company (my fault for not conducting a Google search first) and the credit card rep. finally stated that they would reverse the charge. Essentially, it was easier for VISA to eat the unauthorized charges rather than pursue/close-down HotMovieSale and all its aliases. That really annoyed me. How can society put a stop to these kind of cons if there aren’t any penalties…i.e., terminate HotMovieSale and associates from using the VISA charge system. The credit card rep. then asked, “Do I want VISA to reverse these charges or not?” I dismounted my soapbox at that point. But, it is still true; buyer beware because there are no enforceable laws to protect you.

"SCAM" "SCAM" "SCAM" Hotmovies.com "SCAM" "SCAM" "SCAM"
Ordered a game at the beginning of the year on the weekend.
Recieved email that it would be shipped 10 days after I placed the order and paid for 2 day delivery for an additional $5.99, so I called and cancelled the order and membership. Can guess what happened next?

They refunded the membership fee but they still shipped the game disc 3 days after I canceled the order telling them I found it localy.
I have called them 3 times already.
The first time was before it was even processed and shipped for cancelation.
The second was to ask when the money would be put back in my account.
The third was to ask them why they still shipped three days after I canceled, but the answer I got from them was " I will forward this message to my supervisor and they will get back to you whithin 48 hours."

I don't know what to do. Should I refuse delivery?
Any help would be appriciated.

I really don't want to do an "RMA" because this will cost return shipping and a minimum of 2 weeks to get my money back in my account.
Posted by eandl on 2010-01-10:
For justPOed,

If you have proof that you requested cancellation before HMS sent the game then that is all you have to show/explain to your credit card company. If you don't have an email/written proof, I would simply mark the package "Refused" and request the credit card company to cancel the charges. I wouldn't hurt to hand the package personally to your mailperson and strike up a conversation about your problem so he/she might remember this return in case HMS claims they never received it.

I join the list of victims of this $9.99 monthly scam. Luckily I check my account online regularly and spotted the charge the first time it appeared and had it reversed. I am now waiting to see if they actually refund my money as promised.

Thank you for pointing this out, reneemb. I just cancelled a few minutes ago after re-checking my statement and was assured refund in the works (I'll believe it when I see it). Fortunately, I only started dealing with HotMovieScam a few weeks ago. Avoid these scamsters.

Wow. FML. You have got to be kidding me. I read the fine print. I did everything. I ordered a DVD that I thought was too good to be true. Less than 4 dollars for a dvd I've been looking for, and no shipping? So, I ordered it. I was totally aware of the scam they were trying to pull with the 7-day trial of the BestBrandsValues membership for $1.00 and than after a $19.95 monthly fee for the service. I immediately, within minutes called the number to cancel this membership while I was still in the trial period. Does this still mean that I will be charged this mysterious $9.99??? I hope not. I ordered the Dvd last night. Should I call them and tell them to cancel my order and refund my money before they scam me?
Posted by tmn45805 on 2010-07-15:
Same thing happened to me. Yes, I missed the $9.99 charges as I do not have a social life and I use my credit card for business. I caught it in March 2010 and checked prior statements and had been charges $9.99 since Jan 2010. Contacted Hot Movie Sale and asked them why I was getting charged? I purchased a movie online and did not notice as I was checking out that there was a check-box selected that said sign me up for their service. I told the lady I did not even know what "their service" was. She asked me my email and she told me she could setup my account so I could access it. I quickly said No and asked why I have been being charged for a service I obviously did not use. She could not answer that. I asked for the service to be cancelled and for a refund. I have not seen a refund yet.

I am in the midst of an argument with the same company over the same issue. I am only out $30 now but they are refusing to refund the final sum. I have filed a Federal Trade Commission complaint, and a complaint here in Alaska, and will next address the S. Fl. Better Business Bureau.

I want to thank all who posted their bad experiences with HotMovieSales.com on this site. I was about to order a hard-to-find movie for their unbelievably low price of $3.82. I'm so glad I searched and found these reviews, first. Hopefully, I'll be able to return the favor, some day. God bless!

I have been searching for "Boxing Helena" for years. Despite its poor reviews, that film haunts me.

WOW! I was almost duped. Looking to buy a Christmas gift for my husband and "Google'd" the dvd movie title. Saw that the movie had not been released as of yet, but still was excited at the movie prices and "free shipping" AND $5.00 off first purchase. Considering that the price was so low and that I had extra room in my Christmas budget, I decided to add another movie to take advantage of the great deal I was going to get.

Went to the end of my transaction getting ready to add credit card information when I spotted that they were tacking on an additional $2.99 shipping cost. "Hey, WAIT A MINUTE!" I say. I thought it was free shipping on first order. AND...."Where is my $5.00 discount?".
What they DON'T tell you at the beginning of their home page is....the price of the dvd is actually $5.00 more that what they say...but after the $5.00 discount....it comes to the price they are advertising. UGH! And...it's not FREE shipping on the ENTIRE order...just the first item, I guess.

Glad I took a second look and decided to check out this company on Google before buying.

Thank you everyone...for leaving a posting on this forum.

I have reported these people to the Better Business Bureau. I purchased a DVD for my sick daughter in Jan 2011. I was noticing a charge coming out of my acct but I thought my bank was charging me because of all these new fees they started this year. Boy was I wrong. In Oct. 2011 I found out that HotMovieSale.com had been charging me $9.95 a month for ordering one DVD. I went back to the site to do a pretend purchase and nothing states that there is a mandatory membership trial with the purchase of DVD's. This is a scam. PERIOD! I have received $39.90 back but I am still fighting for my other $60 dollars. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE!!

Thanks for all the postings! I order a DVD from HotMovieSale.com last week. I decided to buy another DVD today and did a google search for the company link. Your Scam complaint came up on the first page along with the HotMovieSale.com website link. Before going to the HotMovieSale.com website I checked out your complaint. Immediately I check my credit card account to see if I too was a victum. Sure enough there were two more charges (other than the first charge for the movie I ordered). One for a buck and a second for $19.99. Really? The movie I ordered was only five bucks! I called and canceled the membership immediately through their automated service. I then called back and spoke with a rep and was assured they will be crediting my account in full for the 19.99 amount. They said they will be sending me email conformation within 48 hours. I am calling an canceling that credit card in the morning, just to be safe from anymore attempts. Thank you for the heads up guys ... this could have been so much worst.

SHE CALLED THEM ANED RECORDED THE CALL, AND THEY AGREED TO REFUND 39.90, AND THE CORPORATE OFFICE IS TO CONTACT ME IN 48 HOURS TO DISCUSS THE REST OF THE FEE. I KNOW I'LL NEVER HEAR FROM THEM, BUT I INTEND TO RAISE ALL THE ---- I CAN WITH THE BBB, AND FBI.

HotMovieSale.com Scam. BEWARE
Posted by Makarov417 on 04/06/2010
Like the other reviews of this company I have read, I too just had this same experience today (06/April/2010). When checking my bank account online I discovered a charge for $9.95 from HotMovieSale.com for both March and April and could not figure out what they were for as I have never made a purchase from that company. I called the company to first of all be thanked for being a loyal customer. I explained that I have never bought anything from them. I was then told that when I attempted to order a movie from them in February (an order which was never filled as they did not even have the movie that was advertised) I had enrolled in some sort of "club" and that this membership which cost $9.95 a month was clearly stated at the time I placed the unfilled order. In return for my membership I had saved $5 on that movie. The movie that I never got! While they agreed to cancel my "membership" they refused to refund any of the charges to my account. Stay away from this company... they pull you into their trap by offering new DVD's at prices lower than anywhere else. In the process of getting your "bargain" you inadvertently get signed up for a wonderful program that will give you even MORE super discounts for just $9.95 per month!
Reputable websites make you click in a box that you agree to the terms of the deal BEFORE you are allowed to proceed. The website at HotMovieSale.com contains a reduced sized window within the primary page and tells you that by clicking below you can become a member of their club and get super bargains. The fine print about paying for this membership has been placed so far below the "join" button that the construction of the window makes it invisible. The fine print can only be seen if you notice the scroll down slider off to the side and pull the screen down. VERY INTENTIONALLY DESIGNED TO DECIEVE.
On April 7th, I filed complaints with both The Florida Attorney Generals Office and The Better Business Bureau of West Palm Beach Florida as HotMovieSale.com is located in Boca Raton. You can do the same at: www.bbbsoutheastflorida.org

UPDATE: Just for the heck of it I called HotMovieSale.com one more time and explained that I had just spent 45 minutes reading consumer complaints about their company and that I was on to their scam. I then told them that although I had already filed the above described complaints I would be willing to cancel them if my money was promptly returned. After being on hold no more than 30 seconds the agent came back to inform me that I would have the $19.90 back in my account in 7-10 days. I thanked her and asked for an e-mail confirming this decision and one was received. I don't have the money yet but I have no reason to doubt that it will arrive as promised. Maybe this is a good tactic to use to cut to-the-chase and get your money back? Let them know you are wise to their tactics and that you WILL take action. Give a try!

What is so sad is this is becoming the norm of internet companies. This is not a rare occurrence. They are knowingly deceiving people and covering it up in fine print. If they don't feel they are doing anything wrong than why not inform/warn your customers of this deal at the time of purchase. And to NOT receive any merchandise and still be enrolled is legalized fraud.

Scammed by HotMovieSale.com
Posted by Scammed By Hot MovieSale on 01/27/2010
I ordered a DVD from HotMovieSale.com in December 2009. It was for a Christmas present for my Son. According to the information listed, it wasn't due for release until December 23. I was enticed to buy from them because they offered a $5 discount and free-shipping for first time buyers. The following week I received an e-mail notice that the video hadn't been sent yet. I continued to receive these notices for about a month. Finally I checked my HotMovieSale.com account to see if I could find any additional information as to why there was a hold-up. The account information stated that the order had been cancelled. I never received an e-mail or any explanation for why the order was cancelled. I then checked my checking account and found that I had been charged two payments of $9.95. The original price of the DVD I never received was $14.95 and I was astounded that I had already been charged $19.90 for a DVD that I will never see. I thought a mistake must have been made by the company but was shocked when they sent me an e-mail explaining that I had signed up for Best Brand Values and had agreed to pay a monthly fee. This is a blatant scam. Have you ever heard the old adage "read the fine print"? Well, obviously HotMovieSale.com/Best Brand Values is taking advantage of consumers by making a blatantly deceptive offer in which somewhere there is wording to the effect that their is a monthly charge. Then they don't send you the movie you ordered and they pocket the monthly charge money. I was lucky that I noticed this charge was coming out of my account and after receiving this latest e-mail from HotMovieSale.com/Best Brand Values, I cancelled my membership. Honestly, I had never even heard of Best Brand Values until they told me I had signed up for a monthly membership. I certainly read things (I thought) very carefully before signing up for anything. Unfortunately, I wasn't expecting such a scam from a video retailer. The information is there. But it is not made obvious to the consumer. It is very deceptive. This is just a warning to anyone who is considering buying anything from this company. Read the fine print.

I see the deceptiveness, but I just went to the website, and acted like i was purchasing a DVD. Before checkout, it says save $5 on your order if you sign up. Most of the case, these offers mean you have to sign up for a membership. And of course this was at the bottom. "You can take immediate advantage of big discounts with the BestBrandValues service as described on this site for only a $9.95 monthly membership fee, billed to the credit card or debit card you provide today. Your membership will be automatically renewed monthly at the then-current monthly fee, billed to the credit or debit card you authorize. If you choose to discontinue, simply call us 24/7 toll-free at 866-529-3413 to cancel, no questions asked. There is no obligation to continue."

It may be deceptive, but common sense should have told you that you save $5 to get charged $10 a month. Not really a savings.

I would contact the company and tell them to credit your account for the charge of the DVD if you never got it, or dispute the charge.

Big Rip-off!
Posted by JonasBrothers on 10/12/2007
I found Hotmoviesale.com on google and noticed the DVD I wanted was cheaper than all of the rest of them. I had my dad buy it on the computer on AUGUST 6, 2007. It's OCTOBER 12, 2007... no DVD. I had my mom call them and they said what I paid for was a membership. There was no indication of it whatsoever. They said they sent a clear notification to my dad's e-mail, but they didn't.

Now the $15.00 is gone, and no DVD.

**The DVD was The Suite Life of Zack & Cody: Sweet Suite Victory.**

Posted by Suusan B. on 2007-10-12:
I just looked at Hotmoviesale.com and in the upper left corner is a ditty saying "Get $5.00 off and free shipping on your first order" and then under that, in tiny font, it says "with 7-day free membership trial". If you wind your way through this website, the membership pertains to Smart Savings Center. It appears Dad might have hit something wrong when he was placing your order because people are always asked to accept Terms and Conditions when joining these things.

Aside from not getting your DVD your Dad most likly has a bigger problem in that he joined something that costs $9.99 for the first three months and $14.99 every month thereafter and all of this money is going to come out of the credit or debit cards account he entered.

Fraudulent Billing
Posted by 3cmanny on 01/30/2010
Sometime in October 2009, I ordered for Michael Jackson and 2live Crews DVD and was told it was out of stock by email( One or more of the items you have ordered are not currently available.
We will do our best to ship the ordered item(s) to you as soon as possible.
You will be notified by email when the item(s) ship.

Item(s) to be sent later:

Item Description: 2 Live Crew-greatest Hits Video (DVD)
Item Number: KCH DLJR5D
Quantity: 1)

Then in December I saw a bill on my Visa debit card so I thought this company has finally found my DVD and will soon ship it to me. I have already received the other copies which I paid for but as I am writing now, I have yet to receive that very DVD and I just saw this charge again on my card and I decided to find out about the company. Here and behold, people are already complaining about this company. I am someone who do not try any membership service either online or by mail, never. I made that decision over 10 years ago and I have never tried any membership service since then. They must have a fraudulent way of signing me up because I simply do not sign up for trial nothing. This is simple fraud.
I just spoke with someone in their customer service department and I was told that the membership has been cancelled and a refund will follow in 5 to 7 business days.

Unseen membership at point of purchase
Posted by Ripped off also on 07/18/2009
I too bought a great priced DVD movie and I had thought that if I didn't accept any promotions that was the end of it until I got my card statement to find a 19.95 charge for a membership I did not authorize. I called the support number to BestBrandValues and was directed to a paragraph at the bottom of the confirmation of my order to find the membership was automatically added to the bill if I didn't reply in three days.

I didn't authorize any application for membership, I didn't accept or decline any sales pitch. I need to add the conformation e-mail came from an "BestBrandValues.com" I dint know if they are the same business.

I hope I can save you from this mistake that I made.

Update, as of 7/27/2009 I have lodged a complaint with the local BBB and have activated the dispute system on my credit card and they say that the problem will be investigated.

Final Update, I spoke to a sharp man at my bank / fraud investigator and he knew just what to say to Hotmoviesales.com customer support and my charges were reversed. So call your bank!!

Hotmoviesale.com is VERY deceptive with this practice and they need to be stopped.

This Company Will Scam Your Credit Card
Posted by MADASHELLTOO on 07/14/2009
BOCA RATON, FLORIDA -- I ordered a movie online with this company and was charged 5.52 For the movie. Today I am doing some online banking and find a charge for a membership of 19.95. When I called the company they said they would cancel the membership and gave me a cancellation number. But they would not be able to refund the charge since it had been three days since I ordered the movie.

I told them that I declined anything after the purchase and that I did not authorize the charge and will have my bank reverse it and thus I am warning all of you beware this company's practices.

You may find that since you gave them your account information, your bank may not be willing or able to reverse the charge. You should never give your account information online, it is an invitation to disaster. Always use a credit card, where you will have recourse through the credit card company in case of a dispute.

They DO have a membership to buy their crappy vids..but what rubbish that is! Who would think you'd be signing up for a membership to buy ordinary videos at soso prices..live and learn.

You can get used videos for like 5 bucks ea at Hollywood and they're current!

Hot Movie Sale Ripoff
Posted by 2broke on 01/23/2010
I responded to an add on this company's website (hotmoviesale.com) in December 2009 due to their low discount prices. I ordered a DVD because I could not find it anywhere else for the price they were selling. It also included a $5 discount for being a "first-time" customer.

My billing information was submitted and I received a confirmation email stating that my order had been received with the price of the DVD. There was a note on the email stating that the DVD I ordered was out of stock and gave a specific date for shipment. It also contained a statement that my credit card would not be billed until the item was actually shipped.

About a week later I was doing my online banking and discovered that a charge for $9.95 had been deducted from my credit card from this company. I went to the company's website to verify that my DVD had not been shipped. I discovered that the only charge appearing on my page was a $1.00 processing fee and the cost of the DVD--which was not $9.95.

I immediately tried calling Hot Movie Sale at the numbers provided on my confirmation email to get an explanation of the $9.95 charge. I was literally trapped in a voice mail "jail" for 2 days. Each time I would get menu option choices and after making my selection, I would be greeted with loud background music for 10 or 15 minutes. I would call back and choose another option--the same thing. I would call a third time and select the "operator" choice. The message would say that there is a high volume of calls and that I may want to call back or select an option to leave a message. After selecting that option, another recorded message would say that the mailbox is full!

I went back to the website and sent them an email ("support ticket")about the $9.95 charge. After waiting 2 weeks, I finally received their response (generic of course):

1. When I placed my order with them I joined a Best Brand Value Club for $19.95 a month. My first month included a "special promotion" for becoming a new member and that is why it was only $9.95.

2. The terms of my order was clearly stated at the left of the checkout screen informing me that this charge was going to be deducted from my credit card each month for membership.

3. I had 3 days to cancel my membership and, since I did not cancel the membership within that time period, the amount was deducted from my account.

4. I received an email from Best Brand Value welcoming me to their club and providing information on my membership benefits.

Of course, most of the statements in their response were not true. Although there is a statement in very small print that informs customers about the club plan, there is also an option to "skip" that offer and proceed to the checkout. If a customer skips the offer, they are still billed for the club membership.

In the meantime, I received an email every week "reminding" me that my DVD was on back order and that it would be shipped soon. The original shipment date was pushed back 2 weeks by the time I received my 4th reminder email.

I contacted Hot Movie Sale again and told them that I had not agreed to join any club and that the charges to my card were unauthorized. I never received an email from the Best Brand Value and that I had only received a confirmation and emails reminding me of my back ordered DVD. I requested a refund of the $9.95 refund and to cancel everything that I had ever ordered from them because I was not willing to wait any longer. I also told them I would report them to BBB. I received a reply back that they were going to refund my charges but so far I have not received anything.

I have reported this company to the Better Business Bureau and my state's Attorney General's office. This is a scam company and I want to say to everyone to be careful of company's such as this one that offers discount prices for DVDs and other entertainment.

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM HOT MOVIE SALE!

Sites such as those probably sell bootleg movies (usually films still in the theaters, in which someone snuck a camcorder into the theater to record it), or, most likely, movies and TV series, in which the film companies have no plans on legitimately releasing, usually due to complex rights/royalties issues or low demand...examples include the 1966-68 "Batman" TV series, which was never released to DVD due to complex rights/royalties issues that have been negotiated for years with no success; the main sticking point being is that 20th Century Fox owns the rights to the series itself, but Time Warner subsidiary DC Comics owns the rights to the "Batman" characters. "Batman" is one of the most bootlegged TV series DVD's out there. Also, the 1948 Walt Disney film "Song Of The South" is commonly bootlegged, since Disney chose not to release "SOTS" due to "political correctness" reasons...some people think "Song Of The South" is racist. Most "SOTS" bootlegs come from either the British VHS release or the Hong Kong laserdisc release from the late 1980's. "SOTS" was never legitimately released on VHS or DVD in the US, and has not been shown in theaters since 1986. There are many other movies and TV series out there that will never see a legitimate DVD release for one reason or another. That's what the bootleggers and pirates thrive on.

This is the site we buy from. We love horror movies and they always have off the beaten path movies, good prices and always free shipping.

I guarantee they are excellent. They are the real deal, nothing bootleg or some cheap, crappy in theatre copies. What you see is what you get, the actual movie. They also have games, books, posters. Cool stuff. Plus, they do not require some rip off membership nonsense.

I've bought from Deep Discount DVD before, and have been happy. The OP is referring to a site that may or may not be legit...I didn't visit hotmoviesale.com, but there are sites out there that claim to offer "hard to find titles", often those that are either from third-party companies not affiliated with the Hollywood studios, or bootleg/illicit copies of movies and TV shows that never saw a legit DVD release. Often times the bootlegs are of poor quality.

I was just giving the OP a real site, that doesn't require a membership to receive the good prices.

Hotmoviesale.com is a legit site; however, there are other websites that sell movies that aren't on the level.

hell any site that doesn't require membership is good
amazon is one
online book stores that carry movies
even ebay is better

Hotmoviesale.com Unauthorized Charges
Posted by SKeith on 10/12/2010
BOCA RATON, FLORIDA -- Bought a DVD for $3.48 (includes the $5 discount) on April 2009. Unknowingly, I was signed up for their SMART SAVINGS CENTER membership and charged $12 per month until I noticed the charges on Sep 2010. Since I was not the primary person responsible for this account, I did not noticed it before. Called immediately and was offered a 2 month refund, and after continuing to request a full refund, they offered to send my case to their refund department, who issued me an additional month of refund a week later, but said I did not "qualify" for more. Even after membership cancellation, they continue to charge my account. They are total scammers!

What to do if you are scammed?

Step 1 - Call immediately and request the maximum refund (90 days)
Step 2 - Call your credit card company and request a stop of any charges coming from these scammers. These are considered disputes and will automatically be charge backs to the Company, which cost them $$$
Step 3 - File complaints to BBB in FL, FTC Consumer Protection, Attorney General Office in FL (look for the open case)
Step 4 - Lesson learned - buy from reputable merchants

Since this happened to you in April 2009, it's hard to say what disclaimer they had on their website, but I see now it says the following on their homepage:

Offer Details

By placing your order today you will begin a 7-day trial of BestBrandValues for only $1, providing access to big discounts and savings on top brand products. After the trial, the membership fee of $19.95 per month will be charged or debited by BestBrandValues to the credit or debit card you provide today and then be automatically charged or debited at the then-current monthly membership fee for each month that you continue your membership. You may cancel at any time by calling 1-866-529-3413 and if you cancel your membership before the end of the trial period, you will not be billed for the monthly membership fee. Only one membership per household permitted. To order items without having a membership, click here.

The disclaimer has always been there. This has been an on going issue with complaints against this movie site.

People need to read everything before they just point and click. There are so many other great on line site to buy movies, that DO NOT require any type of "special" membership.

Consumer Beware
Posted by Barney1965 on 02/09/2010
BOCA RATON, FLORIDA -- Wow - I wish I would have read these comments before. I bought two DVDs - did not realize there was a "membership" attached. I was getting charged 9.95 a month for unknown benefits. I called them and told them that the internet had several comments about them being a scam and they said that was someone else's opinion. They won't refund me but at least I caught it before it got too far. My credit card company put a fraud note and cancelled my card before they could charge me anymore. Beware of this "membership".

Although I know this is a membership scam, this company preys on people who don't pay attention when buying a movie on their website. It clearly states "save 5 dollars" and underneath the writing says you sign up for a membership of $9.95 a month. You just need to be more careful when you purchase something online, and read everything before you click.

A lot of these sleazy operation are hoping that most people will not notice the small $10 charge each month. They can get away with it for months sometimes if the $10 is buried deep within a persons CC statement, or if you have paperless billing you may not even open the online statement and just pay it.
