Bad Cheating Policy - They Forbid Leftover Boxes!!
Posted by on
SPOKANE, WASHINGTON -- Hu Hot's food is very good. But their policy is horrible and they are cheating the consumer. My daughter and I went there for dinner as we have many times. She ate barely anything of her $10 plate. I asked for a take out box. They refused. The manager refused. They are afraid people will go make another serving just to take home. I didn't even know they had "all you can eat" as it is not posted anywhere. When I mentioned this, they say its in the menu, but we never received menus. You just go up and make your own. On their website I see that soup and salad is part of the regular dinner menu. We have never been offered either and we have gone numerous times. Nor does the website say that there is a no to go box policy. They are often out of ingredients yet they post combinations for you to create your meal....then those ingredients are out!!! They should then take down those suggested combinations. After my experience (one month ago) I wrote to the particular restaurant (spokane, Washington) and also to corporate via the website and no response from either. That says much about the organization as a whole. I will never set foot there again. If they bothered to have replied to me, I probably would have. But not if that is how they run. Good food but HORRIBLE policy and management. Not even nice about it.

No take out boxes is common sense for a buffet!!

Since you can go back again to have your 'creation' prepared, it definitely is a buffet type restaurant. jenjenn is right--never take out boxes at a buffet. One exception: Some buffet restaurants allow you to fill a take out box, pay for it at the regular dinner/lunch price, provided you don't eat inside the restaurant. One near my neighborhood charges by the pound in this case.

We have a place like Ponie said. But you can't sit there and eat and then ask for a take-out box.

I hate places that charge by the pound. It's humiliating stepping on those scales. It's cruel to those of who are gravitationally disadvantaged and expensive as well.

Have the SALAD, Stewart!

Stew...you're too funny.

Yep...Hu Hot is a buffet. You slide your way through various food stations and serve your own food or order up at the grill. So typically they would not want to provide take out boxes as buffets don't either. Eat your fill while you're there.

Imagine how many people would stuff those take home boxes with food. The restaurant would go broke.

You want a take home box, got to a place that serves the meal right to you, on a plate, and then you can take home what you didn't finish.

As mentioned, just like any other buffet/AYCE, this is standard practice.
And as for the paid-for takeout, yes, that is an option. You come in, pay the dinner price, and go through the line as usual. At the end, the cooks put it in a to-go box for you, and you pay the host.
You are also allowed to take home any leftover appetizers, desserts, soup or salad. Just not line products.
And it would be impossible to have every type of veggie or meat on the line that is suggested on the recipe wall; not enough space. I suppose they could just stop offering some things altogether, if that would make you happier. But, as much as its disappointing to not have a certain ingredient when you want it, I'd rather know that they have all those options that occasionally change day to day.

Love huhot. Restaurants have policies for a reason. Respect that. Yell at your kid not the workers. If she didn't like her choice she could have gone back again. Plus 10 year olds are $4.99 not $10
