TV warranty
Posted by Carl12345 on 01/19/2007
LEESBURG, FLORIDA -- I bought a TV at store #1241 to use in Florida. I'm in Florida now as of oct 15th and hooked up tv. It work for about 3 mo. and locked up on channel six. Took back to wal-mart but warranty 90 day ran out. They gave me phone no. to call, but can never get thru. Go to leave message box is aways full. Have been doing this for two weeks now with no success. Also e-mail them with no success, saying will call you back within 48 hrs. So took it to repair shop , they said it would cost 500 dollars to repair. Would like some help to get it fixed or replaced.

Is this the number you have been calling?

They only have a 90 day labor warranty so you'll probably still have to pay for that.

Good luck!!

The Ilo TVs sold by WalMart are made in China, not by the company in Germany by the same name. Their web pages state as much and they do no support the Chinese models.

From my research it looks like you may have a hard time finding a shop that will even look at the set let alone trying to fix it.

I also looked for the service code that would gain access to the service menu in order to reset the firmware. The 26" set is manufactured by either Toshiba or RCA. Some say the Toshiba codes work and others say it does not.

The 90 day warranty appears to only be good at WalMart. They will either replace the set or refund your money. After the 90 days you are stuck with it.

Just discovered the TV is really made by Orion. They also make the Insignia sets for Best Buy. There is a service code available and instructions which I have copied from elsewhere. If you decide to take the plunge please be aware that I take no responsibility if something should go wrong.

WARNING: Do NOT adjust any settings without writing down the existing setting first! Any changes you make have the potential to screw up your TV!

As the Service Menu requires a video input from AV1, I suggest you connect a video source connected up. My TV's power on default is AV1 - maybe you should do the same before going any further.

1) Power off the TV at the front panel MAINS switch or pull the mains plug etc.

2) Whilst holding down the MENU button under the flap on the front of the TV turn the power on.

3) Release the MENU button when the standby LED is lit.

4) Press the red standby button on the TV remote. The TV will now switch on and be in service mode. Wait a couple of seconds and a 'menu' will appear. Note, in normal mode, the red standby button on the remote does only that - it doesn't power up the TV.

5) Press P+ and P- to scroll up and down through the menu. Use this opportunity to write down the settings (see warning above) - this list is not infinite.

6) Press vol- and vol+ to make changes. Now the menu begins to make sense because to me it is not intuitive

7) If you press vol- or vol+ when INIT CTV###### is displayed then YOU WILL RESET THE TV to factory defaults and factory defaults are before the TV was aligned at the factory - you have been warned - and boy, was I glad I had
bothered to make a list.

One other item I noticed in my research. Reportedly the Ilo LCD HD sets are not truly HD. They digitally enhance the image to make them appear as HD.

Ah, the power of the Internet. So much info available if only people would take a few minutes to look.

hello carl12345 have you tried contacting www.labbb.org
because though people like brenda can continue to suggest you to call 800-216-5156, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Mon-Fri" you will always get "never get thru. Go to leave message box is aways full. Have been doing this for two weeks now with no success" email won't work also. The worst thing that can happen if you contact BBB is that you will get a call from a certain Robert insinuating that you never called or left a message to them but you will finally get a call from initialdvd. Goodluck
