New Kraft Mayonnaise

LINDEN, ALABAMA -- I am a long time customer of Kraft Mayonnaise until I recently purchased a jar with new packaging. Upon first taste, I knew this was not the Kraft Mayo that I had been using for year. Called the Kraft phone number on jar, gave them the bar code and they confirmed my fears that the recipe had been changed.

I then threw the Kraft jar of Mayo away and purchased Hellman's. I sure hate to see Kraft do this to one of the best mayo recipes ever!

many companies are changing recipies. if you truely want mayo, you are better off with hellmans.

I have to wholeheartedly agree with the OP. The new Kraft mayo is just nasty. I think they must have also changed their recipe for ranch dressing because it's pretty icky, too. I just bought groceries today and, of course, Kraft was on sale and Best Foods (a.k.a. Hellman's) wasn't. I wound up getting Miracle Whip instead.

Are you referring to the regular Kraft mayo? If so, I best trot on down and see if there's any of the old still left on the shelf. If the receipe has been changed it's probably due to new restrictions. Yea, those restrictions made by those who determine what is best for us since we can't decide for ourselves.

Its Hellmen's on one coast and Best Foods on the other, just can't remember which is which. I was raised on Miracle Whip and use it too this day....but I never used much, a pint jar leasts several months for me...Starlord uses a lot more and he also prefers Miracle Whip.

Miracle Whip Salad Dressing is what I always use...the only time I use Hellman's is when I make Macaroni salad or potato salad, then I use Half of each. Make sure you didn't accidentally get the "Light" mayo, that stuff is nasty! My Dad accindentally gets that now and then...it ends up in the garbage if he doesn't notice it before he opens it.

I grew up on Miracle Whip too. The "light" tastes just as good as the regular. Unfortunately my boyfriend hates the stuff so I have to buy Miracle Whip and Mayo. And I have to make two different batches of everything, like egg salad or potato salad. I just wish he'd convert to the other side.

It's Hellman's in the east and Best Foods in the west (I'm in Oregon). The label on my Best Foods jar says that it's also called Hellman's. I wonder if the Hellman's jars says it's also called Best Foods.

Kraft's reformulated mayonnaise is overly sweet, thin, horrible stuff, clearly an attempt to cheapen a product and trade upon its brand. Shame on you, Kraft. Obviously people aren't fooled. Hellman's is better. Duke's, a southern brand with limited distribution (can be bought on the Internet), is the best commercial mayo available in the U.S.

Hellman's Light Mayonaise is the WORST thing I have ever tasted. Threw the whole jar out! I like the regular mayonaise and I love Miracle Whip Light.

Who cut the cheese?

Although macaroni & cheese is not in the same class as the other culinary delights usually posted and discussed on M3C, it has been a staple in our household for many years. Lately, it seems to me that the quality of the cheese has diminished. Is it just me, or does anyone else feel as though they have changed? Perhaps its the type of cheese they use. Maybe they switched vendors or suppliers, but it just doesn't seem to have the thick flavory quality it used to. Anymore, I'm forced to add an extra packet of cheese, just so the noodles aren't so bland. A favorite of ours is to melt the jalepeno Velveeta Cheese and use that instead. I use the macaroni and cheese as a base for several variations of meals like tuna casserole, hamburger helpers, etc...Sad to say, I've found that the "house" brands tend to have a richer flavor and darker yellow tint, instead of the pale and bland Kraft. What went wrong with one of my favorite childhood snacks?

I was raised on Kraft mac & cheese, and I thought my tastes were changing with age. I am glad to see that it is not just me. Dryad, watch your message center. So far, the store brands we have tried have failed to impress me. One was even a light brown. Ugh!

I swear my youngest sister lived on this in college: 1 box mac-n-cheese, prepared, 1 can cream of mushroom soup, 1 can of tuna, some peas. Then, she would mix it all together. It was actually kinda good.

We use the Velveeta Shells and Cheese. No milk needed. It's thick, creamy and tasts very good without having to add anything exta (though we sometimes do for a different tast ^_~).

Mrs.V +100 I forgot about those. We too buy those and they are very thick and creamy. That's the way that I remember the Kraft macaroni being back in the day. Something definitely changed:(

I have two gourmet tips for Kraft M&C: if you are doing the box kind, after you drain your macaroni, don't put it back in the pan (yet). Instead, add your milk, butter and the packet, over low heeat, and sttir until it is a creamy sauce. THEN add the macaroni back. HUGE difference.
]For the Velveeta and shells, throw the foil packet of sauce in with the boiling noodles for the last 4 or 5 minutes. It will mix much easily, and be creamier.

A few years back, Kraft packaged the cheese powder separately in a shaker container, for sprinkling on popcorn. Does anyone know if it is still available anywhere? It was awesome.

Obsfucation, you can buy all types of popcorn seasonings that are pretty good. I have some from Kernel Season's in my pantry right now - white cheddar, butter, and caramel. I think I got them at Kroger.

cream of chicken also works well, J4A. Pretty much any of the "cream of" soups work -- just depends on which flavor you want.

I like to add ham pieces (my nephew likes sliced hotdogs in his) to my mac and cheese along with just a bit of salt/pepper/thyme/sometimes paprika. Also 1 or 2 slices of munster cheese ^_^

Your observations are correct from what I have witnessed. Kraft HAS changed the recipe. I first noticed the change about 5 years ago.

At the time, my grocery would carry Kraft Macaroni and Cheese, however, some boxes listed 600mg of sodium and others listed only 580mg of sodium in the nutritional facts, despite no change in portion size. Bear in mind that this is a minimal change in sodium itself, but clearly reflects a greater change in their overall recipe. Long story short, the 600mg boxes tasted delicious, like the ones I had growing up, and the 580mg boxes were bland, less cheesy, and less characteristically "orange" upon preparation. Sadly the 600mg have since been completely phased out, and the 580mg are all that I can find on the market today.
(These observations refer only to the marked "original" recipe boxes, and explicitly not to the "shapes" or other forms of Kraft macaroni)

RANCID TACO SHELLS

We recently purchased 6 boxes of TACOBELL taco shells made by Kraft Foods. Every single box of shells is rancid, they smell horrible and we've had to throw all of them out. I searched the entire Kraft Foods website looking for a place to enter a complaint and none such exists. I've never encountered a website by a major company that didn't have a complaint center and offered some resolution to your complaint and discontent. Kraft offers none of that on their website. I will never buy TacoBell products from Kraft again, the smell of the taco shells was enough to take away your appetite!

I think instead of tossing them out you should have returned them to the store. You got a bad product. It happens. No need to boycott vendor or grocery for an error. Geesh.

Complaints like these make me roll my eyes. Toss it out and lose the money instead of returning yet complain all over the net.

My daughter went to make them about an hour ago, and my entire house smells like really old oil....@Mr. Anonmous..the shells smell so bad that I can not even put them in my car to take them back to the store and my kids can not stop coughing from the smell. BTW..this is the first complaint I have ever displayed about any type of product.

WATSONVILLE, CALIFORNIA -- The ad for Kraft Zesty Salad Dressing is not only in stupid bad taste, but it is in stupid bad taste.

Having a guy's shirt catch on fire when he's cooking with a salad dressing and of course his chest is shiny and ripped..

Who ARE the ad people that comes up with this stuff. I certainly hope women across USA don't find this sexy.

It's right up there with the Liquid Plummer..snake your drain ad. Geez

In the advertising industry it's been known for a very long time that sex sells. In the two ads you mention the sexual references are obvious. Take a look at ads for other things and you will see many rather subtle sex references. Mostly they are subliminal, but sometime very clear. Ads for alcoholic beverages contain references to not only sex but death as well.

Search for subliminal messages in advertising. Then be prepared to be really shocked at what you've seen without really noticing it. There is nothing in an ad that isn't accidental.

I purchased a box of Crystal Light to go natural lemonade. 5 of the 10 packets were a solid lump and the inside bottom of the box has the hardened product also. the backs of the damaged packets seem to not have been sealed properly by the machine.

Look for a phone number or email on the package and call them about it. Chances are good they will send you a coupon for a free box. They will want the numbers from the box. Posting it on this site will not get you anything.

It was discontinued in 2007, but by May 2012, a small company, Eliza’s Quest Food, obtained the trademark to the Postum name. As of July 14, 2012 Postum is being sold through the Postum.com website. Eliza’s Quest Food is working on placing the product back into stores.

False Advertising and Aspartame Poisoning

SOUTH BEND, INDIANA -- My fiance and I try to eat and drink as natural as possible. His mother gave us a container of Crystal Light Natural Lemonade packets. I saw the word "natural" in larger print and didn't think to look on the back for any serious additives. One packet makes 1 quart of lemonade. We had been drinking this lemonade for a total of about three weeks, during this time frame my fiance started feeling muscle pains in his back, abdominal and groin. We didn't think much of this until the pain started increasing as well as unusual fatigue and headache. This past Saturday, my fiance and soon to be father of my child was rushed to the hospital by an ambulance. That morning he woke up with severe lower back pain and nausea. He then suffered a seizure and that is when I called 911. After suffering intense pain, a CAT scan revealed that he had passed two kidney stones to his bladder. My fiance has never had a seizure or kidney problems prior to consuming aspartame in this product.

I would like some sort of compensation for false advertisement, and the grief and stress this has caused my family and unborn child. If I don't at least receive an apology, I will be sure to inform my whole community of the dangers lurking in Kraft Foods products.

kidney stones take time to form. i am not sure if they can form in a few weeks. there are several means of kidney stones, but most common is from calcium buildup from not drinking enough water.

I thought everyone knew Crystal Light was a diet drink. Right on the container it states 35% fewer calories. I am very sensitive to things that are put in "light" chips (olestra). You better bet if I happen to run across a bag of those I read the label before I risk eating any of them.

I never understood why my lemonade mix uses artificial flavors while my dishwashing detergent has real lemon juice. I also have to say that the juxtaposition between the drinking of the lemonade and passing kidney stones are unrelated. Events that happen closely are not necessarily cause and effect. One night, I changed the batteries in my flashlight, and a white powder came out and got all over my patrol car, including my coffee. After I got off shift, I got sick, and I thought it was poisoning by the white powder. It turned out I had a bad gall bladder that had nothing to do with the powder, which was apparently corrosion from the batteries.

We took back some Salmon we bought from Meijer last night. What Meijer does, I have been told by workers, is wash old fish with water to get rid of as much of the bad smell and then put it back to sell again. When fish is bad, you can tell when you try to eat it. Also, it is a good idea to ask to smell the fish before you buy it---that is if it is not already in a package. I don't think buying fish already wrapped in plastic is a good or safe idea in the first place.

Bottom line, when you get bad food, always take it back and get your money refunded. Most people just throw it away. That only encourages stores to sell outdated or bad food.

I'm not a fan of Kraft cottage cheese in general. I almost always get the store brands. Actually, Prairie Farms makes really good cottage cheese too.

I love Cottage Cheese but Kraft Cottage Cheese is AWFUlL. Creamland Cottage Cheese is 10000000 times better. Sorry Kraft I still like the Mac and Cheese.

Strange taste/texture of food item purchased

FRISCO, TEXAS -- I typically love Kraft Simply Fat Free cottage cheese; I actually drive out of my way to a specific store to purchase it. However, my latest purchase (January 30th, 2012) has made me reconsider future purchases. The cottage cheese had a strange smell/texture upon opening the package, which was not expired. The taste was very bland (NOT typical of this product!) and the consistency was very thin and runny - almost like soup.

I am extremely disappointed, as I have to make a special trip to purchase this product. I am not sure if this is an isolated incident or if there have been recent changes in this product's manufacturing process. It is a bit more expensive than my grocery store brands, so I hate to try again if there have been recent changes made.

Did you pick up the unsalted version by mistake? I did that once and couldn't believe how tasteless it was. I don't like salt, but certain foods must have it, like cottage cheese. That wouldn't account for the consistency though.

Call the 800 number on the container and let them know. Have the container handy when you make the call in case they need any identifying info from it.

I tried Kraft sour cream and relly liked it so when I saw the cottage cheese I bought it. It was the regular kind and everything was fine but the taste. It's different enough that I won't buy it again.

This was my first purchase of Kraft Simply Cottage Cheese - when I opened it, I was sure it was either spoiled or the wrong product because of the weird texture. I did taste it to determine it wasn't spoiled, but it is too unpleasant in texture and flavor to be described as cottage cheese.

I got sick from Simply Kraft Fat Free Cottage Cheese Small Curd 24 oz. (from Walmart) [Sell before August 29 2012 18:41 TS2 PLANT 06-246 It had a strant smell (yes) so I ttried to "sweeten" it with Splenda, curry powder and cinnamon but it made me (seriously) sick for several days. The USDA does not accept complaints about food from consumers (Obama's rules) and neither does California (state government). Neither does Kraft.. so there is no place to report it (unless it kills you and then maybe the fire department can report it). In any case I got very sick from it. Now I see to be over it. If it smells bad -- it is bad. It was expensive but it is not worth being killed.

I tried this for the first time on 4/11/13 when I ate it for lunch. Within 45 minutes I had severe abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea. I ended up in the emergency room with suspected food poisoning. Then, six days later, during a routine examination, I was diagnosed with a streptococcus infection in my bladder.

I purchased CB Extra Sharp Cheddar made with 2% milk from Rainbow Foods in St. Paul, MN.

It was uneatable and very bland

This is the best cottage Cheese I have ever eaten. It is tooooooo bad that you can only get it at Walmart. They never stock the no fat version. It is creamy, solid, and taste more like cheese instead of rotten milk.

Surprised about all the complaints! I typically get off-brand to save $, but I have gotten a few jars of Kraft's Simply cottage cheese and it's the best I've ever eaten! The texture and taste are perfect. It seems people must have gotten bad batches, because this stuff is great

Well, if you do, then you have stumbled upon the right review my friend. There has been so much talk lately in the news and on gripe sites about various fast food chains altering their formula for success by switching the type of salt used on their french fries, that I felt obliged to weigh in on the subject.

However, my review is actually catered towards the protein packing peanuts from Planters. My wife bought a can from a bulk store, so it has been lasting us quite some time. I believe it's 3-lbs & 8-0z. I actually didn't notice until tonight. I have the can sitting next to my desktop at home, and I've been munching as I spend some down time on the net. I was reading some comments in regards to sea salt, when I glanced down and low and behold, right there on the can are the words, "Made with pure sea salt".

And to think that I've been munching away all week and hadn't noticed? Long story short, there may be a slight difference, but not enough for me to notice. These mixed nuts are delicious. They contain peanuts, almonds, cashews, brazil nuts, hazelnuts, and pecans. A wide variety for all you picky eaters out there in the world. I have a 3-lb can, so anyone else that is craving some protein, help yourself to my nuts.

Looks like just a marketing ploy to me. It would take quite a refined palate to distinguish the difference, especially after having a couple of ounces. You know how that goes - after a couple mouthfuls the tastebuds deaden a bit. Maybe I'm just a pig. I go for lightly salted when I'm munching on nuts.

That's a good point madC. Personally, I no longer buy nuts for that reason. If it isn't the salt, it's the fat. I love nuts. These days I live vicariously by looking at nuts instead of eating them. The can above satifies my need for today.

I don't remember when within the past year I've not seen on the Planter's label *Made with Sea Salt* on the products that I buy. I have no idea if other brands are doing it or not. Nuts are a fantastic source of protein and I don't consume that many to be worried about the fat content.

The fat in nuts is the good kind. That doesn't mean you can pig out, but you shouldn't avoid them either.

The problem with sea salt is that it doesn't contain iodine, which most people get from regular table salt. With so many fancy salts out there now, people are actually experiencing iodine deficiencies. Just something to keep in mind when choosing a variety of salt.

NH, you're exactly right. What most people fail to understand is that there is a difference between good fats and bad fats. The polyunsaturated fats found in nuts is a good fat. Obviously, too much of any fat can cause weight gain, so it's all about portion control. 1-2oz of nuts per day is best.

If you like nuts Pistachios and chestnuts have the lowest fat of the nut familys. They are high in the 'good' fats and low in the 'bad' fats ^_^

it is true, the fats in "RAW" nuts is of the goodf type. but the fats that are added to proccessed nuts is the bad kind. the lable on these nuts state "peanut or cotton seed oil" added. this is where the bad fat comes from.

raw nuts are a great additive for any dieter. not procesed ones.

Actually, peanut and cotton seed oil are just fine. Both are considered healthy (aka good fat) and cotton seed is recognized for the antioxidants it provides.

The main difference between raw and processed nuts is that processed nuts lose some nutritional value and raw nuts have a much shorter shelf life.

Ultimately, all salt is sea salt. Whether it is dug out of a salt mine or collected by evaporating sea water, it is all from the sea. Alton Brown had an interesting episode of Good Eats one time, where he had exotic salts from around the world. We need a certain amount of salt for our bodies to work correctly, and our word for pay comes from the Latin salarium, as Roman soldiers received at least part of their pay in salt. Ghandi was once arrested by the British for leading a march to the sea to get salt, rather than paying the British overlords for it. I am not so sure that nowadays, we really need the iodine added to table salt, but as this is the first I've heard of it, I'll keep an open mind. Good review, good info.

I assume you work for Planters.

You can buy the same size can, and probably made by Planters anyway, from WalMart for one dollar cheaper. Same peanuts, salt, everything. Just contained in a WalMart branded can.

Salt is salt. Long before the fats in nuts get to you the salt will kill you. Talk to a good cardiologist about what you are doing to yourself. Buy the no salt kind.
