Don't Sign Up For Personal Training Sessions!
By -

SCOTTSDALE -- I went to receive my free personal training session on a Sunday and the personal trainer worked me excessively only to make me feel out of shape and so I would sign a contract... When I was doing this I knew it but still I wanted to sign a contract because I really needed help on this..

After I signed the contract, not even 5 hours later and after I spoke to some friends about it, I went back to cancel it, but then I thought about it and asked for a downgrade (about 60 dollars less every month)... Two days later I used my first session of the new downgraded contract, however when I was given my refund, about 70 dollars were missing and they said that I used a session that costs 70 dollars on the first contract (before I downgraded it)... So in short, I paid 309 dollars for the first contract, cancelled it within 5 hours, and received another contract (which I never signed by the way) for the same amount of sessions but for 249 initial fees....

Well that first training session fell on the 309 contract because the stupid trainers purposefully procrastinated on canceling the contract so officially my contract was cancelled 5 days later, and my refund was never 309, it was 250. Because that one session I used came out of the refund and because according to customer service I was still on the first contract.....

So I am canceling the new contract and putting a block to LA Fitness transactions on my bank account, and since I did not sign the new contract I have no obligation to do anything.... Don't trust these guys .... and by the way, I called customer service and the guy was extremely rude and cursed at me after I did not accept his explanations (he told me "Sir, what part of using a session of your first contract don't you understand? Why don't you ** off and have a nice day???: and then he hang up...... E

xtremely unprofessional, and they kept pointing me to the gym management and the gym management to customer service and so around in order to solve this problem "Please contact customer service" then I would call them and they were like "Please call you Gym management" and I would do so and around it would go....

DON'T SIGN ANYTHING WITH LA FITNESS they are really stupid, and by the way on that first session they will make you feel like a scumbag that has no fitness in order to make you sign something, you know get you down morally and like I said, I was aware of this, but I only signed up because I needed guidance on getting started but after all this mess I don't want anything to do with LA Fitness at all..

LA FITNESS SCAM - Stay Away From This Club

HOPKINS, MINNESOTA -- I was scammed into a personal training program at L. A. Fitness in Hopkins MN. The VP ** told me “I have a lot on my plate and lots of things to do.” When I spoke with him regarding my situation. I also found out that the training manager ** - the one responsible for my scam was terminated from the company because of his lack of integrity. I am sure there are many others out there that were scammed by ** and other staff at L. A. Fitness.

I recommend a membership at Lifetime - more expensive but the customer service is worth the extra $$$. I lost a lot of money. I was willing to work with them to find a resolution instead of asking for my $ back but they did not go out of their way to even care about my situation. BE AWARE of LA FITNESS -- PAY MORE $$$ AND STAY AWAY FROM THIS CHEAP HEALTH CLUB.

Fooled into Personal Training - Impossible to cancel
By -

I have offered a free session of the personal training. They pushed me for the taking a personal training by showing discounts and free sessions at sign up. La fitness guy did not tell me about the cancellation can't be done within a year. I freeze account for few months. La fitness customer care worst. Lack of information. First they told me you can cancel the personal training if you're moving 25 miles away from the club. Then I was actually about to move from that place. So after moving to new place I called them and asked to cancel the membership.

Now LA Fitness customer said you can cancel the membership if you are 25 miles away from any of their club. WOW. So I should travel 25 miles to go to gym even if there is one next to my door? I am in New Jersey. They have club at Startan Island. So I told them to go there. I have to pay 10 dollars in toll and it's 20 miles from my place.
And believe me they said, "NO we cannot cancel it." You have to keep paying monthly charges. You can pay out and cancel the membership for that you have to pay 6 months charges. Isn't it cool. You been there for month or two. Pay 6 months charges and cancel the membership. It's Easy.

Being A Former Employee

CAPE CORAL, FLORIDA -- As a former employee, I would like to tell anyone who wants to know the truth. These people do not care about you at all. All they want is your money. Once they got your credit card they got you. As an employee I saw first hand how they work each person, they are liars and cheats. And they treat their employees like dogs, lousy pay, and they want you to keep working the members for more money. I would recommend you stay away from these people if at all possible. Find yourself a small local gym and go there... at least you won't have to feel like a dollar sign.

Third Party Contracts

TUCKER, GEORGIA -- My personal training contract ended with L A fitness in Jan 2012. I checked with them in January and February, the customer service person told me that the canceling of the service was done. I did not get a charge in January or February but in March I got charged over 1,000 dollars for three months - they said that I did cancel correctly, but they charged me for two months because of this. They use a third party vendor to process their accounts and the third party vendor gave them my updated debit card number.

As a result they sent all three months of these transactions through. Their back is I did not submit a written notice to cancel. The customer service person that told me it was taken care of, did not have the authority to cancel it. They obtained information from a third party to send transactions against.

I had no idea that any outside person could give information as personal as your credit card number etc. No wonder vendors are making a money off consumers for security protection we certainly have no protection from the business community. What a joke on the consumers! Everyone is coming to the party to rip off the consumer's life and privacy!

Buyer beware!

CAMP HILL, PENNSYLVANIA -- Buyer Beware - Horrible experience!! It is probably the most unethical fitness facility. We became members and the sales agents signed us up for personal training sessions which we found we could never use because one most of the trainers are not well trained themselves and two the ones who are trained are never available. The sales agent told me we could cancel at any time which I found when we went to cancel is untrue because they suddenly show you the fine print which says to cancel you owe them 50% of the balance - something they never tell you when they make you sign up.

They have no customer service and are most unprofessional. Makes one wonder what the health of American business is today.

Disgraceful, No Professional Personal Trainer
By -

They made you sign offering a great service and you can end signing, but watch out before you sign. The amount of money will be bigger and if they offer you anything for free, that won't happen. Nobody will supervise your progress and they will send you whoever they want to. I am so sorry and upset signing that now, I don't want to belong to that club. You feel like you are among a bunch of people who are dishonest and don't care to provide good service.

I am trying to switch locations and they said to me they can't guarantee to provide me the same personal trainer and that, nobody will monitor my progress?? By the way, I am not in great shape, but I am lucky to have some curves and be thin. Please be careful, we do not deserve the kind of "services".

Overall horrible gym

I signed up for personal training with a specific trainer at LA Fitness. When he was fired about three weeks later, I wanted to cancel my personal training, because all they hired to replace a well qualified trainer were idiots. I was told I couldn't because it was a 3 month contract. Well, a couple weeks later I accepted a job approximately 180 miles away from the gym.

In my contract it states that I can cancel if I move further than 25 miles away, which I did! But when I talked with the lady in charge of this I was told that new management took over and I could no longer do this. I signed a contract LA Fitness and yes I can cancel! It says so in my contract!!! I hope you enjoy my lawyer; he thinks that a lot of other people will enjoy suing you.

Pushy, inconsiderate, and a total scam!

LAKE ELSINORE, CALIFORNIA -- I too was taken advantage of at this gym. Their so called "orientation" is actually a very, very, very, high pressured sales pitch. I had three employees pressuring me all at once. Shame on me because I gave in. I purchased something I didn't really want or need. Let me say this, once they have you sign they couldn't care less about you. I called one time to change an appointment with the trainer and they said that they would still have to charge me that session and that the trainer would call me back to reschedule. Nobody ever called me back. I had to call about 5 times before getting a new appt.

The sessions are only 30 minutes and way overpriced. The trainers are inexperienced and have no personality. Just point to a machine and count. He doesn't even pay attention to what I'm doing. I wanted to cancel so I called the gym and was told in a very sarcastic way "Okay sure you can cancel. Let me look at your account. Hmm, that will be $800.00." Unbelievable! BTW they never even mentioned the cancellation policy when I signed up. Oh well. Can't blame anyone other than myself for being such a pushover. Hopefully someone can benefit from what I'm writing though.

Fraud and dishonset

LEAGUE CITY, TEXAS -- Went into business to become member and we stated we will not join if a contract is involved. Their response was no contracts are involved. Lie #1 When we signed to pay for monthly membership we were asked to sign digital signature pad without seeing the computer monitor and discovered this was a 12 month contract. Lie #2 We did not get a receipt and they stated we did, ha. Lie #3 Asked Manager for regional manager phone number or customer service number number and manager stated he could not give out. Manager stated regional manager would get in touch with me, to date have NOT had follow-up to complaint. They have never apologized to this day.

The employee atmosphere is very arrogant here. Trainer are a joke. Trainers write down in your book your activity completed but do not know how to offer instruction for personal development. If I owned this business in TX, well I'll say unemployment would be higher than it already is. Don't waste your money or time here, the stress isn't worth it.
