His prescription eye glasses, clothes, mobile phone, cash with a total value of $650.00. When I complained to the manager, they were just laughing and pretty much ignored our complaint. They did acknowledge that this was not the first time. Robbery had been happening quite often but all they said was there is nothing they can do about it. I was just so furious. They show no concern over their safety of their members and their personal property in spite of my son’s things being locked-up.
I called the police and filed a police report. The police told me that she suspects that the young guys that work in LA Fitness Gym are the thieves doing all the stealing but there is no way of knowing for sure. It seems that these trainer have not criminal background checks at the time of employment.
This happened in the LA Fitness located in

When joining a gym, read, read, READ the contract before signing! LA Fitness has an aggressive sales staff that has specific sales quotas to fill each month, and they will spin information, make empty promises, and woo you to make the sale. It is no different than an auto dealership, so be smart before you buy. Ask for the best deal possible. Ask to waive "sign-up," "activation," or "new membership" fees - these are implemented to keep monthly membership dues competitive with other gyms. Personal training contracts are also aggressively marketed and sold and are a HUGE money-maker for the company, but don't be impressed by the sales pitch - trainers are paid a mere $6 per session and the corporation pockets the rest after the salesperson gets their commission. As such, underpaid trainers are not heavily invested in their clients and are essentially just a paid workout buddy. Most trainers work full-time and can have up to a 100 clients a week, which doesn't really allow them the time necessary to individualize or concentrate on your 30-minute workout session or help with your personal needs. If you're looking for an individualized workout to meet specific goals, don't waste your money on one at LA Fitness - it literally isn't worth it. Go to a reputable personal trainer that isn't linked to a fitness chain where the emphasis is on making money off members rather than achieving your fitness goals.Add reply
CAPE CORAL, FLORIDA -- I recently moved and my new credit card was lost/stolen in the mail. It took a while for the bank to process a new one (which I still don't have) and in the meantime my LA Fitness membership was on that card (now being expired). They began calling and harassing me almost daily about getting them a new card, giving them my bank information, wanting to know when I would be getting the card (like I control the bank and postal service...). They even went as far as calling me at 8:30 AM on Thanksgiving Day morning. LA Fitness is the only club around here that has a pool, which is why I joined. However, dealing with the wannabe street thugs hanging out on the machines, the filthy showers, and old people taking up all the lanes in pool with their coffee cloches isn't worth it so I hadn't been in quite some time. As a matter of fact I haven't been for a month before the credit card expired. However, they demand their money and THEY WILL NOT LET YOU CANCEL. Cant even do it on-line, have to call (a line they never answer).2 Replies - Latest reply on 11/28/2009Add reply
Personal Trainers / Salesmen

PHOENIX, ARIZONA -- The intend of this review is to file an official written complaint on LA fitness club operational manager.

As I mentioned, [name removed] is operation manager for LA fitness club in Phoenix, Arizona (Ahwatukee West Club). For the reference, club location is 4836 E. Chandler Blvd., Phoenix, AZ 85044.
The reason for the complaint is that Tom conducted unprofessional behavior towards me by being extremely non polite explaining club’s towel policy. I am member of LA fitness from 2002 and my multiple family members are part of LA fitness membership as well. I feel that I deserve respect and customer service from operational manager of the club, but instead I received nothing but negative attitude and sarcasm from Tom. I am at the point that I don’t want to renew my membership with LA Fitness because of Tom and also advise my family members do the same.
I enjoyed my membership with LA fitness for last 5 years and think that LA fitness clubs have very good facilities, however attitude from operational managers, specifically from [name removed], is forcing me to drive it away of contract renewal.
I also attempted to escalate the issue to [name removed], district manager, but only got voice message from her with incorrect phone number… This is very sad guys…
BELLEVUE, WASHINGTON -- A few months ago I decided to join LA Fitnesss because they were the only club in my area that offered an organized basketball league. Going through the "song and dance" of a sales presentation I askied if the league was free. "Of course it was said the used car sales man in front of me (Patrick), now just sign here." Two months later the sign up sheet for the league appears, it has a $65 enrollment fee with it. Now $65 is not a whole lot of money, but since I was told there was no fee, I complained. I was told it was never free and I has misheard the sales guy. Wrong! If I was told a league upfront cost $65 I would have still signed up for the club, since I had already negotiatiated my membership @ $35/month and no enrollment fee. I felt that since I was lied to that I am going to quit this gym for ethical reason. Now let's see how my cancelation goes...1 Replies - Latest reply on 07/11/2007Add reply

Predatory Personal Training Contracts

FLORIDA -- Gym is 100% dirty and disorganized! Bathrooms are 100% so filthy. The stalls are gross! I was told by the female Assistant Manager at the Wellington, FL location that the corporate office let go their cleaning staff and now only has a sporadic cleaning crew! Gross, Gross, Gross! The 5lb, 10lb and 15lb size dumbelss are never around! With all the members they have you would think they would have a few sets of each weight! The Training Manager is supposed to give you a complimentary training session when you join, BUT its 100% sales pitch, no training involved. PATHETIC! I wish I never joined. In addition, most occasional members at the Wellington, FL location have no cooth when it comes to basic gym etiquette. They don't re-rack weights, and when they do, they rack them onto a machine while someone is using it: DANGEROUS and Stupid ( i.e. the leg press)!!! The staff does nothing to encourage the occasional members to proper gym use. LA Fitess Wellington takes your money, pockets it and does not put anything into it. Filthy gym, lazy members, lack of dumbells. Dont Waste Your Money! I'm goin to Golds! Add reply

WAYNE, NEW JERSEY -- I have been a member at LAFitness in Wayne, N.J. for over a year now. I have had some trouble lately with some bad members.I do not know who they are. Some of the things that have happened are my missing items, the naked men running in the ladies locker room.

It stopped for a while now it is starting again. This time it is only the one man I have seen before running in and out. The last thing that has happened to me is that someone put a dirty blood soaked kotex into my shower bag. When I reach into my shower bag I was so upset to find a dirty bloodsoaking womens kotex in it. That is so terrible for a women to do this to me.
I do not know why these people are like this to me. I liked going to this LAFitness. The staff seems to be nice to me. They liked to joke around a lot of times. I cannot believe any of the staff would do this to me. They have been helpful at times and many of the members also have been so nice and helpful to me. Also there is a really nice women that is such a wonderful person. She has been a great help to me at times when I did not expect. Thank god for her that she was there.
HOPKINS, MINNESOTA -- I was scammed into a personal training program at L. A. Fitness in Hopkins MN.
The VP Daniel [snip] told me “I have a lot on my plate and lots of things to do.” When I spoke with him regarding my situation.
I also found out that the training manager Brett - the one responsible for my scam was terminated from the company because of his lack of integrity. I am sure there are many others out there that were scammed by Brett and other staff at L. A. Fitness.
I recommend a memebership at Lifetime - more expensive but the customer service is worth the extra $$$
I lost a lot of money. I was willing to work with them to find a resolution instead of asking for my $ back but they did not go out of their way to even care about my situation.
BE AWARE of LA FITNESS —— PAY MORE $$$ AND STAY AWAY FROM THIS CHEAP HEALTH CLUB.
