I paid to have a legal question answered at Lawguru.com and a lawyer named Anders ** answered it (regarding a utility corporation taking an easement from our property). We wound up signing a contract and paying a retainer to **. He did not do anything to help us with our problem, and 6 weeks later I called him to ask what was going on. He said the letter he sent to the corporation on our behalf "must have been lost in the mail." I asked to see the next letter he sent before sending, and he then sent me a hastily written, illiterate, unprofessional letter that materially misrepresented the facts of our case.
I rejected this and requested a refund of our retainer, which ** agreed he owed us. He promised to send a check, which he never did, even after many phone calls and emails requesting he honor his agreement with us. We wound up having to represent ourselves to the giant corporation involved, which was not in our best interest.
I contacted Lawguru.com to complain about ** association with them and was told that only if the Mississippi State Bar flags his status would Lawguru take any action. They claim that they are installing a user-review section on their website in the coming months. Since they do not do any vetting or reviewing of the lawyers they feature on their site, user reviews are a requirement. If Lawguru.com does add user reviews and publishes my review, I will upgrade my review here.
