Poor customer service

GREENVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA -- This builder is friendly and accommodating until they get you to commit to buying their home. Afterwards, you will be amazed at how irresponsible they are. They are supposed to have a walk-through before closing. They agreed to meet me at a certain time, and never showed up. The walk-through wasn't done before closing. My appliances weren't installed at the time promised. All items that were supposed to be fixed before closing weren't fixed. They dragged their feet for a month on fixing the other minor items, which weren't repaired to satisfaction. Then, it was apparent that I had a dangerous step on my porch. Someone tripped on it because it is not high enough to notice. This builder gave me some story that if they tried to level up that walk, that it would cause a water problem. Last I checked, water doesn't flow uphill. They refuse to help me, knowing full well the step may kill someone in the future. They claimed it was by design, but to me, that just says they don't have any standards. Nobody made any measurements. They just didn't want to do their jobs, yet they seem to pester people with their homeowner association covenants. Many of the neighbors seem to have trouble as well.

You should all get together and call a lawyer, the city and the building inspector.

We too built with Lazarus Shouse in the Sweetwater Hills sub between Spartanburg and Greenville, SC. We had the "everything will be taken care of" Leo for our walk through. After we signed on the dotted line, it has been a fight ever since. The friendly "hometown builder" attitude has gone out the drafty windows an attitude of "that was not identified in the pre-closing walkthrough, so it is not our issue". Buyers beware - look at every square inch of your home in the morning, afternoon and in the light to catch everything. Once you close, they are not responsible for the shoddy painting, the poor installation of doors and trim, the uneven soft spot hardwood floors, to the poorly draining yards to the cracked cementwork. The new house enjoyment only goes downhill. Dealing with Ted the "we are not responsible for that" warranty guy will make you want to rip the phone out of the wall. He has got to be one of the most arrogant and ignorant people I have met. He is supposed to help the homeowners with issues, but instead finds every excuse why Lazarus Shouse is not responsible. To the prospective buyers, do your homework and don't be fooled by "the hometown builder".
