Beware of Maybelline "Great Lash" mascara
Posted by Reitergk on 05/04/2012
I recently bought Maybelline Great Lash mascara (pink tube, green top). After 1 application my eyelids became itchy. I took an antihistamine and applied cortisone cream. The next morning my eyes were swollen, the skin under my eyes was crepey and I had welts on my cheekbones. Relief came after several days on prednisone. Keep away from this product!!!

This is the only mascara I've been using since I was a teenager, and never had a problem. I like it, because it's contact lens wearing safe.

Sorry this happened to you. But sometimes the body can reject a product, as the years go by. Bodies change, and we have to give up products we've sworn by.

I have used this mascara for about 20 years, i have never had one issue with it..Its a great price and looks great on and comes off when i need it too.sounds like you had a reaction to it but doesn't mean something is wrong with the product..

I used to use Maybelline, but their mascara starting flaking off and was leaving black smudges under my eyes. I use L'Oreal now and haven't had any issues
Posted by madconsumer on 2012-05-05:
sounds like you are allergic to some of the ingredients in the product.

very helpful review.

This is my fav mascara. I am sorry you had a reaction--it does sound as though you are allergic to one of the ingredients.

I've never had a problem with any mascara, until now! I have the same issue described above! I thought it was old cover-up I used, so I threw it out. It took over a week for my eyes to get better. Yesterday I finally was able to wear make-up again, and lo and behold, this morning my eyes are itchy and swollen again.

Eyebrow Pencils
Posted by Janalofton on 05/02/2012
I have always bought define a brow eyebrow pencil. Now you've changed it. I hate it. It's a waste of money. You can't get it to sharpen enough to do a fine line. I breaks off all the time, so that's a waste. Please bring back define a brow in dark brown. Loyal customer. I buy all Maybelline products.

I used to use Maybelline, but their products don't hold up anymore. I've switched to L'oreal and I am pleased with their makeup.
Posted by Barbara on 2013-04-17:
I have been using your eyebrow pencil for 40 years. The last three packs (2 in pack) I have purchased I cannot sharpen because they crumble. I have bought 3 different sharpeners and I cannot sharpen them and have had to throw them away. One pencil split right down the side and I was holding the piece in my hand. I even went to Walgreens and told the clerk my problem. She removed and opened a sharpener from the cosmetic section and was unable to sharpen my pencils I brought with me. I don't know why you have changed material used in these pencils--I cannot afford to buy these pencils and use them a few times and have to throw them away because they cannot be sharpened.

Instant Rewind Did Not Come Out Of The Bottle
Posted by JChavers on 01/16/2012
I saw commercials on Instant Rewind. I wanted to try it. Thought it was like a concealer. I tried and tried to get the makeup to come out of the bottle. It never came out. I took it back to Walgreen's.
After reading another review, I am glad I did not use it.

Slow uncomfortable burn
Posted by Graci_881 on 09/05/2011
I have used different mabelline products over the past 30 years this is the first time that one of the products actually I think I may be allergic to. I put on the colossal volume express waterproof mascara and it looked nice to begin with but within about one hour my eye area started to feel warm until it turned into a burning sensation all aound my eye area. I removed tthe mascara within 2 hours and the burning sensation continued on.
I am not allegic to anythng that I am aware of and have used Maybelline products for several years this is the first time I ever had a reaction but ouch it was very uncomfortable. Maybe it was a bad batch? I know it ws themascara because that was the only new product on m face. I hope mabelline products gets this information.

Maybelline is pretty good at responding to problems, at least in my experience (or more specifically, my wife's). They'd want to know about this. Contact them via http://www.maybelline.com or, better still, give them a call at 1-877-456-5287.
Posted by madconsumer on 2011-09-05:
unfortunately, there is a warning on the package to remove if this occurs. some people have reactions to their new ingredients.

very helpful review.

I had a similar experience with Old Spice deodorant. I switch deodorants every few months just for a difference in scent. On one occasion, it started burning my underarms within a few minutes. I showered and it left my skin red and tender. Some time later, I tried the same deodorant again, without any side effects. Perhaps, in your case and mine, it was that one individual package that accidentally received too much of one chemical, or not enough of another? Best of luck in the future!
Posted by trmn8r on 2011-09-05:
I'll bet there indeed is something in this product you are allergic to, and it isn't a "bad batch".
Posted by Skye on 2011-09-05:
Water proof mascara's are too harsh on the eyes. I use the Maybelline mascara, in the pink and green tube, non-water proof and have never ever had any issues. I prefer this mascara because it's safe for contact lens wearers.

OP, you may need to visit your eye doctor, just to make sure everything is ok.

Did you buy the tubes at the same store? Maybe they're old. Contact Maybelline directly and let them know.

I've been having similar issues with Maybelline's mascara the past few months. It was leaving smudges under my eyes and I was using the waterproof kind. I switched to Loreal.
Posted by Venice09 on 2011-01-13:
I really hope Maybelline is listening to these complaints. I can't imagine them cutting back on quality after being in business for so many years and having tons of loyal customers. Did you let them know, yaya? If they get enough negative feedback, I'm sure they will take it into consideration.
Posted by Anonymous on 2011-01-13:
Venice, I have tried 4 different kinds of mascaras from Maybelline and all left smudges. They never used to do that. I should contact Maybelline
Posted by Venice09 on 2011-01-13:
Yes, definitely contact them. I don't wear makeup and haven't bought Maybelline products in a long time, but I really think they care about their reputation. If they are reformulating products and customers are unhappy, they need to know so they have a chance to rethink what they're doing before it's too late.
Posted by Lisa on 2011-05-30:
Same complaint as others: the waterproof mascara in the pink/green tube clumps. It does not last as long, either. The last few tubes I bought have been like this, so time for a change. I am really dissapointed with Maybelline products.
Posted by Kim on 2013-09-30:
The new Maybelline (non waterproof) leaves my lashes hard! And they break off, it was never like that. Now its too harsh for me too use really really sorry I bought it. I used to count on it for gentleness.

Disappointment : Mascara.

The Falsies.
The Falsies.
I am a very loyal customer when it comes to Maybelline. The only makeup I use, is their products. I was overly excited when I saw the new products that were coming out. I was dying to try Falsies Mascara!!! I bought it a few days ago and opened it as soon as I got in the car, but to my disapointment, I was not at all satisfied with this product. It was messy & did not by any means live up to the exspecttations. I love the idea of the brush, but the product it self was horrible!! I love Maybelline 100% but just this product was really a fail.

OP, I am sorry you are disappointed. I have this mascara, and there is definitely a difference. My lashes look darker and longer, but, of course, they don't look like the model's lashes do.

Posted by Ksl2008 on 2010-09-17:
I notice a difference with this product but was still disapointed that it wasn't even close to what I thought it would be! =/
Posted by Anonymous on 2010-09-17:
Yeah, and you gotta be darn quick on that second coat, or it IS a mess!
Posted by Ksl2008 on 2010-09-17:
Yeah I noticed that! I mean I love Maybelline!! but this was just not their best work!!
Posted by Skye on 2010-09-17:
They need to put a disclaimer on these commercials for mascara. All the models have fake lashes in between their real ones, so you think you will also get the same effect from the mascara, when in reality, you will also need to add false lashes in between your real ones. I only saw one commercial, I believe it was for Loreal mascara, about the models having false lashes in between their real ones.

I prefer the Maybelline mascara with the pink bottom and green top. I like how my lashes come out, and it's contact lens safe.

I, too, was excited about the new Falsies mascara. I love Maybelline products and that's usually the only brand I purchase. I bought a tube of the Falsies in September and was not overly in love with the results, but I was okay with it. The day after wearing it, my left eye swelled and turned red, but I did not think anything of it. I did not wear any makeup for a few weeks after that, but an event came up that called for wearing it. The day after, my right eye turned bright red and swelled. I still did not connect it to the mascara. However, a couple of weekends ago, I wore it on a Saturday night, removed my makeup as usual before bed, and wore it again on Sunday. On Monday morning, I again had a swollen and very red eye! I did my own little testing after that, and every time I wear this mascara one of my eyes will react! I researched it, and evidently the Kera fiber in the mascara causes an allergic reaction in my eyes! I will not wear it again! I gave it to my daughter, who has had no reaction to it.

I totally agree with you. I too was VERY dissatisfied with this product. It FLAKES like crazy after only having it on for less than an hour! It gives you the volume your looking for but it flakes like crazy!

My eyes swell every time I wear this mascara! I have never had a problem with allergies to cosmetics before. This mascara is toxic for me. My eye lids swelled like marshmallows and still haven't healed completely. Nightmare.
Posted by Kat on 2013-08-23:
Myself and many other people have experienced allergic reactions to this mascara. I have never had a reaction to any mascara until this, and it is the same with most of the complaints i read online. i should also mention this is the waterproof version, i have never tried the regular one. i'd really be interested to know what is in this stuff that is so irritating to so many people.
Posted by ashfletch on 2013-10-12:
I bought this mascara a few days ago, the regular one not the waterproof, and when i wore it the first time my eyes were fine but when i came to remove my eye makeup my eye lids and all underneath my eyes started to feel like they were burning and went bright red. Im very dissapointed as i like the way this mascara makes my eyelashes look but i will not be buying this again.

Good Customer Service
Posted by Alain on 03/20/2010
NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- Recently I decided to surprise my wife by attempting to buy her some eye shadow for her birthday, something she surely wouldn't expect me to do. I "researched" to find out what products she liked by cleaning the bathroom (this also surprised her). Noting that she was low on eye shadow I went down and got some. When she opened it we found there was no applicator in the box. Since none of the boxes I saw had them I thought this was how they were sold. My wife explained that the product comes with applicators. I e-mailed Maybelline explaining my situation. In less than 4 hours a customer service representative e-mailed me back asking for the name and address of the store I'd gotten the product from so they could correct the problem. Additionally, she offered me two coupons ($5 each) for my trouble. Since the eye shadow was only about $9, I accepted the offer and within 5 days the coupons arrived in the mail. The representative also said that if I wanted advise on cosmetics for my wife in the future I could always e-mail them for some advise. A nice personal touch, but next time I'm sticking to the usual normal roses, dinner, and jewelry for her birthday (I gave her some sapphire earrings this time and she said that something like that is enough--no extra surprises necessary!) Maybelline gave excellent customer service here. They promptly responded to a problem, satisfied the customer, and built some customer loyalty for themselves. My wife also went down to pick up some more cosmetics at the store where I got the shadow (Target, Homestead, PA) and noted that the boxes without applicators had been replaced.

I love this review! What a thoughtful gift. Your wife is a lucky lady.

And great job from Maybelline, too! I guess there's a reason they've been around for so long.
Posted by Alain on 2010-03-20:
It was a fun and a learning experience, Venice! I'm still going to stick to the jewelry in the future, though! I can see why my wife likes Maybelline. They are good.
Posted by Venice09 on 2010-03-20:
And you cleaned the bathroom, too!.. What more could a girl want?

Nice job all around.. :)

Now that's what I call great customer service!

You just gotta love a well written easy to read review! Excellent job Alain.

Eyelash curler refills don't work
Posted by Janjo on 01/11/2010
I too have gone through many refills on the eyelash curler and am frustrated. They aren't long enough nor are they thick enough anymore. I have had the same curler for 30 years and until recently have never had any problems. Not until I looked at where they are now made - too bad we can't get American made products anymore; at least they fit and worked right!

Actually, I'm sure it's possible to get an eyelash curler that's American made. I bet it's REALLY expensive, though!

Instant Age Rewind foundation
Posted by PLUMPNPRETTY on 04/12/2007
This foundation is very smooth and easy to apply. It seems to plump up the skin and makes you look glowing and younger. However it does not smell good which is a drawback.

I have used age rewind foundation in the color tone of Suntan, for years. Now all of a sudden I can't find that shade anywhere. I am part native Indian and it blends in with my skin color perfectly. what's up with this? I can't find another shade that blends with my skin tone. BRING IT BACK!!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!
