What a Headache
By -

HUNTSVILLE, ALABAMA -- I purchased a Maytag Wide by Side Refrigerator in December 2001 along with a Maytag Range and Dishwasher as my Christmas gift that year. The Range and Dishwasher has been satisfactory, however, the Refrigerator is an expensive heap of junk! It has never cooled correctly. Thankfully, I kept my 15 year old Kenmore in the laundry room, at the time with the intention of stocking up on drinks and using for overflow, but have been forced to use it as my primary fridge as the Maytag is now just a bulky kitchen ornament. The last time I unplugged it, it defrosted and left a giant puddle in my kitchen floor which ruined my newly installed hardwood floors.

It has not been operational for almost 2 years now as I cannot afford the time off work nor the expense of having a repairman come out to try to repair it. From the looks of other reviews on this website, I'm not the only one who is dealing with Maytag's faulty workmanship. I did not buy the extended warranty because I guess I just expected the thing to last longer than 3-4 years. I cannot afford $1,500 for a new fridge every 3-4 years. If I don't get this thing working again, I'm going to stick with Kenmore products as I should have done in the first place.

I would never recommend Maytag products to anyone as they are overpriced and cheaply produced. Not always true that you get what you pay for-I paid dearly for mine and got a very poor quality product. My hard earned money is in their bank now so they are on to seduce their next victims with false advertising of their "high quality/low repair" appliances. Maytag... fix my fridge and I might have a change of heart. Otherwise, I will do my best to warn everyone I know NOT to even consider purchasing one of your items.

Ice Dispenser Issues
By -

MELBOURNE, FLORIDA -- We purchased a Maytag Performa PSD262LHEW model refrigerator/freezer from Lowe's in October 2005. Within three months, I noticed that the ice dispenser face plate appeared to not be secured to the door (it was loose). I called the warranty repair and they sent someone to look at the issue. They told me that the screw that was used to secure the faceplate to the freezer door assembly wasn't long enough to reach the hole that the screw was supposed to connect with to attach it. He replaced it.

Again, within 3 months it started popping out again. This time the top of the faceplate was "hanging" by the wires by the time the warranty repair people showed up... after missing several appointments without calling me to let me know that they could not make it. Again, they found some minor issue with the assembly and reattached the same door facing assembly, even though I asked them to replace it.

Again, it came loose. My husband finally got involved and made them replace the entire freezer door. They did this after MUCH debate. After that I noticed a slowly growing waterfall of ice forming over the food in the freezer. I couldn't even get anything out of the freezer until I finally got a hair dryer and started melting the ice. AGAIN, the door facing came out. UGH!!! We asked for a different company to repair it this time. Another company came, and after ordering a new ice maker assembly and door faceplate assembly, and after another week of waiting, it got fixed yet again.

Now, I have had a couple other refrigerators in my life and none has been a problem until now, so I KNOW that I am not being too rough on the appliance. About 5 months after the last repairman came, I noticed it popping out again at the top. It has been a couple of months since I noticed it and I am so TIRED of getting someone to come out to temporarily fix the problem that I haven't bothered to call and listen to another line of malarkey that they spew forth when they come to work on it. I'm checking into the lemon laws in Florida for appliances.

Abysmal Service and Repair Service by Maytag & Lowe's
By -

KATY, TEXAS -- RE: Maytag ICE20 Refrigerator purchased form Lowe's Store #0555 on April 11, 2006. Unit malfunctioned on 4/6/07 and shutdown on 4/7/07. My experience with Lowe's and your A&E Service Company continues to grow worse by the minute. Not only have we been without a refrigerator for seven (14) whole days and nights, we cannot 1) Get it repaired; 2) Get a loaner; 3) Get a new one (swap); or 4) Get our money back! One excuse after another from Maytag, Lowe's and their Sears A & E Service Arm.

We received a call tonight from a most nasty and surly A&E rescheduling representative (ID#: **) who made us wonder how on earth she was hired to interact with customers. She informed us that we will not get the part on Monday (4/16) as scheduled but will receive it on Friday (4/20) and the earliest that we can have a technician arrive to repair the refrigerator is Saturday (4/21). That will be exactly two whole weeks (14 days) without any assistance from Lowe's, Maytag, or A&E to help us resolve this situation quickly and in our interest. As soon as we can pay off our Lowe's obligation, we will NEVER in life buy or deal with Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse ever again.

We will inform Home Depot, Inc. and Yardbird of our horrible experience so that they can communicate this to the internet and to other parts of the United States. I am a Lowe's Gold Card member in good standing and always pay my Lowe's monthly bill on time. Yet, I receive the most abysmal, uncaring response from Lowe's store managers and representatives. No one has the authority nor desires to make a decision in favor of the customer. What a shame! I purchased a refrigerator and a GE Upright Washer and Dryer. I shudder to think what my experience will be if and when they have service problems. Your service and reputation is the VERY WORST with me.

Maytag Amana Poor Product, Lack of Service
By -

NORTH BRUNSWICK, NEW JERSEY -- I have an Amana Bottom Freezer Single door refrigerator. Twice the fridge has stopped cooling and freezing. It makes a funny noise and then I notice my freezer items are softening. I've lost 2 full loads of food. I've had my family of 4 eating out for 2 weeks while waiting for "service". They screwed up the first repair because the tech was trying to help. He didn't want to replace the compressor because he said the replacement will only be warranted for a year. The company claims that is incorrect and now they are sending someone out to replace it.

Reading through what I am now seeing online, I don't feel confident that it will stay fixed. The customer lack of service department is horrific. All I get is customer service people who don't give a rats you know what and are rude. They try very hard not to put you through to a supervisor or manager and when they say they will, they cut you off or have you hold so long that they think you should give up. They told us the part was in, scheduled a call and then cancelled it without telling us. When we called to find out why they did not show they told us that the parts really weren't in and we have to wait another 4 days. That was the straw that broke the camel's back.

After an hour and a half on the phone my husband finally got through to a "Solutions Manager" - she's sending us $75.00 and moved our appointment up a whole day. She also fixed the call tag so that they show up with parts. Big freaking deal - this fridge was $1100 and is only 2 1/2 years old.

This company should be ashamed - Do you know that they own Whirlpool and Jenn-Air also? Had issues with a Whirlpool washer (computer board dead in less than a year) and a Maytag dishwasher (the tub warped - maybe my water was too hot). Both of those went while still under 1 year warranty but how sure do I feel about them lasting. BUY NOTHING PUT OUT BY MAYTAG/AMANA/WHIRLPOOL AND JENN-AIR.

Admiral Refrigerator by Maytag Flooded House! Model # LSD 2615 HEW
By -

WEATHERFORD, TEXAS -- We leased a home, bought this refigerator, had it delivered and installed, and BEFORE we were able to move in, arrived one day to find the entire home FLOODED the day before our movers were to arrive! The water filter inside the refrigerator had broken, and water had run continuously, flooding the entire 3-bedroom house!

The store I purchased it from, contacted Maytag (Aug.15, 2006). Maytag instructed them to have me send to them: "Pictures of all the damages, 2 estimates for the repairs, the bill for the water cleanup, and a copy of my receipt for the refrigerator", then added: "Tell her we will take care of everything, and also send her a check for the replacement of the refrigerator". Sounds good, right? WRONG! Then the nightmare began! All these things were sent to them TWICE. Return Receipt requested each time.

Following this, a letter was sent to them that they have totally ignored. This was REPORTED TO MAYTAG ON AUGUST 15, 2006. TO DATE: SEPT.13, 2006, WE HAVE RECEIVED NOTHING! Each time Maytag is contacted, they say the same thing: "Oh my gosh! I can't believe no one has gotten back with her yet. The legal department has all the paperwork and I can't imagine why they haven't sent her the checks yet. Someone will be calling her today or tomorrow." (That seems to be the only answer they have). More calls were made, same answer each time. MAYTAG HAS NEVER CONTACTED ME IN ANY WAY. Our letter to them is still unanswered.

Well, "Today or tomorrow" has yet to arrive, and yesterday (Sept.12th) they said: "Someone will contact her within 24 to 48 hrs." YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!! This has been going on for 1 month now... We are paying rent and utilities on a house we can't even move into because of all the water damage! To say nothing about the electric bill since the A/C is turned down very low to keep the MOLD from getting any worse! (This is in TEXAS!)

Maytag couldn't care less! And when you do call them, be prepared to be kept on HOLD for at least 45 min. to OVER AN HOUR before anyone will even speak to you, and when they do, it's the same thing all over again... "someone will call within..." BLAH, BLAH, BLAH!!! When all this is finally over, I will post again, so people can see how long it takes for Maytag to "take care of their customers", and what measures had to be taken in order for them to do this.

We Love This Refrigerator!

FLORIDA -- Finally, there is a refrigerator that is the result of thoughtful design and engineering, rather than simply being an electrified ice box. My husband likes our new Ice2O refrigerator so much that I overheard him talking about it on the phone as if it were Marilyn Monroe, instead of an inanimate machine. Maytag has expanded on the basically good concept of a bottom-freezer refrigerator to make it convenient and functional in every way. Examples: The dispenser for filtered ice and water is on the outside of the door so you don't have to open the freezer or fridge to get these items. The interior of both the fridge and freezer are designed for maximum use of space and versatility.

You can set the overall temp controls separately for the fridge and freezer to the exact degree that you want. The huge meat/deli drawer with its own temp control permits meat being kept just above freezing, so it lasts a lot longer. The enclosed beverage compartment on the door, also with its own temp control, allows milk and other beverage to be kept really cold, so it tastes better and lasts longer. There are two large vegetable/fruit bins. The freezer has two sizable bins with top trays, so you can organize food easily. If you inadvertently leave a fridge or freezer door ajar (even though they tend to close automatically), in a few minutes an alarm goes off to let you know.

These are just some of the things I like about this fridge. Before buying, I looked at the only other bottom freezer fridge with ice/water dispenser on the door that is on the market now. It is made by LG and also sold under the Kenmore name. That fridge is vastly inferior to the Maytag in my opinion. A friend of mine is renting a home that has the LG. She hates it--says the space is very poorly utilized, that you can get hardly anything in it. The LG looks very similar to the Maytag from the outside, but the inside just doesn't measure up. Bravo, Maytag! This one is a real winner.

Don't Buy Maytag Products

FREDERICKSBURG, VIRGINIA -- I purchased a Maytag side by side 27.3 cu. ft refrigerator 1 year ago from Home Depot. It stopped cooling and we contacted Maytag for service (since we had the extended warranty). The technician indicated that he detected no problem with the unit and left. Before he left he informed my wife that if there was a problem, it appeared to be intermittent and he had no way of diagnosing it unless it failed while he was in our home. Again the refrigerator stopped cooling and Maytag was contacted for a service call.

Same technician visited with the same response, "no problem detected with the unit". What was so frustrating was that it was obvious that even if the refrigerator was cooling at the time the technician visited, all the ice had melted and frozen items had defrosted. Last Thursday (10/13/2005), the refrigerator stopped cooling for the last time. Again we contacted Maytag. This time, we stipulated that we wanted a different technician than the one from the prior two visits.

The technician arrived on Friday night around 7:30PM and indicated that it was either a problem with the compressor switch or the compressor. He replaced the switch but the unit would still not operate so it turns out that the compressor needs to be replaced. We will be without a refrigerator for at least a week until the part is delivered. This problem could have been minimized had the technician replaced the compressor switch on the first visit instead of taking the "I know nothing" approach. I will never purchase another Maytag product.

Fridge #MSF25C2EXW With Ice in the Door

PHOENIX, ARIZONA -- Purchased this fridge October of 2011 and had three service calls for the same problem. The ice reservoir in the door freezes and no more ice. Can't even remove the ice reservoir because it is frozen to the door. It freezes up just hours after the service call. We were told by the repairman that this model thaws the ice reservoir whenever you get anything out of the freezer and the flap on the outer side sticks open so humidity gets in and contributes to the freezing of the dispenser.

Maytag is aware of the problem and apparently has been working on a solution for a year and a half but so far they are not able to fix them. They still keep selling this model knowing it has a problem. Now I want it replaced and they are giving me the runaround. If you want to keep your sanity, DON'T BUY MAYTAG!

Maytag Refrigerators - Do Not Buy One
By -

I purchased the French Door Maytag Refrigerator in June 2008. We spent 3 mos. in Florida & upon returning found the icemaker didn't work, bottle of water & some items frozen in refrigerator. Repairman tried to say it was because the refrigerator was on an outside wall. This was certainly not the case as there is 6" of insulation in the wall, an outside enclosed porch and the heat in the house left at 55 degrees. He finally removed the inside back panel to see that the water coils were frozen and could not explain why. Asked to borrow my hairdryer to thaw them out!!

There was nothing in the "User Instruction" book to address the problem. Letter to Maytag was futile and the store where it was bought no help. Technician told me not to leave the icemaker on when we went to FL. Just returned from FL (with the icemaker off) and the same problem. Waiting for a tech (which takes days) to hear what the diagnosis is this time. I will NEVER buy another product. Product support is nil.

Disgusted
By -

My bottom-freezer refrigerator (model PBF2255HEW) will be four years old next week and we have had to have a repairman here three times, the first time when it was just weeks old. Another repairman was here last October and "fixed" it. This week, I found all my food thawed and called for service (I had purchased a four-year extended warranty for $99, thank God). I was told a repairman would be here "sometime" between 8 A.M. and 5 p.m., which meant sitting here the entire day, missing a day's work.

He arrived at 7:45 P.M. and found it needs a compressor. He said that's what it needed in October when it broke but for some reason the repairman didn't do it. I bought Maytag after my General Electric fridge broke down at TWO YEARS OLD, thinking I was buying a good brand my parents swore by. I was wrong, and I am disgusted. I will never buy another Maytag product.
