Upgraded to a better machine, or so I thought. Not quiet, longest cycles, and now a recall, which I just happened upon. Would have been nice to have been contacted however. They are quick for the recall repair.

I'm happy to report that A&E Service (contracted wi/Maytag) did indeed fix the heating unit recall problem. I was lucky as the service person also fixed the spring on the went flying off the day before he arrived (no charge)!

Who Needs A Maytag Repairman
Posted by on
I purchased this appliance approx 6 yrs ago and have been very happy with its performance until this year (2010). The refrigerator stopped cooling properly. I have had the authorized repairman come to my home three times and replaced the thermostat, baffle motor, and complete baffle assemble; cost, $450. My problem is not fixed. The freezer side works great. The repairman tells me there is nothing else to replace, yet my frig is unsafe because the temp will not reach 41 degrees f. I certainly would think an $1800. Refrig would last more than 5 years. Chalk one up to "name brand". I'm beginning to think American made is ---- ----.

I'd refute the earlier charges, if you used a credit card. Having them replace things as a guess, and then replace more when it doesn't work.. old scam. It's a common practice for lazy and/or under-trained repairmen. If there is literally nothing else to replace and it is still malfunctioning, the parts he used were refurbished or bad out of the box. Threaten to lawyer up and see if you can get a partial refund. Then go find a new fridge, you've wasted enough money on a losing concept.

I don't need a repairman. When my fridge got warm I checked a few things myself. Is the evaporator and condenser fan running and the condenser clean? The condenser is the dirty, icky black coil-thingy at the very bottom of your fridge, right above the floor (unless your refrigerator cools its condenser by natural-convection, in which case, the condenser would be mounted on the back of the refrigerator cabinet and you wouldn’t have a condenser fan). If the condenser fan isn’t running or the condenser is matted up with Rover’s hair, well, hope you like warm beer, that’s all I got to say. Does the evaporator itself look abnormal: either too much frost build-up or too little? Too much frost indicates a defrost system failure == easy, inexpensive fix that’s definitely worth doing. Too little frost means either a freon leak or a worn compressor; either way, junk the refrigerator and get a new one.

Boo Maytag

The range that I purchased just over 5 years ago has broken down 3 times. It's always been the element that needs replacement. The first 2 times it was covered by warranty (thank goodness I bought the extended 5 years). The 3rd time though, it's not covered and I'll have to fix it myself. You know what it's like to be without your oven!

I contacted Maytag Customer Service. Although she was sorry about my situation, there was nothing that they could do except keep my complaint on file and indicated to me that these types of things can happen and that Maytag uses the "Best" components in their products.

What a bunch of crap!

If their still in business in the next 5 or so years, I would be surprised.

A company that once had such an excellent reputation, to end up like this.
Too bad.......

Broken Bearings Maytag Front Loader Washer Series 3000
Posted by on
I purchased a Maytag Front Loader washer Series 3000 over one year ago and now the bearings need replacement. I called a service guy and he quoted the repair to be $1,100 almost $400 dollars more of what I paid for the washer.

Do not buy Maytag, bad quality and the company doesn't back up their products. I read the reviews online and the washer had excellent reviews. But let me tell you, the washer is not worth $200.

the servisce calls and repair parts can be a bit pricy that's why most stores recommend an extended warranty. front load washers are known for their faults but the newer models are even worse. that goes for all brands not only maytag. LG is one of the best brands I've found. they tend to have less problems, but are more expensive.
trmn8r on 05/14/2011:
Bearing replacement is very expensive on these machines. If you don't use HE detergent, it will ruin the seals/bearings.

Has anyone try to register their Maytag/Whirlpool appliances on line yet?
I could not do it. Please try out and let me know.

Just curious. What's the reason for the registration?.. recalls, warranties, complaints!?
ticia232 on 12/08/2010:
Venice, the answer is all of the above.

To the OP, it may be your email address. Many registrations have a problem with some of the free email servers out there. When you try to register again, read the terms and conditions and see if your email server is on their list of blocked ones.
Venice09 on 12/08/2010:
Good to know, ticia. I don't plan on buying any Maytag/Whirlpool products, but I'll keep this in mind.
luannec on 12/10/2010:
I'm having the same problem. When I click on 'Product Registration', it goes straight to an error message...'path not found'. So it's not the e-mail address, at least in my case. I e-mailed them on 12/8 but haven't received an answer yet.
Anonymous on 12/10/2010:
heh, seems their website is just as bad as their appliances!
Venice09 on 12/10/2010:
I was thinking the same thing, Prince. I'm not all that surprised the website doesn't work properly.
Cee on 02/01/2013:
Yes I have been trying to register for the pas hr. it says that I am logged in but keeps taking me back to log in screen. I can't even get to the contact us screen! Whom ever is tech support there should be fired!

Faulty Appliances

I had a Maytag over the stove microwave, that for no reason shorted out and burned down my house. We were not home, so it was not even in use. It started on fire and I had cabinets above the microwave, so the cabinets caught on fire, and there it went. My home total loss.

People who are trying to get satisfaction from Maytag? Whirlpool purchased Maytag sometime ago, that is why you do not get anywhere with Maytag. They don't care. Call Whirpool. I am looking for someone who has had my same tragedy. I need a referral for a good consumer protection attorney, who works on contingency. Model# starts with XC.

"Model# starts with xc"

^^^^^^^^That's not a Maytag model number.
MMV or UMV is.
SilverWngs71 on 10/24/2007:
XC may be the ending #'s of a serial # but not the start of a model #. Contact dealer to see if they have any info from when you purchased the appliance. They won't have your serial # but may have the model #.
