ROBBED!

PERTH AMBOY, NEW JERSEY -- DO NOT BOOK MERRY MAIDS! For a "deep clean" of my 2-BR, 1-bath house on July 27, 2017, I was billed a grand total of $486.28! That's right - apparently it took 2 people 3.5+ hours to clean a less-than-1,200 square foot house that was already in tidy and livable condition! Despite three calls immediately following the billing because I thought they had surely made an error, I was issued no sort of reimbursement or offer to remedy the situation in any way. I officially consider myself robbed.

MECHANICSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA -- Merry Maids do a thorough and excellent job. They remember the special things I mention to them and the different products I want them to use. They come in every other week. It tends to be by room so I don't know what and they leave me a card to say maybe it's the bathrooms or something. They really go do some extra things that they don't do every time which gets the house well-cleaned. I try to do it all myself but I can keep cleaning stuff in the room but if I don't get in the little corners, after a while it fills up. It's nice that they do that.

All the ladies that come here are very young and we interact all the time. They're professional but really friendly. We chat when they get here and they're very personable and very comfortable in asking me if I want them to do something.

And being alone, I'm sometimes not here. In fact, there can be times that I might not see them for six weeks because on that Thursday I'm not in the house. But they know where I have a key and let themselves in and I fully trust them. In all the time I've been doing this, I've never had a staple or something missing. I have a tendency in that stuff I'm gonna get rid of that's not too big and bulky I just set on my dining room table until the pile gets kind of obscene and then I go stick it in a bag and get rid of it. I've always told any of the gals that work here that if they want what I have on the dining table that's going to be donated in some place, it's theirs.

Not too long after I started this service, after my wife died, there was a lamp that my wife spent a good deal of time with and they broke it. They were so apologetic and the company did great in finding a replacement. They worked with me on it but it turned out we couldn't find the lamp in that particular color because it was peach ceramic. It either had to match fully or it wasn't going to fit in place. We finally agreed and I went out and found a crystal kind of looking lamp. And it turned out to be cheaper than what they had planned on for the other lamp. I got that and they reimbursed me.

I also mentioned to them that I'd like to try to keep the same people. That way, if I tell them to use a particular product, I just tell them where it is in what cupboard and they'll use it. But the surprising part about it for me is that when they switch to different people, somehow they're doing a good job of passing that data along. That's important because otherwise I've got to retrain everybody that walks in the door. But I know Merry Maids have a fairly high turnover.

So far, I've had a positive experience with Merry Maids. I've gotten a lot of flyers to get other outfits but I throw them away. I could save a buck or two if I went with those or some introductory deal but I don't want a "pig in a poke" just when I got something I know works well.

BANNING, CALIFORNIA -- In the beginning, we've set up for Merry Maids to come every Wednesday morning. However, they can't commit to what time they're going to be here so they can be here anywhere from 9:00 until 12:30. Right now, I'm suffering with pneumonia, just got out of the hospital and they came real early yesterday. And I was tired so I stayed in my boxer shorts and my tank top (it is decent) and cleaned up after they left.

However, they're very good. I hired them because I have three herniated discs, arthritis all the way up to my neck and it's very difficult for me to bend over and clean under and around the toilet. And I like my toilets and my shower to be really clean. So I need them to do the big stuff since the doctors don't want me to pick up anything over 10 pounds because that will make things worse for me. But the others, I can do myself.

Before they started coming in, I tried all kinds of people, even got to the point of trying all these other women, some of them would just give it a quick sweep and they're out of here. I could do that. But the one that worked for me was Merry Maids. I went through about four women before Pastora came to me. She was wonderful and would never get involved in the conversation when my husband and I were seriously talking.

Elizabeth and Lianna were also excellent. They're very empathetic to my situation and have been here for months seeing me go through these different phases. Elizabeth even told me to be strong because I am a survivor. She's become a very good friend of mine and she's very strict with the crew because I am fanatical about keeping my kitchen and bathroom super clean. She's a perfectionist because she would get with a toothbrush at the base of the toilet every week.

She told me one time that I didn't need Merry Maids every week since I live by myself with my cat. She told me I could go every two weeks but I said no because I need them to do the rooms, dust, mop the kitchen and bathroom floors and do the vacuuming.

I also have a very close relationship with Anna. I'd gotten very attached to her and I would call her to ask if I'm the first or second or third house on Wednesday. That way, at least I know I'm anticipating their company and I'm not going to be taking a nap. And my cat alerts me when anybody comes in my driveway so I'll know it's the girls.

While I was in the hospital, Merry Maids was also very good. One time, this girl gets all in a panic because I was choking and throwing up and it was green. But the doctors wanted to see how this latest antibiotic drip system worked and needed to know how much I went so I told her not to flush the toilet but that she could go in the bathroom and clean.

And when I called to have Merry Maids scheduled in these last weeks – because I totally forgot and I was going through my own hell with these symptoms - I was waiting for a call from my brothers then I stepped out for a minute and here they were, leaving, when I got home. They waved to me, I waved to them and they kept on going because they're on a very strict schedule and I know that.

But I am very pleased with Elizabeth and it was a great surprise to see her yesterday since I hadn't seen her for a couple of weeks. It turned out her husband had had a car accident and she needed to take care of him, but by the same token, there was no income coming in and she's got teenage boys. So I gave her an extra $20 and told her to use it to order El Pollo Loco and get something made for the children.

I will try to get Merry Maids clients since they helped me in keeping the bedrooms of my three boys clean after my husband died in a car accident. In fact, I was trying to get my neighbor to sign up, too.

TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA -- Merry Maids calls me the day before Shay is coming to clean my house. Shay comes every other Tuesday and she does really well so I'm fairly pleased. I never see her because I am at work when she comes and so I usually leave her notes if I need to tell her something.

There was one time Shay couldn't come so Merry Maids sent somebody else. I sent a detailed note on where the sheets are to change my bed and all that stuff. When I came home that night, my sheets were still on the dining room table and my bed had not been changed. There was a bad storm that day and electricity was out, so I understood they couldn't vacuum, but there is no reason that she couldn't finish her job which I thought was really weird. They said she was scared because of the storm and I thought that is the poorest excuse I have ever heard to not finish the job.

Before I had Shay, there was another one that was using their vacuums with black bumpers on. I don't know why they're black and white instead of white, and all my baseboards were streaked black. They tried to scrub them and when they did, they took the paint off of some of them.

Also, Laurie damaged my brand new stove. I renovated my kitchen and she used a steel wool or something that scratched the stainless top. I called Merry Maids, sent them a picture and said it needs to be repaired. It can't be buffed out because it's brushed stainless. I kept calling for months and they say they are trying to look into it.

Finally, after about six or seven months, I called Merry Maids and told them I contacted the place where I bought the stove and they said all they have to do is order a new top to go on it and told me how much it will cost. I went ahead and ordered it, and sent the bill to Merry Maids. So I had to take charge of that and if I hadn't done it, I would still have a damaged stove top that had not been repaired. That is extremely unprofessional. Their answer was always they have no idea how their insurance is going to cover it.

Another thing was when they sent somebody out and I had to call and ask the supervisor to come out and look at the mess. My glass top table was filmy and sticky, and they didn't clean the sink. It was ridiculous that I was paying and they did a horrible job. Jenny came out at that time and she agreed.

I don't think Merry Maids is run that well. They are way overpriced. A lot of my friends have people who clean their homes at half the cost of what Merry Maids charges and they do a lot more for them. They can leave notes and they'll polish silver or do something unusual. With Merry Maids, if I have a dirty dish in the sink, when I get home it is still in the sink which is ridiculous. The value for what I get is not good.

EVANSVILLE, INDIANA -- I moved to Evansville a few years ago and bought a new little house. I wanted someone to clean so I checked into Merry Maids and they did a good job. The first young girl was fantastic. We went through the situation where I had different girls coming. I then made a request to have one cleaning lady that I knew and felt free to leave the house with. I now have someone that comes all the time.

Most of the time, scheduling and rescheduling the service works out really well. I haven't had to change the service very often because by having the girl that I know, if I have to be gone or anything, she has a key to the house and comes in and does it. But when I have had to change, I never had any problem. The reps worked very well with that, but we mostly stayed with the main schedule that we set up with. I've been very pleased with their service. I feel that everything has been done really well.

My cleaning lady is a sweet gal and does a nice job. The only thing is that the most recent time, she came at 8:30 and I had to leave at 9:00. By the time I left after our conversation, she was just cleaning her first room. I got back at 11:30 thinking she might still be here but she wasn't. I figured out what it would cost me per hour and it was almost $60, and I thought I need to talk with them and find out what the situation is because I'm not usually here when she finishes. I just wanted to be sure that it was a normal timespan. Other than that, I'm happy with them. In fact, I have recommended them to one of my best friends and she uses them.

LAUREL, MARYLAND -- Two girls from Merry Maids came and cleaned the house. They did everything they were supposed to. They did a good job on my mirrors which I've never been able to get clean. They were very fast and thorough so I was perfectly pleased. When they got done, they asked me to look around to make sure they did everything that I wanted done or had to be done. I checked around and everything looked great. Then they left.

They're very easy to deal with and very pleasant. It's a worthwhile thing to have them, especially in my case where I couldn't get around doing things and my wife is not in the best health. It's great for them to come in and take care of things that I can't really do. Also, my schedule had to be postponed a couple of times because I had a knee operation and I couldn't get around and they were real congenial with me. They were more than accommodating because I was changing times and dates on them but they worked with me to get it set up.

READING, PENNSYLVANIA -- The people sent out by Merry Maids came in and cleaned, and everything looked great. Scheduling the service was very easy. They base it on when it's easiest for me to have them come, and they always call or send a text message to confirm and remind me of when they're coming. The cleaning people are very accommodating and friendly. They ask me where I want them to start and I don't have any issues with the cleanliness after they're done. It makes it easier for me because I come home when everything's clean. Overall, it has been convenient and easy.

FLEETWOOD, PENNSYLVANIA -- I just had service from Merry Maids yesterday. The girls were on time and did a good job. In general, they call me the day before they're coming and the day of the appointment to tell me the time range. I don't talk to the girls much while they're in the house cleaning, but they're very professional. If I have a question, they answer it. All in all, Merry Maids is reliable and dependable. They don't change their people much and the people that come in do their job. My experience has been very good and I would recommend them to anyone.

BROOKFIELD, WISCONSIN -- Scheduling service with Merry Maids was just a one-time thing and then I get my year's calendar on when they're coming. We signed up for the initial cleaning right before Christmas. Then we're doing twice a month after that. A girl, whom we knew from a church bowling league, came over last Monday. We had some heavy, slippery snow and she was still here nice and early. She came in, worked hard and did a nice job. She was really nice and we felt comfortable with her since we knew her.

I called a couple of times to find out when they were going to be around. When they come in, I introduce them to the dogs and find out their name if I haven't met them yet. Then I usually just take off and run errands and come back a couple of hours later and everything looks and smells good. They clean all the big and time-consuming stuff that is hard for me to do with having two young kids right now. They bring all their own stuff and clean up after themselves, too. We're very satisfied. I wouldn't have a problem recommending them.

BROOKFIELD, WISCONSIN -- I had a cleaning last week done by Merry Maids which is normally scheduled. It was done by my favorite cleaning person, Angela, and I was happy with it. They do a very nice job. I'm a clean person to begin with and I keep my place clean, so generally it's a good top cleaning. However, there have been a couple of times where I felt things weren't quite the way I wanted. I call and let them know and they generally take care of it right away, and that drives my confidence in their service. I've had them for many years now and overall, I've been really satisfied.
