After Numerous Failed Attempts To Replace A Fuel Pump My Car Broke Down 100 Miles From Home And I Had To Have The Fuel Pump Midas

DANBURY, CONNECTICUT -- On my way to work, my car breaks down about a block from the Danbury Connecticut Midas shop located on Main Street. So, I headed to work and I had the car towed to Midas. **, the manager, called me at the office and told me I had a faulty fuel pump. I had Midas replace it. It was replaced the same day. Great!

A few days later I went to get gas and the gas poured out from under the car. The next day, I returned the car to Midas and they repaired the problem the same day. This time they used the BMW original gasket. Great! I went to the gas station that night and gas poured out from under the car. We're talking about flooding the station with gas. Not just a trickle.

The next day I returned the car to Midas and ** promised they would test the tank for leaks before returning it to me. When I picked up the car **, the manager, told me that they had used a special resin to make the seal. (Concerned, I asked and was assured they had not just used silicon. It turned out that it was silicon.) I went for gas a few days later – no leaks. Great!

About a week later, I was on my way to work and as I was approaching the Midas shop, the engine shut down. I steered the car into the Midas driveway and left it. I got the car back that day. I was told that it was a faulty fuel relay switch and they repaired it at no charge. Great!

That Saturday, I headed South on the New Jersey Turnpike with my 14-year old son to visit family. Around exit 12 (about 100 miles from home) the engine shut down and I had to have the car towed to a Pep Boys. (Pep Boys was right off the exit and the only place open the day before Easter.) The next day Pep Boys called me - I had a bad fuel pump, there was silicon around the gasket, and the electrical harness to the fuel pump had been cut and repaired with electrical tape. (PLEASE SEE MY “YELP” COMMENTS ON THE NEW JERSEY CARTERET PEP BOYS FOR THAT FIASCO.)

I borrowed my nephew's truck and returned to Connecticut. I stopped in at Midas the next day to tell ** what had happened and that I expected Midas to reimburse me for the new repair and the towing cost. ** told me that he had to call Pep Boys and that he wanted to see the faulty fuel pump.

A week later, when I was able to pick up my repaired car, I brought the failed fuel pump and copies of my bills into **. He told me he had to send the pump to Midas for testing and I would hear back from them in about a week. My expectations are very low. Tomorrow, Friday, May 9th will be a week. Check back to learn the outcome. Needless to say, I will never go back to Midas. You can make your own decisions/mistakes.

Damaged my car while performing an oil change

SYRACUSE/CAMILLUS, NEW YORK -- Midas in camillus damaged my vehicle while performing an oil change. I had yellow paint and huge sratches on my car... when I brought the store manager Dennis's attention he made jokes and belittled to the situation talking about yellow balloons are the only thing in his shop ... I pointed out that they have yellow lifts in their shop and the yellow balloons are not the only thing yellow and they're shop ..I got customer service involved and was put in contact with the district general manager rich who had me talk to the assistant store manager Josh. after showing my vehicle to Josh he agreed that he would fix it and would talk to Rich in regards to getting my car repaired at a shop they use and having Midas take care of the invoice 100%. for two weeks they stated they were going to pay for my vehicle per Josh who I was told the district manager and Josh were communicating the whole entire time. once Midas got the invoice the story changed and they would not take any ownership of the damages. my damages were $800 (per their repair shop who was also told when the appointment was made by Midas they were covering the invoice at 100 percent) and Midas stated they would not cover any of the damages. I expressed to the general manager rich that Josh informed me that Midas would cover the bill. Rich informed me that is not what he was being told by Josh. I was told by Rich that he would cover 50% of the bill and I need to be grateful for that and they're only giving me 50% because I am a loyal customer for over 10 years. I have no proof that this happened at their shop because I do not have footage of the incident that happened. the district general manager was arrogant and rude.. the store manager Dennis I feel treated me differently because I'm a woman talking about balloons and the assistant store manager Josh lied to my face for two weeks and called me during those two weeks telling me that Midas would pick up the bill and had me do all this running around making phone calls when realistically they were NOT going to cover it at all. People should be aware of what this Midas shop is doing and if they damage your vehicle they should own up to it. my car had no damage coming into the shop. My car was band NEW!. I asked if they can check their cameras a when my vehicle went into their shop the answer that I got was completely different then what they told corporate. they did the damage while the car was in their possession.. do not take your car here because if they damage your car in any way and they will not take any ownership of it!!

TOTAL SCAM

EL PASEO, CALIFORNIA -- I was quoted one price to replace my brakes and when I got there they went from the quoted price of $190.00 to $290. I told him I was not willing to pay this and wanted to leave. The manager, Sean said he would give me the brakes for $190.00. He then insisted I needed a new radiator, my oil changed and rotaries so my $190.00 quote to replace my brakes is now up into the thousands. I told him I could not afford that and to just do the brakes. I also told him I had a coupon, this was a groupon I paid $90.00 and the rest of the cost was covered by the coupon. Sean became extremely combative disrespectful and rude. he said “what's your problem, you don't have any money ?” I said I came here to get my brakes replaced because I had a coupon and that's all I can afford at this time. I work full-time and I am a college student so I am on a budget. Sean then started telling me that if I did not get my rotors replaced that I could be driving down the freeway and not have breaks and kill someone. I asked how this was possible because I was getting new breaks and Sean became more combative and verbally abusive.
I reminded him that the number gave me on my rotors were within the legal range to drive . He was being such a bully and calling me names that I began to cry. I just wanted my car back. the brakes were replaced but when I went to give Sean my coupon to cover for the repairs Sean refused to accept my coupon and charge me full price. Sean was a bully and he scammed me. I went there simply because I had a coupon that I paid $90 for and it would cover the cost of my brakes which in the end Sean refuse to accept and charge me full price. At the very beginning of our conversations I told him I had a coupon so I had to stay within the range or what if you can get allow me to spend. If Sean was going to refuse my coupon he should have told me BEFORE the service was done on the brakes so I could have taken my business someplace else. A coupon cost me $90 plus $190 for my brakes so I ended up paying $280 for brakes that should have only cost me $90 I paid for the coupon. I plan on taking legal action because this was a scam. I would never take my car here again.

Failed Pressure Test Leads to SCAM

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS -- I recently bought a 2001 Saturn LS. As I was driving around, the coolant reservoir started boiling over. As it is HOT HOT HOT in San Antonio, and I was in Stop & go traffic, I kind of expected this. But the needle on the temp gauge never went above 1/4. So, I took the car into the Midas on Nacodoches Rd. I told them I wanted an oil change, a diagnosis on the Service engine light, and figure out what was going on with it heating up.

They did the oil change first. Good. But they never put up a new sticker in the window. Then, they did a pressure test on the coolant overflow reservoir. They called me into the bay and told me that the coolant was coming out yellow and that that meant that the coolant was leaking into the block. This of course meant that I would have to replace the engine. They offered to do it for about $1500.

HELLO!!! I just told them that I put in a gallon of anti-freeze. The anti-freeze I used was the new kind that can be used for any vehicle, is pre-diluted, and is GOLDEN YELLOW!!! The mechanic said that he could do a breakdown on the engine to see if I had bent valves, but that would cost about $500 whether the valves were bent or not. I told him that for that kind of money, I would have to think about it. I paid my $177 bill and went to get in my car. Before I left, another mechanic came up to me and said that with all the problems the car had, he could take it off me for $50.

REALLY!?!?! $50 for a car. I couldn't be more insulted if the guy had spit in my face. After I drove off, it occurred to me that they never said anything about the codes for the Service Engine light. I feel SOOOO ripped off. I understand that you can't blame the whole company for the actions of a single franchise, but I keep hearing complaints about Midas. I don't think I will EVER trust ANY Midas again. Sorry for the guys that are honest, but the actions of the crooked speak louder than the words of the honest.

Fraudulent Estimate/ Tried to Talk Me Into $500 of Work That Wasn't Necessary!

TOLEDO, OHIO -- I bought a used truck and the owner admitted to me that it needed the brakes bled. I took it to Midas on Alexis Road, where I waited for several hours, only to be told they couldn't remove the old, rusty parts to get to the area to bleed the brakes, and that it all needed replaced. The wheel cylinders too, despite the fact it wasn't leaking. The truck had a new brake line, also. My son's Xbox friend told us otherwise, told us that we shouldn't need a wheel cylinder replaced if it's not leaking, and that he was sure the brakes could be bled without all new parts.

At Midas, after the employee got done with all his bologna he told my son, my son told him we didn't have the money for it all, that if we did, we would have to cancel a very, very important upcoming trip. He then replied, "Well, can't you just put it on a credit card or something?" That was his exact words! Like it was no big deal we were about to get ripped off, just pay later!

My son explained we didn't have one. We went to Monro Brakes and Tires, also on Alexis Road, in Toledo, the next week. They agreed it didn't need new wheel cylinders or new parts. They got the brakes bled and even made a few extra adjustments for $80~. My brakes are like new and I'm one happy customer! I will NEVER take a vehicle to Midas again!

Unsafe Inspection

RUTLAND, VERMONT -- We brought our Nissan Rogue to the Midas in Rutland VT for a state inspection and it passed with no problem. I specifically asked if the brakes were good because I thought it was starting to make a noise. I do not know much about cars so I depend on the knowledge of an honest mechanic. He assured me that the breaks were fine at 82% so I went home.

Three weeks later it started making a harsh metal on metal sound so we made an appointment and brought it back. We were told we need all new brakes and new rear rotors. There is no way we wore down 82% of our brakes down to the rotors in just three weeks. This brings me to the conclusion that nobody ever looked at our brakes. This is the most unsafe inspection you can get. When we showed them the paperwork from the inspection they refused to take responsibility.

ENGLEWOOD, OHIO -- Met with manager. Agreed to buy new tires for my work dually. Paid $1600. Tires started falling apart. Went back in to see what manager had to say. He told me that it was a shock/tire rod issue. Scheduled more time off of work and went to 2 separate mechanics shops. Was told that they sold me tires that are not rated for my truck.

I made an online complaint and was called by the district manager to schedule an appointment to make things right. Took another day off work. Arrived at 7:15 for a 7:30 confirmed appointment. No show so I called at 7:45 to hear a district manager tell me that he FORGOT my appt and not understand why I would be upset. Told me to sue them. So that's where I'm at. Will be taking them to court.

ST. PETERS, MISSOURI -- 336 Mid Rivers Mall Drive
St. Peters, MO 63376
The shop manager was not honest when making a repair suggestion. I took my car in for inspections and he said that it needed a new flex-pipe. After replacing the flex-pipe, it vibrated very noisy. The new flexpipe looks way smaller than the old one. I asked him to weld on a bigger pipe and he did it reluctantly. The new one still vibrated loudly. He then said that I have to replace the whole front pipe assembly which includes the catalytic converter. The cost would be $700. He charged $170 for the crappy flexpipe that cost less than $20. Had he told me that I need to replace the whole front pipe assembly, I'd do it myself. This manager is not honest to his customer. He never contacted me after the service date to resolve the issue. I will not bring my car to this location ever again.

Terrible Customer Service

AURORA, COLORADO -- Steve, the Midas manager at Buckley and Iliff in Aurora, CO 80013, refused to honor the so-called Midas guarantee on a battery they installed last year. The aforementioned battery would not start my car on October 2 of this year. I took it to the same Midas dealer and Steve told me it was fine. But probably wouldn't work when it was cold - their words, not mine. By the way, I live in Colorado, so cold is a no-brainer this time of year. I asked for a prorated price on a replacement battery.

But, since the electrical issue (in-car alarm system), which they said was fine after they charged me for an electrical diagnostic at the same time they installed the new battery was the issue, they refused to prorate the battery. In fact, Steve even told me it was "my problem, not his". Also he said "we don't do electrical" which puzzles me since they offer a ridiculous price to run an electrical diagnostic. Bottom line, they left my car running after they had to re-charge the battery when I came to pick up the car. Hence, his assurance that the battery was fine and ready to go was also bogus.

Frustratingly, I was obliged to close the hood and drive it out between other misbegotten vehicles instead of them bringing it up front - as Midas has always done for me (from Colorado to California) for the past ten years - he had the gall to wish me a nice day. I've noticed that Midas changes out their managers approximately every 6 months, sort of like the churches change out child-molesting preachers/priests to avoid bad press. I'm not going back to Midas and I hope you don't buy into their service "guarantee" as well.

THE COLONY, TEXAS -- I bought new tires. After 10 days 2 of them got flat and I went to Midas to change them, there is no way that I buy a tires and after 10 days I should change them. I've called to the customer service. They kept telling me I had to buy warranty, it's unacceptable for me because I bought my tires 10 days ago. How it would happened to 2 of my tires there is something wrong with tires not me. They just sold bad tires and they try to hide it and make money of me. I did paid for new tires 217.00$ and 10 days before that I bought 4 tires 499.00$!!!
