Midas Will Screw Over Its Most Loyal Customers With No Remorse
By -

NEW LONDON, CONNECTICUT -- Midas will screw you over with no remorse. With the price of life in this harsh and unforgiving economy, this particular business place is taking advantage of its most loyal customers. Anyway this is my story, I brought my truck to Midas in New London to check a noise from the front wheels, it turned out it was a broken spring, they charged me over $900. I took the car to work and the noise was back, on my way back from work everything started to fall apart, screws and nuts were being dropped on the road and smoke started coming out of my passenger side wheel, my hubcap melted and fell off, the stirring wheel kept locking on me and I could barely brake.

Somehow in the grace of God I managed to make it to town between putting the gear on neutral going downhill and releasing the gas to slow down. I drove the truck straight to the Midas shop and the next day dropped by to state my case. They decided that they would not fix my truck and that I would have to pay another $900. After two days of going back and forth with these people I finally got a hold of their general manager Carlos ** and he decided that even though the problems seem related they were not the same.

He finally concluded that he would do the work with a discounted labor but I would still have to pay for the parts. I called AutoZone, I went online and also called Ford Parts and their prices were less than half the prices Midas is asking me for the new parts. The general public should be informed not to go to Midas because they will scam you and screw you over with no shame! My friend's neighbor, one of Midas' previous technician admitted that they always double their parts prices!

Midas Price Gouging

FRANKFORT, KENTUCKY -- This is one way of warning people about a company (MIDAS). I had to have an alternator replace on my car today and I went to Midas. They had to get one from Advance auto parts and they told me it would be $413.26. Well I told them to go ahead. I had to have a car. My oldest granddaughter came and picked me up. She threw a fit. She said alternators were not that high and she called Advance to see how much they charged Midas for the part.

Get this, Midas only paid 119.95 for the part. When I went to pay the bill the labor was only $39.98 the part cost was $329.95 supply charge (whatever that was) was $22.20 tax was $21.13. I told the tech guy that I was letting anyone that would listen about their business. If you can help it I wouldn't go to Midas unless you got money to give away.

Their Oil Change Killed My Engine

ENFIELD, CONNECTICUT -- *************
Note to Approver: Also found this review in http://www.yelp.com/biz/midas-enfield
**********
I got my Oil Change on 5/19/2010 at MIDAS, the Enfield location. Then on 5/20 morning when I'm driving to work, the engine stops working the car stops on the Highway I91-N. I tow the car and take it to Firestone. They say that there is not Oil Filter, oil leaked and locked the motor and now the motor needs to be replaced.

I spoke to the owner of the store - Jack **. He refused to take any responsibility and started swearing. I have the bill which clearly states that the Oil Filter was replaced. I didn't even drive the car for over 40 miles since the oil change and my motor died.

Tampered With My Vehicle

RANDOLPH, NEW JERSEY -- Dropped off my vehicle at the Midas in Randolph, NJ to have it aligned. Went back to pick it up and said that additional work needed to be done including replacement of the wheel bearing to the tune of $1,200. Midas person even showed me where the problem was. He said that the car was not safe to drive until the work was done. Was very skeptical. Took the car home and noticed the car was shakier than before.

Had another mechanic check it and said that the wheel axle nut was retracted and loosened making the wheel unstable and unsafe to drive. Can't believe that Midas would go to extra lengths of tampering with my car just to make $$$. These people cannot be trusted.

They Burnt My Engine

MURRAY, UTAH -- I got my Honda Civic serviced by Midas this Saturday. It was a basic maintenance service which includes oil/lube change, air/oil filter change, tire rotation check, visual brake check and some courtesy checks. Within 24 hrs. and less than 20 miles on my odometer after the service, the car broke down on Sunday. I got it towed to Firestone. They charged me $115 and diagnosed that the engine is failed because of no oil. Midas people forgot to put the oil or oil got drained.

After lots of arguments Midas has taken the responsibility but replacing my original 57K miles run engine with a re-manufactured engine. They will provide warranty for parts and labor for 1 yr or 12K miles but within Salt Lake city.
I want a brand new engine at original Honda dealer because I have lost trust in Midas. But Midas is not listening even after escalating this issue at the corporate headquarters. They haven't even provided me the rental car. Please tell me what to do?

Details about the garage where service was performed: Midas 6180 S State St. Murray UT 84107. Franchise owner at Salt Lake city is least bothered about Midas brand name and not willing to listen. Invoice no. is ** and estimate # is ** and it was performed on 14th Jan, 2006 at 2:27 pm. Please tell me what are my consumer rights and what I can do? Resale value of my car is coming down like anything.

FORESTVILLE, MARYLAND -- I went to the MIDAS located at 5717 Silver Hill Rd, Forestville, MD for an oil change. My info was already in the system because I had been there before for service on my previous car. The worker that was assisting me asked me the normal questions about my new car (model, year, etc) which is a 2013 Chevy Sonic. As he was typing on the computer, he said out loud to himself, "what in the world?", then asked me if my car was a diesel. I said "no" and then he asked me which car was mine. I pointed outside to my car and he went outside and looked at my car.

He came back in and told me for my car an oil change was going to be $86. He told me that because of the type of synthetic oil blend recommended by the manufacturer needed for car, that was why the price was so high. Of course I did not get the oil change because I thought the price was outrageous and I'm sure that $86 did not include other fees (labor, taxes, disposal of old oil, etc). I went to the Chevy dealership I purchased my car from and got not only an oil change but a tire rotation, multi point inspection, and my car was washed for $53.35.

If I would have let Midas do the oil change. I would have got just that an "oil change" and ended up paying probably $100+. I WILL NOT GO BACK TO THE MIDAS OR ANY OTHER LOCATION.

Midas Charged Me for Parts They Did Not Replace.

WICHITA, KANSAS -- My car had overheated due to coolant leaking out because a coupler for the upper radiator hose had broken. I took the car to Midas, explained the problem to the guy at the counter who seemed only mildly interested. I had them look the car over and they agreed that the radiator hoses needed to be changed along with some other work. I got all the work done to the tune of 1300 dollars. 2 days later I'm taking my girlfriend to work when the car starts to overheat. Lo and behold if the hose in question isn't rigged up just like me and buddy had rigged in order to get the car to Midas.

There is no way they changed that hose!!! I may not be explaining this right but the way the thing is broken, anyone that would have tried to change that hose would have noticed the broken coupler upon trying to connect it on that end. Which makes me wonder what else did they charge me for and not do?

COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA -- Midas told me the tension belt was "off" and needed to be replaced for $420, and that I needed a new water pump, that anti-freeze was leaking onto the belt for $380. I called another mechanic to get a second opinion and he told me he could do all that for $300. When I called Midas back to tell them not to do anything to my car, they said they had already "torn it apart" and would cost $280 to put it back together without fixing anything. As you can imagine, I was beyond angry. I will never go back to Midas again.

Midas Touch Broke My Door Handle!

WEST PALM BEACH AND LAKE WORTH, FLORIDA -- I took my vehicle in for an inspection regarding the engine. I was not able to get out of my car when I arrived home because my door handle was broken. I know that it was not broken and was working well when I handed them my keys. What's upsetting is that they pretended like nothing happened and did not even mention it when they handed me my key.

I called and talked to the store manager Matt at the West Palm Beach location (and later with another Matt – Lake Worth location manager). It took them a week to find the part and when they finally did, they wanted to charge me for labor! I am very upset for the fact that I was expected to pay for something that "Midas touch" broke. This is definitely not the type of service that I appreciate. I have never been a Midas customer before and never will be again!

Absolutely Horrible

FAYETTEVILLE, GEORGIA -- I took my Forerunner in for front struts to only find out that the service team lied! They could not fix my truck but were blatant about saying that they could. After dropping it off at the opening of the day, it sat in the parking lot without anyone even looking at it.

Absolutely amazing that I had to call them about six hours Yes six hours later to say "are you all completed?" The response was "we thought we had the correct parts." But my question then was when was someone going to call me the customer? Then the manager proceeded to say "we had no numbers for you," really? You quoted my number from the computer that particular morning.

Needless to say, I will never return to that place again. I actually should have listened to residents in the city who stated "service is horrible there! Don't listen to their price quotes. It is a hoax." I sure learned my lesson. One simple call within the hour and I could have taken it somewhere else... absolutely horrible. I sure hope all Midas are not that way. If so, beware!
